How did you get your 1st inspection job? Do you find larger power companies have their own pilots?
Offering the service for free when first starting out and learning by contacting local companies/businesses with rooftop solar. Some of the national solar companies employ full time pilots but it is not that common for smaller companies

Connect with local solar installers and roofing companies for pre and post-condition assessment inspections. Its all about liability.
what kind of information can you give if you're looking at working in this field from 'entry level' perspective?
If you are really serious about wanting to work in this field I'd recommend reading/watching as much info on the topic as you can and reach out to people who perform these inspections. Maybe you can even shadow someone.

Since you use thermal drones maybe you can answer this...
Can you see a person in a shipping container using one of these?
You cant see thru anything with an infrared camera. Unless there is a fire in the container causing a hotspot detected on the outside of the container walls with the camera, infrared wont help you there.
I am looking to get into this, what software do you use? Something in Pix4d? Or Flir tools?
A few are on the market, Aerospec Technologies, DroneDeploy, Raptor maps, I think DJI is creating one too
