my school's MB has this as a pep tune. 2 things are very notable about this song: 1) there is a rule in my region where if the band plays while football is playing, it is a 15 yard penalty so we can only play between quarters, timeouts, and after touchdowns. Therefore, we almost never get to play this song all the way through. It's been a tradition that we all sing the rest of the song once they start playing since there's no rule on that. 2) During the song, everyone does horn motions. At the part where the band starts to play, every measure we move our entire bodies a bit to the left and then the next measure to the right, as well as putting our right fist up when saying "hey." The band director had nothing to do with this. Everyone just decided one day that we were gonna do that.
I thought I was the only one who thought this! My section of 9 saxes can out play them(probably not the percussion? They actually are the only ones who can pose a threat)
We play this song in my band, but it’s slightly different. More swingy. We call it “low brass cheer” and while the percussion is starting by themselves, we do a “one… two… one. Two. One two three *music*” it’s a lot of fun
@@Sudden_Tax It makes sense, in a pep band setting calling out "The Hey Song!" rolls out of the mouth easier than "Rock and Roll part 2!" They can't watch the drum major and read their music at the same time lol. Back when I was in high school band if you didn't know the music you didn't get to play in the pep or the marching band.

I played this song in 4th grade but we all played 2nd part
We just started our marching routine for our spirit show and we did so good
I can barely hear anyone except the percussion
Yeah that’s kinda a thing in all pep bands
@Abel Moncada I couldn’t even hear it period and I play it
Maybe if the person recording it had been down in front of the band the balance of the instruments would have been better.
Welcome to any band… percussion and trumpets are louder than EVERYBODY

We play this when our Varsity basketball team runs on the court
This sounds like my schools middle school band can’t lie
Tell me why bass drums were off tempo
Wtf I have a 6 people group that I created that plays for various school festivals and stuff and we’re 10x louder
I was thinking the same thing
I swear they are soo quiet

Someone please get that trumpet a lyre
that one trumpet holding her sheet music 😭
I'm gonna play this song with the band 😀
My football song
Are some of the trumpets holding their flip books in one hand and playing with another?
they need to be louder and not so low

Do y’all start with a sousaphone playing F in quarter notes? Or is it only percussion
Why am I watching this right now LMAO
I know this dance like the back of my hand from when I was in school
There is an entrance from the tenor sax that isn’t heard at all. I guess that’s the benefit of our 20 piece.
It’s tackle football I’m on high school oak grove
As a trombone player we do some really fun visuals
the marching bass clarinets. i used to be that guy lol. now i play tenor sax. ( it projects better & farther)
Reminds me of penn state
Isn't this song called rock n roll thats what my director calls it
I just call it "The Hey Song".
Shout-out to the trumpet playing will Holding notes or anyone else who did
