My maternal grandmother made quilts from fabric of clothing that weren't worn anymore & always told a story. So glad to see people are still quilting. Grandma stitched every single piece of fabric. Lots of love goes into making these memories.

That's interesting.....I'm sure there was a story in the clothing. I love that! I've seen quilts made as high school graduation gifts...and the quilts are made from the kids' old tshirts. It represents all of the great things that student was involved in, loved, enjoyed and represented during their school years.

My mother is one of the very first members of the AQS Society (I actually think she is member 001). She spoke with the Schroeders quite often as the AQS was formed and was very active in the early years of the show. She loves quilting and the bond quilters share. As a native Paducah resident (as am I) she is pleased with the love the quilters have shown our beautiful river town all these years ❤️.

Do not know how I missed this video. I am heartbroken that I did not know about this Quilters heaven. In Florida many of the original quilters stores started closing many years ago. I only used the best material, threads etc. for my quilting. I hand quilted only. I have made 50 quilts or more that aren’t put together yet. That was my piece of heaven on earth. Rheumatoid arthritis has stopped my quilting but still love it. I hope to be able to make it there next year to see how things have changed. I loved the old fashioned patterns and making material choices that are definitely girly. My favorite are my Christmas quilts and the holidays. Thank you for the info and renewing my excitement. Who knows at my old age I may buy a new machine and learn to machine quilt. Renee was that your ice cream store. Would have loved to go inside. Thank you for making my day.

I love quilts...they are like "works of art". My Grammy-in-law used to quilt...even into her 90's...but, had to eventually stop, because her eye sight was starting to effect her. But, we all got beautiful quilts when we got married. She asked us what colour we wanted & made custom-made wedding gifts for us. I treasure my quilt to this day...& it reminds me of her. A much treasured item of mine. 👍😊👏😍 Thank you for sharing this video with us. 👍🇨🇦😊 I would love to visit Paducah one day...👍😊

So awesome! We here in Oshkosh have the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) annually that brings between 200,000 and 300,000 individuals attending the event. The large number of aircraft arrivals and departures during the fly-in week makes the Wittman Field FAA control tower the busiest in the world for that week. It really boosts our city financially and the members fly in from all over the world.
I am not a quilter but I LOVE the art of it! I've seen so many beautiful designs and they always remind me of my grandparents and my mom who quilted in their life time. Thanks for sharing this spectacular event...I never knew Paducah was known for being Quilt City USA! So cool!

This makes me wish I was a quilter! I have no creative bones in my body (math I can do, creativity--not so much), so I really admire not only the sewing skill of the quilters, but their creativity as well. I don't sew very well--I think I'm too impatient and get really frustrated if I make a mistake and have to take things apart and start over. And goodness knows I make a lot of mistakes when I try to sew. And I think you would be an outstanding ambassador for Paducah! My Grandma made quilts, rugs on a loom and knitted. I do not do any of these. She passed a long time ago when I was a teenager. Back then I had no interest. Now I do but don’t have time. My Grandma’s knowledge of these handcrafted items passed with her as none of her grandchildren had an interest.

It will be a family heirloom for many years to come. I greatly appreciate the many hours that the ladies put into making my quilt.

Wish I was able to come there to your town, and see some of the quilting that goes on, I’m a bit of a new beginner of quilting. My husband wanted to help me with quilting when I first started as he likes messing around with machines. He’s a machinist by being taught there learning about an up coming job he was about to learn back years ago when we were first married. He’s since quit helping me, and wants no part of it which is fine, he has others things to do. I’m disabled with a lower pinched nerve in my back that no Dr wants to help me with. So..I can’t sew much of the time, so..I plan to put my husband back to work helping me, as I do what I can for us and our grown son who lives and helps us out a lot. Hopefully all will be happy.

I quilted for years but never made it to Paducah. I ordered from Hancocks for years because I could buy bolts of quilt backing and batting for a great price. This was before online shopping was available and I would order from the mail order catalogue. The quilted name tag pins are made in local quilting bees. Sometimes all the members use the same pattern, other times they are very unique.

Enjoyed your video. My husband and I were in Paducah last year we kept getting lost trying to get back to our hotel near the interstate. I was so glad that you said that you’ve been living there 50 years and you still get confused with the one-way streets. L O L made us feel a lot better. I thought maybe we were just crazy Cajuns from Louisiana. We also went by your ice cream shop and got to visit with you, it was a great experience and we love your town, it’s so quaint downtown.

Thanks for taking us to Paducah. I absolutely love the arts district. I miss Whaler's Catch. That was my favorite place to eat. Ohhh I didn't know they had a trolley system! Very cool. I also love to visit during BBQ fest but it's always sooo incredibly hot that weekend.
Hancocks is an iconic institution. I remember getting 2" fabric samples in the mail from Hancock when I was 13-14 years old.
I really am not a fan of diamond intersections and round a bouts. Have the finished the 60/24 interchange? I've been avoiding Paducah because of the road construction. Creative Blessings!

"We Quilt This City" I love it!
That's amazing. I'm just learning how to cross stitch while on vacation and it takes a lot of patience and practice. Definitely not ready for quilting. 😂

Interesting video, and such a gracious welcome to Paducah! Thank you! Just as an aside, when I’ve attended fabric or fiber conventions in the past, we would wear matching outfits or identifying bits and bobs so we could find each other if anyone wanted to split up or if we wandered off from the group. It makes it much easier to find each other again in a big, busy convention center or at a designated meeting place off the grounds. ☺️

Great video. I’m going to visit someday Paducah someday. The only down side I saw here was shopping at Hancocks. I’m sure with the amount of shoppers in there, other people would have the fabric I want in their cart. 😂

Hi Betty! Purple Toad Winery is in Paducah on Old Highway 45 (in the Lone Oak area). And actually, they make my favorite wine! I love the flavor Black Current which is strong with blackberries. Yum! You can go there for a wine tasting and sample 10-15 different flavors. Randy and I did that for his birthday last year and that's how I discovered my favorite 💗
