    Hog fan here. Y’all are a nice team who came to one of THE MOST hostile environments in the country against one of the best teams per ranking in the country with 3 key players out. We had a couple playing that haven’t been practicing much and one key guy out, but all in all both teams now know what to get better on and brought in a TON of cash for a charity event and showed class doing it!

    Arkansas controlled the game from the jump.. Storr and Mayo were very underwhelming, but it is an exhibition game.. bill self didn’t run very many sets, KU didn’t go into the game thinking they need to win, self played lineups he probably wnt consider in the regular season.. Kansas will be fine, Self doesn’t have the team playing its best or even close to it.. Kansas was without 3 players, 2 of which will be starters and also their best player in Dickinson.. turnovers and defense was nonexistent, it was encouraging to see Harris play well offensively, but he struggled big time on the defensively.. Passmore was really good, he has a very bright future, I really liked what I saw from him.. Kansas will be fine, Self and coaching staff will get this team playing its best come conference play..
    Arkansas looked like a final four team.. their two guards Fland and Wagner will be a very good backcourt this season.. they have depth in the front court, depth in the backcourt, they have athletes all over the court and some experienced players as well.. plenty of talent and potential for Arkansas.. they will have a really good season, good luck to Arkansas and all Hog fans!!!

    honestly it seemed to me that Arkansas was out there playing free and we were thinking a lot trying to run a offense guys are not comfortable in trying to find their shots within the offense. sometimes I think Bill just needs to let them play as opposed to trying to run everything thru a specific offense where guys have to over think. A lot of times They look like they don't know if they want to pass or shoot or drive... and on top of tht u got a guy out there tht just takes up space if he isn't 3ft from the bucket.

    Life long Jayhawks fan here. We have serious issues if we are going to try to play 2 non volume shooters (Adams and Harris) around a true 5 (Dickinson or Flory). I know Harris made some shots tonight be his inability to shoot off the bounce allows the defense to go under every ball screen and pay no price. Then you have Adams who cannot shoot without a foot in the paint. Brazile got to play free safety all night and just jam up the paint. I don’t think Dickinson would have made much a difference in this game because their would still be no spacing on the court. Bottom line: this roster is more talented 1-10 than last year’s. This roster is deeper than last year’s. But if we play Adams and Harris around a true center for 30+ min. A night that isn’t different than last year at all. No spacing on the floor will result in inefficient offense and a lot of turnovers just like last year. Just like in this game.

    • @chrisowen3264
      @chrisowen3264 Месяц назад +1

      He definitely needs to limit the time that Harris and Adam’s are on the court together and this year he has that option because of the depth. A good line up honestly would be Harris storr coit Griffen and Dickinson. It’s small but it has scorers in it and if he’s healthy Dickinson is a one man machine inside.

  • @kcore1427

    Didn’t watch the game first hand, but followed the score, but after analyzing the box score, there are areas that I believe that we had an off night in and some that are still major question marks. Mayo and Store struggled this game and heard open looks didn’t fall, but since they have been good in practice according to Self, I think we will get more out of those guys and the offense as a whole than what we saw tonight. However, guarding ball screens is something that seems like a question. Big takeaway: This team needs time to find its identity. My advice for the Jayhawks. Don’t worry too much about the No. 1 team. Just be a fun and entertaining team that will regularly make your fan base feel good.

Obviously not playing your best player puts you behind the big time, and going on the road for a sellout 18k arena in October is going to be a no-win situation most of the time. But the guys who played can't shoot and the portal guys who put up big numbers on bad teams last year look exactly like guys who put up numbers for bad teams but aren't winning players. But im sure Self will figure it out and also looked like both coaches agreed before the game to just run the base offense, so it felt more like a scrimmage than an actual game in that regard.

      The only way this year is different from last year is if we try playing Storr at the 4 and let KJ be a small ball 5 off the bench. Griffen and Passmore could play the 4 as well. But we need players who can actually stretch the floor and open the paint. Look at the players we have played at the 4 in past years: Wilson, Svi in 2018, Jackson in 2017, Ellis, Morris brothers. All of those players could shoot from the perimeter and could get their own shot. KJ simply can’t and he hurts the team because of it. It is easy to defend a team when you don’t have to guard one of their players.

      Depth isn’t the issue. There have plenty of Kansas teams that have far less at the 5 than Dickinson followed by Bidunga. The issue is KJ and Harris play 30+ min a night. They are not skilled and condense the floor. Harris had a good night but historically he passes up open shots. Allows the defense to go under every ball screen because his release is so low and slow. He has trouble turning the corner. KJ completely jams the floor because you do not have to guard him. That’s the issue. For this team to be successful they have to play guys who can shoot bigger minutes to open up the floor and give Dickinson a chance to go 1 on 1 in the paint.

The defense literally can just leave kj out there daring him to shoot and stop anyone else from driving in the paint smh it's sad. If Bill doesn't finally realize we can't have a good offense in modern basketball with kj as our 4, we will def look EXACTLY like last year smh I'm so damn sick of this bull crap

      Completely agree. Harris doesn’t help either because when he and Adams are in the floor we have a relevant shooter and player who cannot shoot without a foot in the paint. His lack of skill severely condensed the floor and allows the defense to jam up the paint. Opposing teams essentially get to play a guy as a free safety who can jam back cuts, dribble penetration, help on post feeds, and check rollers in ball screen offense. Harris needs to be played like what he is, and unskilled super athlete. He need to give 15-20 min tonight as a small buy 5 and just play hard. His lack of skill just condenses and hurts the whole offense.

    I’m hog fan and we haven’t been nearly as good as Kansas in the 21st century overall. Can an experienced Kansas fan give me some true feedback on the hogs. Did they look good or was it really just Kansas not caring about a win here.

      I’d say that you guys are legit this year and the hawks played poorly. The same thing that we’re saying to make ourselves feel better “it’s early and just an exhibition game” is the same thing that should give you a huge smile. You looked that good this early. Arkansas has some stuff to work on too, check out Cal’s press conference from after the game. He breaks it down really well on what Ark needs to work on and didn’t do well during the game.
      But KU wanted to win. Bill doesn’t mind throwing Cal a bone but that team very much tried to win.
