So, you've probably heard a bunch of reviewers teasing Samsung about the Galaxy Watch Ultra calling it a copy of the Apple Watch Ultra. Samsung might have taken some design inspiration from other watches for the Galaxy Watch Ultra including Apple's. But to say it's a blatant copy is, frankly, ignorant and ridiculous. Here's why.

The only thing Apple really has going for them is optimization and their ecosystem. Other than that, there isn't really anything that's particularly interesting about them.
Or get sued and remove a feature/watch from being sold.
That optimization and lag-free experience is why that watch is still better overall.

On a "color circle" orange is the "complementary color" or "opposite color" to blue. They sit opposed to each other in the world of colors. Orange and Blue are, Green and Red are, etc. You can look it up. What that means is that if you put those "complementary colors" next to each other, they have the biggest contrast, and are instantly noticeable. That's why you have Green and Red traffic lights for example...and also why you would have an Orange armband on a watch when swimming in a Blue body of water (ocean, sea, pool, etc.). Why do you think lifebuoy's are Orange, or life rafts are Orange, or lifeguard floats are Orange. It's to have the maximum contrast to open water (which is usually Blue).
So having said that, "style" is actually secondary, and it's irrelevant "who copied who". There is a clear primary purpose for the color choice, and all companies can use it.

I pre-ordered mine, $400 in discounts/trade in. I cannot wait to get mine. Personally I like the orange band just for when I go on a bicycle ride, 48 miles total, it's very visible. My current watch though, OnePlus Watch 2 is not as loud (or the Classic 6 I had) as the Classic 6 and the Classic 6 was not loud compared to when I had the apple watch ultra, the vibration and how loud it was, made it so that I never miss a notification. Judging by the size and speakers on the Galaxy Ultra, I'm sure this is the right choice for me, and I'm glad the battery could last up to 100 hours.
I pre ordered the watch and whenever I go to see a review or an umboxing I read people saying it's a copy of the apple watch. It's ridiculous, thank you for making the video since I'm fed up lol.

My comment for any Galaxy Watch Ultra: For those who are saying that the Galaxy Watch Ultra is a copy of Apple's Watch Ultra, search the Samsung Gear Sport. It looks exactly like that. If anything, it looks more like a Panerai Radiomir. The orange band, the button and titanium are from Garmin, but the button being orang is from Apple, though.
Still doesn't change the fact, all smart watches suck, except Garmin and polar.
Some dive watches use orange button.

I totally agree with your main points. I brought up the same ones in posts on various forums, Hermès and Apple were later iterations. Not that Apple's looks are much to emulate. What is worthwhile about the Apple Ultra is the scuba dive capability down to 40 meters, which the Samsung doesn't sport. It just has the static 10 ATM rating. Hopefully Samsung's BioActive sensor and GPS will bring up the accuracy and precision on this generation of watches. Finally, leaving out the killer, signature Samsung feature from the Gear Sport, the turning bezel, is a mistake, at least in cold climates where gloves have to be removed for the UX unless relying totally on voice interaction.
This video explains very well all the well consideration of Apple Watch Ultra and it’s so complete that nothing can be improved from Apple Watch Ultra, that’s why Samsung is using most of the features and design of it.

Exactly. I pre ordered the ultra with a dark grey fabric band. I personally hate the orange band so my watch won't look anything like the apple watch. The watch doesn't look like it anyways. People are just so stupid. 😅

The difference between Apple and Samsung is that Apple did not add the action button to look like a Fossil watch, but Samsung added the button, the colors, the crown and basically created this watch to be as similar as the Apple Watch Ultra. To associate with the image that Apple created for this subcategory of products. There are options and solutions if you want to differentiate yourself, but here Samsung wanted the opposite. In my case this is way I defend Apple, they always tried to be different and feel different.

It's not the way the case looks, it's the orange dial and the straps. Not saying who copies who, but both Apple and Samsung now have similar designs and that sucks because it's just less unique. They also went with a much closer Apple-like earbuds this generation too. Kind of lame. I liked the no stem earbuds they were doing.

