I have just flooded the mines and I have sound your channel yesterday. The detail that you put into your videos is astounding thank you. I am still learning the game mechanics even now
Dav I know it's ultimately a small thing you say at the end of your videos, the the fact that you add that "God Loves You" to your outro just feels so genuine and reminds me of that.
2:30:37 You can get as many Rings of Fire Control as you want. Just rest in the same area where you kill the Insane Dwarf Warrior that drops the ring. Usually you get an encounter with Umber Hulks but sometimes the rest encounter will spawn the same Insane Dwarf Warrior droping the ring everytime you kill him. I managed to get 12 rings, and entire party inmune to fire!
Boots of the West is a cut item still in the game files. Unfinished Business adds it to Valygar's ranger buddy outside the cabin. (UB also adds a cut bastard sword +1 with 50% fire res to the other ranger's cabin)
Just saying but Darkmail +3 can be worn by barbarians at a point when they really have nothing better to use. Basically until the Chosen of Cyric encounter and that is only if you are using the mod. Doomplate +3 is also good in Spellhold if you install the big boy component from SCS where your items are taken from party. It's used in Spellhold including the Irenicus encounter. Similarly Ring of Regeneration is also very relevant in Spellhold when you install the SCS component which makes Bodhi hunt you. You can't really rest so that +1 HP / round is a good way of regenerating wounded characters while walking.
I was a little worried where Davaeorn was going at first when he mentioned furries and the wolf cloak, then running off with Jaheira into the woods. Thankfully he restrained himself from any further details. Haha! Great list, thanks for the video!
Nice video! I have been binging your guide videos and they are very helpful for someone that only played causually as a kid (over 15 years ago). I think you should do a bestiary video too!
Absolutely love this! Excellent job on trying out all of these items! I also like the way that you differentiate between items that work well in BG1, BG2, and TOB (which can be obvious, but hearing it from an expert is great). Well done and thank you!
I really like the "helm of opposite alignement" in BG1. Mostly because I prefer playing a good party, but I also want Viconia on my team. So with this nice headgear I don't have to check my reputation all the time in order to prevent Vicci from running off. Also its kinda funny to be a good guy, but giving someone a cursed helmet to break their free will.
Davaeorn! You explain really well. Right at the start for basic chain mail you brought the example of Drizzt wearing it and I remember one play through I somwhow beat Drizzt with a level 2 character using mace (Stupifier). So now I learn how I was able to achieve this.
Hi Davaeorn. I just want you to know your content has been really helpful and entertaining for me. When I as young this game was too hard to understand so i gave up early. Because of your channel, 20 years later I got back into it and loved it. I recently installed all those mods for my next playthrough. Keep it up. You are the best.
Awesome!!!❤❤❤ 15:01 The Armor of Missile Attraction...according to the description for the Reflection Shield, it will reflect a SUCCESSFUL missile attack...this would be prefect, with an AC of 15 ( 🤣 ) to missile attacks...😮 22:28 According to the Wiki, certain classes can wear this armor without Use Any Item if you meet the stat requirements. 🧐 24:43 This is dropped from the Handmaiden who comes after Viconia, if you're romancing her. 2:15:26 If you're using a scroll of Clairvoyance, this will reveal the entire map, above or below ground. No fog of war. (but of course, enemies are still invisible) I've read from 2 different sources that this helm will show you evil creatures (red glow) in a map within your sight range, even if you don't have line of sight, (like they're in the next room) thus allowing you to know where your enemies are. The setup seems iffy, but in theory this could be of value in setting up ambushes and such. 2:37:11 And Mass Cure. Dan, you've mentioned before how you think Mass Cure was lame? It's NOT. It works if the party is Improved Invisible. 😮😮😮
Great video, thanks! Minus style points for that Vermintide remark, but that's okay :) Your videos always spark in me a desire to come back to the trilogy. I guess that's what I'll do after BG3 :)
To pipe in on the Periapt of Proof Against Poison, I've found a really amazing use for it in Spellhold on No Reloads. The Gesen Bow room with the golems that spawn, I will equip it on the best archer (I usually run with the Kivan mod anyway) and plink away while they can't get out of the door. Any way to safely do that room on No Reloads is absolutely welcome to me.
