    I did this for years and it does work. I traveled for free for basically as long as I wanted to. It is kind of a full time job keeping track of your cards and which one you should use and which ones you've already used. My problem now is I don't spend money anymore. I'm financially independent, have no debt, and very few bills. I wouldn't have 3,000 worth of expenses to put on a card now so this doesn't work for me. I think it's far easier to just pay for your plane ticket when you want to go somewhere than work this racket. But I'm old now and just want things simple.

    VERY well done ! I say this with 40+ years in mortgage finance & banking working with credit bureaus. Different models and parameters are used by different industries but *Linux tech corps* info is pretty much universal. If you're trying to max your credit scores, there is a happy medium between too many credit cards and none. Too many cards with zero balnce may actually hurt you in some cases. Even if you do not use them, you have a potential. To always pay cash & still have cards doesn't help your scores as well

    • @Determination212
      @Determination212 5 лет назад +6

      At least with Amazon, I believe you get up to 5% back on purchases? What bothers me with many of these travel card is when the only thing that's attractive is the sign up bonus. When signing up for a card, I prefer to keep it for at least 2 years. I often find that a lot of these travel cards after the bonus isn't worth it. If I have to pay an annual fee, and I'm lucky if I only spend 15,000 a year, that's like a 150 dollars worth of points. But if the annual fee is a 100 dollars, I really only made $50.00. I find that many of these travel reward cards are best if you fly or stay at hotels frequently. A secret that I found over the years, is that if you have some friends that live across the country, try to see if you could stay at their place first. Then at least you're saving yourself a lot of money which is often greater in value than what you receive in reward points anyways.

    • @Spetz
      @Spetz 5 лет назад

      The cards with percentage rewards only aren't that great. The amazon one for example is the most you can get back at 5% and that's only on amazon related things...so if you spend $1000 on there it'll net you $50 in savings...$2k for $100 in savings...but then you have cards like the chase southwest card where after $1000 in spend you earn 40k points which is equivalent to at least $400 with the annual fee waived the first year. So the bonus is going to pay back much faster than any percentage based card like amazon. My bonus cards have saved me around $6-7k in traveling and I have a lot more points set to go for other trips. I'd never save that much with percentage only cards like amazon or discover it or something similar.

    • @Squintillions
      @Squintillions 5 лет назад +1

      @@Determination212 Yes if you have a Prime membership you get 5% back on purchases or if you don't have the membership, it is 2% back. Also, 2% back at restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores. Then 1% for any other purchases. No annual fee. My first month had a good cash back amount because I bought my new laptop through Amazon (I was going to buy a new one anyway because the pixels in my screen were dying and it was getting super slow). I fly like once or maybe twice a year, I shop at Amazon every week!

    • @SUHVAGE
      @SUHVAGE 5 лет назад

      So the issue with Amazon is that its a cashback card. People will choose a Sapphire card with an annual fee because of the sign up bonus but also because its worth. Youll earn 2x on travel and restaurants with the Sapphire Prefered, but the biggest catch is the redemption. Yeah on face value its worth 2%, but the better perk is when you redeem those points to travel partners, if you book a great redemption, many people get 6x or even 10x the value on certain redemptions. Spent $100 at a restaurant? Sure $2 in cashback is nice, but if you can earn 200 points instead and those 200points then get spend on a travel partner and booked on a flight that earns 6-10x, all of a sudden that same $2 is worth $6-$10 but on a larger scale (because these flights cost 60k+ in points). I for example have 400k in UR. Thats 4k in cashback. Sounds amazing on surface, but that same amount of points can can get be insane redemption values that are worth easily 20k

    • @chandanbmw

      $95 CB for $1900 of purchase in a month ? Not including whatever sigh up cashback you got?

    I got my first credit card in the mail today. Thanks to being a part of my dads account as an additional card member, I have an insane limit. I can’t wait to pay for some memberships to things like Apple Music and Spotify like I usually would and then just pay it off with my debit card to build credit. I’ve coincidentally been binging your videos the last few days and I’m happy I did because I have a better understanding of credit cards now. Thanks.

    Advanced credit card churning class: You basically have your broke college friends with no Amazon prime account send you things they want from Amazon. Then you use your Prime account and new credit card to make the purchase and have your friend venmo you the money. They get the stuff the next day, you get your points, venmo doesn't charge in between. Everyone wins.

    I agree with you graham. I got a AMEX platinum (free for active military) and I spent the minimum requirement for my daily expenses. I even helped my relatives to buy stuff so I can hit my goal since I don't spend a lot. I just don't understand how and why some people don't know how they can't make it. That is always strategy etc. to meet the requirement. Just wait till you need to buy big purchase and get this card and you are golden

    Correct me if I'm wrong. But annual fees are assessed every year, while sign-up bonuses are only given once. So all this "profit" Graham keeps talking about is only profit for the first year. After that the annual fees will quickly overtake any bonus you got at the beginning. And closing credit cards is less than ideal for the sake of your credit score.

      @@kenyagrant1009 This is what most companies do for their sales people. At my company, what ever the sales person is paid back goes against their commission at the end of the year but if this is going to happen anyway then I hope all the sales people are getting credit card rewards for it. The main reason they are paid back rather than having the company credit card to pay for it directly is so their purchases can be approved after the trip but before they are paid back (no chance of having to catch bad spending after the fact and taking that loss). It incentivizes sales people to keep a good trail of all expenses and use it responsibly so they can get paid back.

      Alex Re debt is dumb. By definition you’re spending money you don’t have when using a credit card. The responsible thing to do is simply pay cash for the item and own it. Same goes for car payments, etc

    • @NuclearAbyss

      @@josejoaquingonzales3026 did you read my comment?
      It seems like you didnt.
      Yes debt is dumb, but building credit it's also good.
      I went a long time paying cash for everything. But without credit you can't get things, or get charge ridiculous amounts. Ur point is like saying drinking alcohol is dumb, so just don't do it. Witch it can be, if Ur not responsible . But social drinking is not bad, as long as you don't drive while drunk and do stupid stuff. Same with credit, just because you have a credit line of 2,000 doesn't mean you should use it all on random stuff. Be smart and use the system to Ur advantage. Credit is good but debt is bad, so be smart when using it.