Nobody is saying that the GWU is an exact rip-off of the AWU but there are SOME things that took clear and obvious inspiration.
E.g.
- The Ocean band and Trail band look veeeeeery similar to Apples Ocean and Trail bands and even sport the SAME NAME
- The Action Button... I mean "Quick Button" that performs "Actions" I'm not even making this up that's what they call it in the settings AND when you click the button, the whole screen goes orange with the name of the action that you have set, exactly the same UI as the AWU. Coincidence? I think not.
- The 85db siren. Same feature, same way of activating it (by holding the Action, I mean, Quick Button) and again an almost identical UI as the AWU when using the siren.
- The new sensors on the back look almost identical to Apples. Apple has been making some of the most accurate sensors in watches for a number of years meanwhile Samsungs have been terribly inaccurate (Watch the Quantified Scientist for evidence) so it seems that Samsung basically reverse engineered Apples and slapped it on the back of their watch.
- The orange accents. Nobody OWNS orange I know but the Apple Watch Ultra had orange well and truly built into the design. Not just the orange watch strap but also the orange action button, the orange ring around the digital crown and even the orange background that shows up when you click the action button. Apple doesn't own orange I know but the fact that Samsung just did the exact same, even down to the orange background when you click the action button is just.....c'mon.
Now to be clear I like that Samsung made this watch because it pushes the industry to continue to innovate and get better. It's competition. But I do wish Samsung tried a little bit harder to make it more unique and more "Samsung" rather than just emulating their competition.

Initially, I wasn't fond of the watch's cushion design, but now I absolutely love it and can't wait for my preorder to arrive on the 26th.
Great analysis mate. I hate that tech people that know nothing about actual watches do this. I'm glad you pointed out the horology points and case design. Also, Apple weren't the first to release a more rugged smartwatch, Samsung did the same 2 years ago with the watch 5 pro, this ultra seems to be more of an upgrade and continuation of that model. And as you stated, the Frontier version of the Gear S line was the rugged smart watch of the day, whilst the classic was the mainstream everyday smart watch, so Apple have done all the copying here.
That's right! It's like Samsung laid the groundwork for what we're seeing now with the Galaxy Watch Ultra.

Going way back, apples entire software was copied from palm
Also, using swipe features instead of buttons goes back to Nokia and the Meego OS. Used to love the N9
@@justinbmadapple was the 1st to incorporate multi touch, so absolutely not, they didn't copy any swipe features. Besides, there's only so many things you can do with your fingers, everyone was using the same swiping gestures, because that's what made the most sense.
And palm was a giant failure, that relied on the use of a stylus to navigate the OS. There wasn't a phone OS that was anything like IOS before the iPhone, and that's a fact.
You meant to say Galaxy Watch Sport and not Galaxy S3 frontier. Yes, Watch Sport and the new Watch Ultra look so similar.

When you say copying, do you mean copying Apple specifically? Or copying other companies? The watch band color is a specific thing in sport watches before Apple did it. It was on the Gear Sport years before the Apple Watch Ultra. The design of the watch band is not original to Apple. The quick button is known to Samsung phones and other watches thought it's double tap. The "Ultra" moniker was already with Samsung since 2020. And they've been working on their Ultra watch for years, so we don't know who had the idea first. We just know who came out with it first. Besides, the Galaxy Watch Ultra looks nothing like the Apple Watch Ultra. And it comes in 3 colors. The only thing you can say they copied of titanium and even that is not original to Apple products. So Sal was not fanboying. He was showing how Samsung is not copying Apple in the ways people are saying.

Even the "black box" on aircrafts are also orange for the exact same reason. It's the most visible colour under water, which helps finding and recovering the device easily.

I’m back to say the quantified scientist channel tested the health features of the Samsung watches and found they are pretty inaccurate. Say what you want about Apple but there wearables are actually reliable and actually work. Samsung can’t seem to put a decent heart rate sensor in their watch. That’s unfortunate.. cheaper isn’t always better 🤷♀️

As a Samsung fan I’m disappointed. My classic 4 has been running out of battery midday and I’m looking to replace it. This “Apple Watch” from Samsung is absolutely horrible! I bought the Samsung watch because of two reasons, one, I’m in the Samsung ecosystem and two, it looks like an actual watch. This doesn’t. It literally looks like an Apple Watch. I guess I’ll be looking at Garmin. I think this watch will be a flop like the 5 was.

@@misterbrown8213 Yeah, been looking at the 6, two day battery sounds good. I'd be happy with a full day. Only thing it's 590$ !!! Seems ridiculous for last year's model. Maybe it will drop when more 7s are in the market. Am looking around, seems to be a lot of options.

I'll be honest... I only want this because I have S24 Ultra. The orange band, I served 12yrs with Army Signal Corps. I know the watch and band is a diving thing, but whatever... Lastly. 47mm.
