someone asked about fuel for it, jet engine fuel is similar to kerosene, more refined though, but actually a jet engine will run on just about anything, it will just have higher or lower exhaust temperature's and power output depending on what kind of fuel you put in the tank.
back in the mid sixty's my dad was stationed at Ft. Ord California.
they had really bad floods one year and he was flying search and rescue missions using a UH-1 helicopter.
when they needed fuel and we're not near a airport, they would land on a road near a gas station, shut down and tie the blades up, put wheels under the skids and push the helicopter over to the gas pumps, fill up, push it back out onto the road, untie the blades, restart and take off again, it would even run on diesel fuel

Ok guys this is how it works. It's powered by a jet engine from a Bell Jet Ranger helicopter. It does not work by thrust but by rotating a shaft that drives the wheels. There is a reduction gear but not a transmission.(1 Speed) Also, it does not shoot fire out of the exhaust(afterburner) although the exhaust temperature at idle(20,000 RPM) is 1200 degrees F.
I believe Jay just became the coolest cycle rider ever. Puts a whole new meaning to the term "crotch rocket." Lol.
I was there one Sunday when he showed up on that thing, a few years before this video, about 2006. When he backed in the exhaust blew dust all over peoples bikes. Definitely a cool guy. Nicholas Cage shows up there from time to time too.
I was there one day but not his one when he had this bike there. He had like 25 true Japanese tourist around him and he was so nice to them. As cool as this bike is it's not a good canyon bike. The turbo takes a while to wind up and it also takes a while to wind down.Jay will talk to anyone he is a truly nice man
What turbo? It is a gas turbine engine, very much like a jet engine, just producing shaft power instead of jet thrust. Since it has automatic gearbox responsiveness is not crucial.

ive ridden with him a few times .... had lunch a couple of times,....he had his film crew interview and ride with a some girls (6) on sport bikes ...when that was odd! he and i talked Vietnam one after noon, i never talk that topic except to other v vets.... he is as cool as he seems AND generous with his time and money!

+Murphys Law but does a turboshaft produce jet thrust? because a jet engine is, by definition, an engine that produces a 'jet' of a substance or gas to propel something forward. because a turboshaft uses mechanical energy to turn rotors or in this case, wheels, it's not really a jet engine since it doesn't produce that jet of gas. the same goes for turboprops (save for the very early ones).
but then again, they rely on the same basic layout of a compressor, burner and turbine, so in away it's appropriate.

No jet engine there, "TURBINE engine". A jet engine is a turbine engine with a constricting exhaust cone to accelerate the exhaust gases. Theres no jet of any type associated with that bike.

Alright everybody, This is not a jet bike. Its a motorcycle that has a turbine engine in it. For a motorcycle to be a true jet bike, the exhaust gases would have to be the source for its forward movement. So I do not think there is such a thing out there yet. So all you bike buffs the game is still on for the first true jet bike.

I say a Joey Chitwood motorcycle show in the 1980's and he ran a jet bike at the drag strip by the old Hollywood Sportatorium in Hollywood Florida. It was a cool evening, when he gassed it Flames shot out from the jet engine and it got instantly hot in the stands. Could have been around 1988 I think. Yes there are real jet bikes around and have been for years.

A jet engine is a turbine engine with a restricting exhaust cone to accelerate the exhaust gases for forward momentum. So no, there is no sense of any "Jet" anywhere on that bike
I fail to see how for it to be considered a jet engine, the jet has to be a reacting mass against the air. in the case of this bike, the jet pushes veins which transmit the torque to the wheel. the slowed jet then exits the exhaust. yes, the jet does not thrust against the air to create a momentum change, but it's still there and doing work. the thrust does come from a jet.

No turboshaft engines are all in one. The shaft comes from the engine THEN a transmission.
If I had shitloads of money like he does I'd definitely have one myself. Hell, just starting the damn thing up seems to put people in awe. It does sound very cool though :)
He's also got a jet car which is even louder. Heard the two complaints about that car is the sound and the obvious poor gas mileage.

The bike is wheel driven notice the chain running to a sprocket on the rear wheel.
its a turbo shaft engine so the exhaust turns a turbine and then a shaft to drive a gearbox.
