I would like to thank everyone at 4yourCNA for providing the free videos and supple kits to pass my CNA exam here in MI. I bought a small practice kit and a dvd from 4yourCNA your states skills were almost the same as MI's a little different, but not to different because I just passed my CNA exam here in Michigan on Monday March 16,2015. Before I ordered 4yourCNA small practice kit and a dvd I did make sure that Florida's skills were close to MI's and they were close so I ordered a kit and the dvd. I went to a CNA refresher course that my CNA training school offered once a month to their CNA grads and I also made almost 300flash cards to study for my CNA exam. My family let me practice my skills on them. I studied hard for 2 months for my CNA exam and I passed! THANK YOU 4yourCNA I will never forget that 4yourCNA helped me pass and for all my hard work and my family's support Thank you again and god bless. Good luck to everyone that is trying to pass their CNA exam and you can do it. I believe in you guys.
If you look at your checklist provided by the state testing site, you will see that gloves ARE NOT a required smart one! Unless the skin is not intact, then you are dealing with a foot! In the REAL world- wear gloves! This is the state test. ANY SKILL that REQUIRES gloves CLEARLY states it in the skills checkpoints! Also, YES we ARE allowed to get on the ground at ANY time we choose. This is NOT a fail on the exam. Great job Patty!
Rinsing outside of the basin will get water all over the floor! You should put the foot back in the basin to rinse. Trying to hold it above the basin while rinsing may put undue strain on the patient's leg and lower back (especially with weak patients that won't be able to hold their foot up that long), so placing it into the basin is best. This ensures all areas are rinsed adequately so that soap does not stay on the skin surface, drying the skin and creating cracks. Hope this helps!
No. For the exam, you can just say that you would allow the foot to soak, the evaluator will not want you to stand around for 5 minutes (remember, you only have an average of 35 minutes to perform all 3 skills and you don't want to waste any of those minutes!) so just verbally acknowledging that you would soak is fine! Or, put the foot in the basin while you set up your towel, get yourself in position and put on your gloves, that is sufficient for the exam as well. Good luck!
For the exam, the care plan will instruct you to wash one foot. This saves time during the exam (the state figures if you can wash one foot correctly, you could do the other one the same way!). Good luck on your exam!
Yes, you may kneel on the floor. Your uniform is not considered clean after you begin work because you lean against beds, privacy curtains, etc., so it is acceptable to kneel on the floor. Trying to squat for the amount of time required during this skill can cause you to lose your balance or have difficulty standing. Good luck!
I am not familiar with Oregon's principles, so I cannot answer that question. However, these videos reflect nursing best practices, which are universal and should satisfy the requirements of most states. Hope this helps!
No. You can touch clean equipment with your clean hands and dirty equipment with your dirty hands. But after you have cleaned your equipment (but while your hands are still dirty), you need to have a barrier between your dirty hands and your clean equipment so that you do not contaminate the now-clean basin with your still-dirty hands. Thanks for your question!
Yes, the Florida exam requires the foot to be placed back into the basin for rinsing. If the water is visibly soiled, take the time to replace the water prior to rinsing. It is vital to rinse thoroughly because soap left on the skin is very drying and the skin of the feet and legs is usually already dry (esp. in the elderly or those with circulation problems or diabetes). We are trying to prevent the skin from cracking. Thanks for the question and good luck!
Most people cannot squat for that amount of time without experiencing fatigue of the leg muscles that may make it difficult to stand. Using a chair is an acceptable option, however, the CNA is now bending way over to wash and rinse the foot in the basin. The patient may not have the ability to lift the leg high enough to rest on the CNAs lap for drying. Kneeling on the floor is acceptable since your uniform is not considered clean because it touches hospital beds, curtains, patients, etc.
Thank you. I am a visual person, the vid helped me a lot, passed the midterms with sour help, in 2 days I hope to pass my finals. I am Nevada, the good body mechanics are very important here,we do raise the bad up to perform the skill and down, when we are done. God bless you :-)
LOL! Thanks for your great comment! We are happy that you found our videos helpful...please tell a friend about us! Good luck in your future career in healthcare!
You need two washcloths (1 to wash, 1 to rinse) and 1 towel to dry. This video was developed according to Florida state standards and is the correct and acceptable way to perform this skill. Good luck!
You remain in the room while cleaning your equipment and disposing of linens, so having access to a call light to call you when you are already in the room is not necessary. It is acceptable to clean your environment before getting the patient settled. You must ensure that the patient has a call light, the curtain is open and the environment is clean before washing your hands and ending the skill (as demonstrated). This meets best nursing practice standards and is proper for the exam. Good luck!
Yes, unfortunately the basin cleaning footage was spliced in and the wrong footage was used. For the FL test, you may clean the basin either with or without gloves. Both are fine. Good luck!
Thank you for pointing this out (this was an error during video editing) and it will be corrected. However, you do not NEED gloves on during this portion of the skill. You can touch the dirty equipment with your dirty hands, then set the basin down in the sink to disinfect it. Now, your basin is clean, but the hands are still dirty (regardless of whether you have gloves on or not because the gloves would be dirty) and you must use a barrier between your hands and the basin at that point. Thx