I think a lot of magic armor is worse than normal armor and a +1/+2 ring/cloak of protection, until you get some really good armor or other rings and cloaks, which is a big ask for 6 characters. Also any item that gives even a tiny amount of HP regen is good for healing to full on an 8 hour travel.
There's an option on Tweaks mod that lets you change protection items and armor restrictions. Dav has it on magical armor and one protection item allowed. He had it for so long this way he probably forgot to put a disclaimer, which is a big oversight. There are very, very few magical armors that are worth it over a +2 ring or cloak. In vanilla it's imo only human flesh and red dragon scale.
@@Anterwaare306I was unaware of this mod (I only play vanilla on a tablet). I agree though, unmodded, I think most of the time you’re better off with mundane armor and a ring of protection for better saves, unless the benefit from the armor is especially good.
You missed a bunch The Discipliner/Ring of Folly: can be used with limited wish to generate infinite vampires for XP Keepsake Locket: you talk about Anomen's romance ring, you gotta talk about Jaheira's Dale's Protector: you scrolled right past it Ring of human influence: you scrolled right past it Topsider's Crutch: you scrolled right past it
"The Discipliner/Ring of Folly: can be used with limited wish to generate infinite vampires for XP" We can't all have this level of galaxy-brain. That's amazing!
Great, im now imagining Anomen eating hotdogs while in a sanctuary and turning undeads while Neera is being "quirky" and limited wishing in hordes of vampires.
2:18:52 I like putting Vhailor's Helm on my Archer. If I'm fighting a boss that can be hit with +3 I'll have both the Archer and the simulacrum holding Tuigan Bow for the APR, then I rain Called Shots until the boss collapses from stats death (Called Shot drains strength after level 12.) Sometimes happens before the boss has even fallen below half HP.
@@LightWavess And then almost gets one shot because no helmet. Not quite as bad as monk, because d10+massive CON bonus, but still risky to go into melee. Pray enemies don't roll 20s back to back.
@@dive_bomb3r difference is still noticeable having -5 AC and getting hit to crit vs being hit all the time because you're naked in melee, ofc that being said it's only really usable on Kensai aside of that it's just if you're worried about magic missile
@@dive_bomb3r Ive started making comparisons recently and ive noticed Kensai feels like a better monk class because of ridiculous Thaco gains and HP and in my opinion if you wanna play a monk without mods (RR for stones or Darkveil, HLA mod) you might as well just play Kensai. 24:14 thats a base game item actually. You get it from the handmaiden of lolth who tracks down viconia. I think you only get this interaction if you are romancing her though.
Liches, dragons, mind flayers, etc etc all have passive see invisibility that goes right through it. If you're fighting rayic gethras or some humanoid wizard the cloak will make you immune to their divination spells, but against high level magical enemies it does nothing.
The restrictions for rings, cloaks, and necklaces of protection make regular armor and a ring better than most magic armor. The trade-off of giving up saves is hard.
Hide Armor were actually added for Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack back in 1999. It were eventually ported over to Baldur's Gate 2. Just want to point out. Makes sense since many back then skipped Baldur's Gate entirely and went straight to Baldur's Gate 2. No matter, it is an weak, useless armor.
You forgot Neera's quest reward - Robe of Goodman Hayes which is S+ tier for a neutral wild mage: it gives permanent Chaos Shield which is *cumulative* with wild mage's Improved Chaos Shield spell which gives +40 to the wild surge roll. While not so awesome for a battle, it is great for pre-buffing using NRD which would succeed a lot more often, especially for a high level mage with Thayan Circlet. Works on 2.6 - both vanilla and SCS.
The victor deals 2x 2d6 so its 4d6 with no save and despite looking like scorcher it actually deals magical damage and not fire so its useful against more enemies since fire res is common.
The Visage is great. Static immunities are S tier for when you lose your buffs, plus Chosen of Cyric and Watcher's Keep Level 3. Always keep them. The Acid Breath is great since Save vs Death at -4 or be knocked out for 2 rounds on mages.
