I got to go to OCIR twice in '75 and '76. I was a kid in high school and got to go with my older brother. We drove over from Phoenix. What great times!!

Unfortunately I never got to attend an event at the legendary Orange County venue but I did get to see all of these spectacular drivers and Funny Cars many times during those years.
Brute Force definitely applies to John’s driving style and personality then and now. A true champion of champions !
It’s too bad that a sanctioning body combined with corporate politics has managed to castrate many drivers along their crews in matters such as personality and creativity. One driver in particular refuses to have his nuts cut off. May the Force be with him always in his future endeavors. Thanks for a lifetime of great memories Champ 🏆.

That boy will do anything for attention. Cool he made it to the finals, but I knew his first win wasn't going to happen until Canada.
Get Better John. Can't wait until you grace the starting line and deep stage one more time.

Thanks for posting. My first time seeing John "Brute" Force was at U.S. 30 Dragstrip, Merrillville IN, in the Mountain Dew Citation. 1982?

OCIR was my home track from the mid-70's to the closing in 1983. I knew and worked with the OCIR track medics from being a flager and lap counter at the OCIR motocross track. They would work the match races at OCIR, but not the NHRA races because NHRA had its own Safe Safari crew. Those medics mentioned that they did not like John Force because he had reputation for being a driver that would not get out of the throttle no matter how sideways he got. There was another guy like him that drove a funny car that had the name "Captain Crazy" on the side of the car that would do the same thing.

Nhra has gone so far off the path, you have the Camaro class that used to be prostock. You have funny cars that the bodies are all the same just different stickers. If they went back to actually using stock bodies for prostock and made the funny cars look more like the factory cars. Yes it might slow them down a little but aren't they always trying to slow them down anyways

    Whatever happened to those "dry-hops"?
And why can't we have 64 funny cars again?!?!?

The rotting corpse of the NHRA was beginning to stink until John Force arrived and breathed new life into it....
