- Stoicism has seen a resurgence in the last few years, thanks to people like Ryan Holiday and his Daily Stoic Podcast. In this video we will take a look at the four pillars of Stoicism and look at the similarities to Buddhism, Taoism, and even Christianity.

Thank you for watching and ride safe! --Craig Ripley
Once again - words of wisdom! I have lived my life this way ever since I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 14 years old, and I'm still here 44 years later.
Thank you Craig for that mental wake up call. We are leaving in 4 days to do Route 66 and this was very timely.
Thank you, is sometimes a way of saying, wow I am not the only one. So Thank you Sir, for I have been a subscriber of yours and look forward to these type videos the most. but this one, wow I’m not the only one. Your spiritual journey as you described is almost to the T, the exact same place I am at. I believe all religion stripped of man’s interpretation of God are saying the same thing. I think they got stuck in not knowing the difference between, I made you in my image , and the human condition, humans retired the favor and made God in their image. I so loved when you bring stoic philosophy and so how many religions and Stoic thought are really all saying the same thing.
Moto + Stoicism...Beautiful. Never despair, many of Marcus Aurelius' meditations were regarding his own shortcomings from his stoic ideals. Oh, and FWIW, those who have contempt for simplicity, are usually those who are making money from complicating things.
Excellent! Thanks for presenting this topic. These can all be followed easily, and simply. I am amazed when look back at the ways I used to think, and what I just followed blindly. By simply stepping away from what was binding my thoughts and putting me in a box, I can now live more peacefully. I have a riding buddy who likes to speed through the ride and pass anything that gets in front of us. I usually just chill and wait for the vehicle in front to do something different, most of the time they are turning on a different road, and sometimes they eventually pull over and let us pass. I just tell my buddy over the comm I’lll catch up if he can’t wait. What a relief to actually ride my own ride, or just hit the road myself with no attachments what so ever!
I’ve been interested in Stoicism for some time now. As a result, I’m a very much calmer person.
I never let other people’s actions bother me now, that I can’t affect.
Once again, your approach and insight to life in general is invaluable. Keep up the great work and Thank You for sharing your thoughts! 👍🏼✌🏼
A very enjoyable video mate ,, many wise words and thoughts , as retired expat veteran now in the Philippines , Away from the worlds drama and stupidity, Ride safe always mate
I really appreciate this video.
What you say may be true, but I'm still buying the air horn!
Thx Craig! Safe travels to Alaska! Don't harm any of those nice mosquito's while you are up there you stoic ! Good stuff. I have been going to Chiropractor's since about 12, when I got good at running into tree's on my XR 75 !! It has always helped me. I have been fortunate to have had some really good DC's !
Excellent Craig. Wisdom comes from experience. As I discuss difficult subjects with my kids, I ask, “and was that heated argument with your partner worth it?, did either of you change the world or an outcome by picking a side & arguing about it?” In the end we’re only responsible for our own choices, thoughts and reactions. Stoicism is a great teacher and for some a good tool for learning and understanding certain things.
Thank you, as usual very thoughtful and wise. Enjoyed your clip with my morning coffee, much appreciated 🙏
While commuting to work on my bike (about 1 hour) I listen to podcasts about stoicism, Buddhism, and Taoism. Like you, I take all the good things from each philosophy. I still get upset at times with stupid drivers but it is getting less everyday.
I get upset too on occasion. We are human. It is not about being perfect, but recognizing when it happens and making corrections.
Well said
Great road and tough ride long ride safe Alain & Yellow
👏👏👏👏🏍 Great video
Thank you, Craig. Inspirational and wise. After listening to your narration and reading your quotes, and reflecting on my own values, I guess I’m a stoic and don’t knowit.
…. and even after all these years, I still have Bronson in my head whenever I light out on a motorcycle trip
Thanks for sharing your wisdom. Appreciated more than you know!
Yes! Great vid. Nice transition to this great content
Thanks so much Craig. I'm glad to be a subscriber to your channel and appreciate your thoughts on life as you ride.
Ryan is a gateway to stoicism.
Thanks once again! Good inspiration for another rainy day… that I don’t like to come
You are the model of how I'd like to create RUclips videos. Excellent.
As ever, thank you, Craig 🙏
Thank you
Go your own way

@@LivingOffTheSlab Thanks Brother!
Do you lift on your trips?
Sometimes, if the hotel has a gym. Other times, I just let myself have a break.
My opinion is that all philosophies are overly complex and convoluted, especially religious philosophies. There is an ultimate Truth underlying all, this is all there is... The rest is just semantics.
I agree... though I think there are things to learn by studying and distilling the various philosophies down to concepts that resonate with you... but yea I think they also tend to be very susceptible to naval gazing especially as they are practiced by human beings with all our many failings.
My human frailty leans toward the "oppositional disorder" side of things... and so if I had a guiding philosophy it would be along the lines of "fuck your box". I see no value in dogmatic anything, but I do see value in the principles that Craig very nicely pointed out are common to them all.
Interestingly, a flock of obnoxiously loud H-D's just rode by my house, and I think about how stoicism is something that the Harley crowd seems to hold up as a pillar of thought for themselves. Is it irony and they think of themselves as stoic (most stoics would not actively join a crowd so they could all scream "look at me" as they march around town) or is just that we tend to value the traits we lack.
@@kuhndj67 Well "Stoic" has that tough edge to it, kind of goes along with that hard-ass, puss some HD riders feel they have to ride around with.... Jeez, you might not think they we're enjoying themselves .... 🤣
I'm done. Tired of the foul mouth. And for those who don't see a problem with it, you're part of the country's moral decline.