Ever thought about covering some of the counsel only stuff like special ammo, selunes blade, cow spell or gorion magic missile/lightning bolt? There’s some weird stuff like the belt you can toggle to plate armor. The bow that shoots fire wielded by phoenix guard. Some other oddities to a necklace that functions as boots of speed with blur sw1h99 gets you sword of chaos bg1. Can’t remember everything but og BG had some weird things you could mess around with.
Great vid as always, Dav! Thanks for your efforts Definitely seems like Chosen of Cyric encounter adds a disproportionate amount of S tier items compared to the rest of the game...!
I really have to wonder why. The mod is there to rebalance rogues, but it adds an entire set of ToB worthy items for all classes? Da fuq? Arguably it's needed because of how crazy SCS ascension is, but it still seems like a strange decision.
@daveorn would you be willing to do a weapon guide? Maybe go through the best weapons in the game and which classes benefit the most from their use? Thanks!
32:56 Hide Armor was added in ToTSC, not BG2- same with scimitars. You can buy it in Ulgoth's Beard and Durlag's Tower Now, I've no idea *why* they added it, but, still

Dav I know it's ultimately a small thing you say at the end of your videos, the the fact that you add that "God Loves You" to your outro just feels so genuine and reminds me of that.
Holy shit I never thought the day would come. Time for another run
I managed to get 12 rings, and entire party inmune to fire!
wow thats crazy cheers for the tip
Will have to try this, thanks
Boots of the West is a cut item still in the game files. Unfinished Business adds it to Valygar's ranger buddy outside the cabin. (UB also adds a cut bastard sword +1 with 50% fire res to the other ranger's cabin)
Honey wake up, new Davaeorn vid just dropped
TorGal can see through invisibility because... *sniff* *sniff* *sniff* *sniff* I smell you! I do... you gradunk no be hiding on TorGal!

I think you should do a bestiary video too!
bump, this is legit a good idea. Could have a few different videos for undead/spiders/ogres/drow etc
Yep exactly! It could be especially useful for the SCS mod since it changes a lot in regards to monster abilities
Absolutely love this! Excellent job on trying out all of these items! I also like the way that you differentiate between items that work well in BG1, BG2, and TOB (which can be obvious, but hearing it from an expert is great). Well done and thank you!
It’s here, it’s finally here!
Awesome!!!❤❤❤
15:01 The Armor of Missile Attraction...according to the description for the Reflection Shield, it will reflect a SUCCESSFUL missile attack...this would be prefect, with an AC of 15 ( 🤣 ) to missile attacks...😮
22:28 According to the Wiki, certain classes can wear this armor without Use Any Item if you meet the stat requirements. 🧐
24:43 This is dropped from the Handmaiden who comes after Viconia, if you're romancing her.
Nice one on the Armor of Missile Attraction and Reflection Shield combo 😊
Man, your work is so helpful, thank you.
Great video, thanks! Minus style points for that Vermintide remark, but that's okay :)
Your videos always spark in me a desire to come back to the trilogy.
Funny how I played these games from launch, and have played D&D since 2e, yet I still find myself learning things watching Dav
New video! Thanks a lot Dav. Enjoy your streams and enjoy these guides even more.
My gawd, this slipped by me whilst i was distracted elsewhere. Good morning Dav!
You are an absolute legend, dude. Thanks for this!
Youre a legend Dav. God bless, and thanks for the constant streams!
I think im going to cry tears of joy
these series are so calming to listen to.
Hey Dav!
Ever considered doing an FAQ? I would imagine certain questions like your opinion on the Icewind Dale games or Black Pits come quite often.
Definitely need to at some point!
Ah the man that got me into the infinity engine games watches the guy that helped me beat bg 2 on insane with scs. Love it.
Dav, can you please create a playlist with this video, the HLA video, the weapons video, the classes video, and the companions videos? Thanks! 🙂
You missed a bunch
The Discipliner/Ring of Folly: can be used with limited wish to generate infinite vampires for XP
Keepsake Locket: you talk about Anomen's romance ring, you gotta talk about Jaheira's
Dale's Protector: you scrolled right past it
Ring of human influence: you scrolled right past it
Topsider's Crutch: you scrolled right past it
Circlet of Netheril: He scrolled past it
"The Discipliner/Ring of Folly: can be used with limited wish to generate infinite vampires for XP"
We can't all have this level of galaxy-brain. That's amazing!
