Of course they’re connected. It’s all about rights that you have and rights that you don’t, and both are present here. You don’t have the right to privacy when you are willingly in public. And you do have the right to keep your personal information and motives private from some self entitled stranger demanding to know who you are and what you’re doing. The phrase “mind your own business” has been around forever and still has great bearing.

The one guy accused you of not being "upright" simply because you wouldn't answer his nosy questions. I guess he is accustomed to having all of his demands satisfied, so you were a big shock to his system. He also called you a "coward"...what a rude man he is.
A lot of nice cars rolling in there and some well dressed people. Seems like an upscale place. I'm surprised nobody freaked out. All in all it went okay. The lady at the end came out with the classic "without our permission" thing. I remember being at a theme park as a kid and seeing a sign that kind of warned folks that there may be commercial cameras and video recording present that day. I’ve definitely seen photo and video release forms like for my kiddo to participate in sports or other activities. So that belief is probably formed organically by many. That’s one reason these videos are so important. Otherwise people might get upset when others happen to catch them in their photos or videos and possibly get violent.
I noticed that none of these folks asked you to come in and enjoy the service!!!!! Most of your audits at churches have at least one person if not more extend the welcome mat out even if they are confused as to what you’re doing. Thanks!!!

Where I live now when folks call you often the first thing they say is "What are you doing?" I usually say "Talking on the phone", but a typical answer is "Not much: what are you doing?" I liked your response "Not much; what's going on with you?" Thumbs up.
The LDS church generally has a two hour block of meetings. Priesthood meeting for the men. Relief Society for the women. Then, Sacrament Meeting for everyone. Some get huge enjoyment out of it. Others find it insufferable and intolerable.

Something you could think about for your comments to people like this would be as follows: we were coming by getting videos of various structures including this church. When people started asking us what we were doing we decided we would stay for a while and see what they were doing. Had they not questioned us and approached us we would have been long gone. Apparently people think that it's our responsibility to tell you what we're doing in a public area.

Usually clowns don't understand this and presume that anyone offering constructive criticism or another way of thinking needs to start videoing on their own. Getting the words right is important as well as good video and I've been told by various auditors that they consider the advice from others helpful.. In many cases the language used not this video withstanding is poorly thought out and that usually leads to LE trying to run over them with ID command etc.

When people start projecting about politics, religion and personal matters, there is a chance that one could lose half of their audience. When someone asks me what I’m videoing for, I ask if they have a list of reasons they approve of. Then I ask why they think they can dictate what reasons are acceptable.