For the exam, you will not have to soak for any period of time. This is not a tested point. In a clinical setting, you will soak for the period of time indicated on the care plan, if a specific time is requested. 15-20 minutes will cause the water to become cold and uncomfortable, so that may not be recommended. Hope this helps!
Any substance that would normally go into the toilet, we will dispose of in the toilet (urine, feces). Any bathing water can be disposed of in the sink. Just think of what the substance is and where it would normally go. Good luck on your exam!
You do not need two pairs of gloves for this skill. As long as the patient has intact skin (and they will for the exam), there is no infection control risk, therefore no need to change gloves. Hope this helps!
These skills are specific for Florida but also meet national standards for best nursing practices. You would need to check with your state's specific standards for more information. These standards may be found by contacting your state's board of nursing.
CNAs are not permitted to clean under or file patient's toenails because of the risk of injury to patients. Patients with poor circulation, diabetes and other health conditions will have a delayed healing time for injuries of the feet and legs. Therefore, CNAs cannot do anything that could potential injure these areas. You are to wash, rinse, dry and lotion only. The reason for this skill is to observe the skin of the feet and report any abnormalities. Thanks.
According to California testing standards, the foot must be placed in the basin on a barrier to soak. This will not be performed with the patient in bed. This may be your facility policy, but it does not reflect current testing standards. Not all patients will be dementia patients. Your facility my have produced a policy to accommodate this particular patient group, but it is not the way it will be presented for the exam or performed in other settings. Thanks for the comment! Good luck!
I am sorry you feel that way but this video complies to current Florida state standards (which you may view on Prometric's website). I am an RN with 25 years experience and have conducted extensive research on testing standards and best nursing practices before developing these videos. Certainly feel free to use other training materials if you wish, but these are CORRECTLY demonstrated for the Florida test. Good luck!
Congratulations! We are very proud of you! Make sure you subscribe to our channel to be notified of continuing education videos we will be posting later this year! Great job!
You are not graded on whether you kneel on the floor because your uniform is not considered clean because you lean against the bed, sinks, privacy curtains, etc. throughout the day (all dirty objects). Kneeling on the floor is acceptable.
Yes! Yes finally somebody doing something rite..at the beginning wen she used a paper towel as a barrier to turn on the faucet it was genius I wouldn't think of that.( she did it to not re contaminate her hands because she had already washed them) and she remember privacy and to wash her hands #Excellant
Thank you for posting these videos. I went to your website though and when I tried to watch them on there it said that i couldnt view it because the video is private. Might want to fix that.
couple mistakes... You are to NEVER actually kneel on the floor for the test. You will instantly fail, and Gloves are not optional they are a must when dealing with feet.
Yeah I'm nervous about that too. I'm in a different state. In our test procedure it just says "foot is rinsed, including between the toes". That's not that helpful! Do I rinse in or out of the basin? :(
For any skill that you have to use water for, can you dispose of the water in the commode instead of the sink?????? I'm nervous again, I take my test tomorrow.
Ok I knw it's late, but I noticed when you rinse & disinfect the basin your not wearing any gloves. For the FL state test is it ok to have your gloves on while you do that, and end the skill by discarding your gloves just like ur video?
Yoh will computer your facility's guidelines. Some facilities may require additional disinfection techniques based on the conditions of the specific patient. Sprays should not be used in close proximity to patients with respiratory conditions, but some patients with immune system disorders may need additional protections. Always abide by the care plan and your facility's policies and procedures. Thanks.
In California, we only provide foot care when the patient is laying in bed. Less chance for ALOC/dementia patients to kick you, plus it saves your back from having to kneel down for so long. :)
Hello! I had a question regarding the skills because I was taught that we must always take care of the patient, making sure they are positioned correctly with call light and all of that, before we disposed of any linens or put away equipment.. Will doing this cause points to be deducted during the test?
For the state exam, the care plan will instruct you to wash only one foot. So you will not need to change water or wash the other foot for the test. In a clinical setting, it would depend on the patient - some patients you can wash both feet in the basin at the same time. Other patients may require completely separate basins (burns, incisions, infections, rashes, etc.) You will not be required to make this decision - all instructions must be given by the care plan or nurse. Always follow the care plan!
At this time, we are focusing only on CNA skills and training. We hope to develop nursing skills videos in the future. Thanks for your question! Best of luck in your test!
While the skills each state may require the CNA to demonstrate may be different from state to state, the actual performance of those skills will be done according to general nursing best practices. These videos demonstrate proper nursing procedures for all skills demonstrated, including adherence to infection control, patient rights and safety protocol. While these skills are intended for Florida CNA students, others may find them useful as well. Thank you for your comment.
We kindly request your patience as we are currently in the process of implementing subtitles for all our videos across the channel, to enhance your viewing experience.

