- I didn't really need to buy another amp, but this one has something I've been wanting.
Big thanks to David Collison for the use of his guitar

That is a worthy purchase I'd be jamming away all day
I am also shopping around for a tube amp. Your vid will help me decide what to buy. Thanks man!
Just the kind of amp/good deal I’m looking for myself right now. On the hunt for my 1st Tube amp. Good score 🤘
I've been lucky with my Blackstar Studio HT 20... took it on many jam nights over the years and has two great sounding channels... for Clean and Crunchy classic rock tones... especially good as a pedal platform amp... which is how I usually used it. I even lent it to Johnny Beane for that Tiki Toms
gig he did a few months back... worked great! But I have to admit, I haven't played it much since I got my EVH Iconic 5150 80 watt head with that Orange 2x12... in the 40 watt mode... it's so amazing! The only Blackstar that let me down so far is the 2nd speaker to my Fly Mini amp rig... just stopped working... but the main one still works. Not crazy about the Distortion tones... but otherwise, great amps for the money... especially if you get a good one used! Cool video! 😎🤘🎸
Yup, I can't say I'm thrilled with the dirt channel, but I can say the clean channel does play well with pedals.
Hope all's good with you. Cheers.
Nice find Mike!
I just got a Blackstar HT5R Mk II in surf green that was on sale for $299. So far I love it. I'm fine with it not being 'pure tube'. I use pedals that aren't pure analog so my signal isn't pure anyway.
Hey Mike, I had a HT-5 RH that I ran into a 212 cab and sounded great for a couple small gigs I had a few years back 🤓
Hey,Grumpy good review as long as your happy is more important, nice gretch,Cheers!
Nice double-speaker cabinet. The ECC83 is equivalent to a 12AX7, making that second tube another pre-gain or more likely a gain tube for the over-drive channel. Sounds like a standard hybrid amp set-up: tube pre-amp and solid-state amp behind it. Also it sounds like a solid-state amp. I figured you were going for the cabinet at the beginning, when you were hinting around. I scored a 1959 Tremolux cabinet with the tube-complement sticker still in it (no amp). It had a Fender 15" speaker in the baffle -- probably a conversion from 12", 'cause I can't find references to a 15" Tremolux anywhere. But it is a beautiful blonde box that has seen years of use under a bunch of amps through the years (mostly bass). When the speaker blew, I replaced it with a Jensen 15. I also have a '68 Ampeg Reverbojet that spit out a resistor and fried the innards, but it too is a nice looking cabinet with a 12" Herald "Muscle Magnet" spkr. Kind-a been missing the 2 x 10 I had in the 80s (my buddy scored a Fender 6 x 10 back then, probably for a Bassman -- a beast with electric guitar).
great idea about the two ten cab idea. sounds ok but always hard o tell on the interweb thingy lol. Always love your videos Mike. Be Good. NAM?
I thought about it, but can't really afford the trip. Plus, I'm a bit cautious about how good it will be in the post pandemic era. Maybe next time.
I totally understand, and I always get the budget part.
Not a good experience for me . The amp sounded good . 20 watt I thk HT combo . 3 wks after warranty it died , never to breath another breath . 2 tech's said cost me more to fix it than buy a new one .
I like how urs sounds . Here's hoping u have a way better experience ( as phil says) than I did . Good luck with tht .
Oh, and no it's not a hybrid amp in the traditional sense. Both the pre amp and the power section are tubes. The digital portion comes from the voicing of the signal. On the MKII's you can select between 2 voices on the clean and the overdrive channels.
