That innate sense of interpretation comes right along even with these lighter songs she so enjoyed singing! Enjoyed singing? YES! You can hear the pure joy in her spirit as she colours the canvas of this song with ALL that is within her in her God-given gift. Rest in peace dear Ms Sills, we miss you.
I had this album in high school and it is great to discover some of its highlights here. I like your comment -- it is rare to have someone speak of joy in the context of performance.
And Victor Herbert bowed his head in acknowledgement that his song had finanlly been sung to supreme perfection at last by Beverly Sills. Thank you LaMarAzura, you really make watcing your uploads such a pleasure!
This was magnificent - my favourite soprano by far. For a great version of this by a male artist check out the one by Jan Peerce on his 'Voice of Firestone' performance in Jan 1950. The quality and consistency of his tone is incredible.
VanDerick got it right in his second posting here: "If I could tell you" by Isabelle Firestone was the opening song on "The Voice of Firestone." I can't recall the closing piece, but it was another song written by Mrs. Firestone. By the way, RUclips has a splendid rendition of "If I could tell you" by soprano Eleanor Steber, who appeared numerous times on the Voice. Google the title of the song and you'll find her.
@rogharm I read an article long ago in regard of how Ms Sills came to US when she was a child....on board a ship hiding in a big wooden barell made for pickle/wine? I can't recall. My belieif of her true birth year is based on that story and other sources.
@bilmar1966 Hi, As much as I am a greatest admirer of Sills... I have no illintention to make her older or any other but to be in true fact if possible. If I recall corectly it was an interview article with Ms Sills in a magazine in late 80sor early 90s.
@VanDerick Try "opening song." The featured singer on the Voice of Firestone would open the program with "If I could tell you." Check out Thomas L. Thomas and Rise Stevens on RUclips for their singing "If I Could Tell You" to open a program.

Untouchable Beverly Sills! Stunning rendition !
The quintessential Victor Herbert primadona!

Beverly Sills has the voice of an Angel. Bet she's entertaining them up above. So beautiful!
A glorious voice to listen to again and again- Graham- Aus

Such incredibly high standards in these non-operatic songs which need an opera singer of this calibre!

I den här vackra sången känner åtminstone jag Victor Herberts Irländska bakgrund.Han är en av mina favoriter vad gäller populärmusik.
@LaMarAzura You post an interesting story; however, Belle Silverman, aka Beverly Sills, was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1929. American all the way!
@VanDerick Believe me, a Voice of Firestone enthusiast from the 1930's, Ms. Firestone's 'If I could tell you' was the opening number for each show.
@VanDerick Thanks !!! for the confirmation.
@rogharm I just have a comment by VanDerik below confirming that this is the closing song on the 'voice of firestone.