+Tache Young You do not need to dispose of bathing water into the toilet, only body fluids that would normally go into the toilet will need to be disposed of in the toilet (urine, feces, emesis, etc.). Bathing water does not have to go into the toilet. Thank you for your comment.

i just want to second this...perhaps it was acceptable when the video was made but you'll instantly fail if you do that now.
Kneeling on the floor is an automatic fail. For my finals in class though, we don't have to wear gloves.
How Else Are We Suppose To Get To There Feet ?
if we don't kneel on the floor how the heck we gonna do the skill? by bending my back to reach for their feet? smh
first I would like to thanks God.. And thank you my love. I pass both my written and skills.
First attempt
Congratulations! That is awesome news! We wish you great success in your new career! :-)
@@4yourcna Thank you! I wish you guys had LPN courses
RUclips is not just about it and it's just not really a thing so it's a very good thing to say that CNA
What about changing direction for cleaning between toes?
Could these skills be used in the state of North Carolina?
are we allowed to kneel on the floor
My instructor says that kneeling on the floor is contaminating our clothes, so she advises us to kneel on a pad or towel.
Hi Ms Patty... hi here again watching your videos. my question here to i need to soak the one foot exactly 5-10 min? thank you
In Michigan we cannot have knees on the floor infection not control
I need practice can test

Thank you
I had foot care, Radial pulse and reposition
All good skills! Congratulations! :-)
hello what is the standard temperature of water for foot care for prometric? pls help me i need to pass my pro metric exam
Around 105-109. It must be warm water, never hot.
I thought hands were 5-10 min soak and feet were 15-20? That's what we were told in Mosby's Nursing assistant book. Is that wrong?
In my book that I got from my CNA class I took the supplies say 2 bath towels and 1 wash cloth... (I'm in Florida) so... which would I do?
Are we really supposed to put the foot back in the basin to rinse?
Hello! I had a question regarding the skills because I was taught that we must always take care of the patient, making sure they are positioned correctly with call light and all of that, before we disposed of any linens or put away equipment.. Will doing this cause points to be deducted during the test?
no gloves while you washing the basin ??? you have them before and after
Hello... so when we do our state test when we preform our skill will it say the supplies we need tp preform the skill?
Do these standards meet in California? I take mine in march right around the corner
how is measuring input and output done?
Are these videos good for Arkansas State Exam? I really need to know
I take my can exam next week are these videos okay for Utah standards?
Hello, is this skill done in bed or floor in the state of Texas?
Hello. Do these videos meet the state of Michigan standards? Thanks
Do we have to change water an supplys for each foot

hey Patti thanks for these helpful videos. I'm taking my exam very soon.
BTW do you do RN courses or clinical skills videos? @4yourCNA
At this time, we are focusing only on CNA skills and training. We hope to develop nursing skills videos in the future. Thanks for your question! Best of luck in your test!
I thought you had to have a barrier when handling any equpiment?
for the state exam do we only wash 1 foot or both feet?
do these videos meet the state of Connecticut standars? thanks
thank you!
Thank you for watching our channel! Please refer to the new videos for the most updated skills instruction! Best of luck! :-)
I saw you wearing gloves when applying lotion is it acceptable in Florida?
Yes, as long as you wash your hands after taking the gloves off. That's what my instructor told me.
Do they remain in bed when doing rid for the Florida state test? Or are they sitting on a chair like in the video
I think on the chair for the exam.
,
do these meet Arkansas requirements
excellent job😇
Thank you! Please refer to our newest skills videos for updated skills performance! Best of luck!

dump water from the basin in the toilet or bedside commode never in the sink