@@ThMrksman Anomen can just blow them up too without needing to do anything
Great, im now imagining Anomen eating hotdogs while in a sanctuary and turning undeads while Neera is being "quirky" and limited wishing in hordes of vampires.
These vids are the best and will continue to be for a very long time.
You are a true bard and a true dwarf my boy
I really like these "Davaeorn's guides to everything". All hail Davaeorn, the One who surpassed Baldur's gate!
2:16:17 "something"
Just kidding. You know I love you man. Thanks for another epic video.
Have to leave a comment to appease the RUclips algorithm gods. Legendary work, Dav!
Shield amulet is useful for kensai in BG1. It's your only source of base AC.
It's arguebly gamebreaking, suddenly that guy who's meant to get hit alot walks around with -5 AC naked
Kensai throwing daggers devastates BG1
I initially created this for myself but thought it might be helpful to share. Please help me correct it, as I put it together quickly and am sure there are errors or omissions. The timestamps may not always be perfectly accurate, and some unranked items might actually be ranked by Davaeorn, to whom I extend my gratitude for this marvelous guide.

24:14 thats a base game item actually. You get it from the handmaiden of lolth who tracks down viconia. I think you only get this interaction if you are romancing her though.
Soo excited when I saw this drop! Great job always! You did miss the Dales protector though! 😂😂
Outstanding, simply cannot say any more transcendent things about it!
You did it!! Hell Yeah!!! Been waiting for this one.
1:40:19 So it blocks the See Invisibility SPELL but not innate See Invisibility/True Sight?
Liches, dragons, mind flayers, etc etc all have passive see invisibility that goes right through it. If you're fighting rayic gethras or some humanoid wizard the cloak will make you immune to their divination spells, but against high level magical enemies it does nothing.
The restrictions for rings, cloaks, and necklaces of protection make regular armor and a ring better than most magic armor. The trade-off of giving up saves is hard.
Did I miss something or was ring of human influence not mentioned? S tier??
I love that your videos make me want to play bg2 and then I try to play bg2 and I can't get past chapter 2
Love this content! Thanks Daveorn.
To my fellow commenters, did I miss the ranking for Helm of Rock?
I've been waiting for this!
Great guide. Thank you. Consider making "BG's Boss Fight Guide" one day.
The Visage is great. Static immunities are S tier for when you lose your buffs, plus Chosen of Cyric and Watcher's Keep Level 3. Always keep them. The Acid Breath is great since Save vs Death at -4 or be knocked out for 2 rounds on mages.
24:21 - "Why is this here?" Dav says, and then the MUSIC starts playing very dramatically, signalling some massive mystery...such a coincidence🤣
Robe of the Archmagi also adds hood. Stylish AF.
Thanks for your efforts
Definitely seems like Chosen of Cyric encounter adds a disproportionate amount of S tier items compared to the rest of the game...!
I really have to wonder why. The mod is there to rebalance rogues, but it adds an entire set of ToB worthy items for all classes? Da fuq?
Arguably it's needed because of how crazy SCS ascension is, but it still seems like a strange decision.
Thank you so much for the knowledge!
@daveorn would you be willing to do a weapon guide? Maybe go through the best weapons in the game and which classes benefit the most from their use? Thanks!
32:56 Hide Armor was added in ToTSC, not BG2- same with scimitars. You can buy it in Ulgoth's Beard and Durlag's Tower
Now, I've no idea *why* they added it, but, still
I love you content, thumb before watching, all the best for you
Love the guide content!
Ring of Graxx Haste is supposed to be special one - it should stack with Blade's offensive stance, allowing Blade to have 10 APR.
33:00 umm ACKSHUALLY Hide Armor was actually added in Tales of the Sword Coast, not Baldur's Gate II. 🤓☝
I couldn't believe my eyes! It's here everybody! 💕
Another great guide. Hope you keep up the good work.
