    If you watched this and didn't learn anything you weren't trying. A close up view of a master playing unaccompanied - priceless.

    @Superdry1302 It's a Dukoff Hollywood (he says so in the full DVD) in "something like a 7" b/c apparently chris potter will play whatever he wants and sounds beast on it without regard to little details us sax mortals worry about such as tip openings

    @Jazzman, Thanks for your input...and I tend to agree with you on that topic. The saxophone is a very expressive instrument. And regarding (what do you want?) Shit man, how did you know my birthday was coming up?...I could use a new box of reeds,'Vandoren JAZZ 2's would be nice...
    Take care man, and I'm just enjoying this topic of jazz and the saxophone.

    See that is what I find so confusing...and I agree with you, but then you see someone like Chris Potter play...and he does move his embouchure. I find I have to adjust mine from the top of the horn to the bottom. If I want the bottom to come out loud and strong I have to make a big change with reed pressure, amount of reed in my mouth, and wind pressure too.

  • @rhumbaphone
    @rhumbaphone 13 лет назад

    It's a selmer super balanced action and a link mp with a selmer lig, not that any of that really matters .

  • @TheMorpholog

    Hey guys, I think you give so much importance to the stuffs he uses to play, Selmer that, Dukoff this, Conn bla bla. Think about this: he play good because he studies to play good. I saw people playing whit old and bad saxophones and they played good. The only one secret: a good teacher, and study.

  • @Drinkup5390

    wow, this man is incredible! he is truly the most technically advanced saxophonist as of now!

    @kusanophone now that's what I call self-effacing. A god of the saxophone pretending he might not remember the head. And then what he dies is play the head, but not, but yes, but wtf. Mans a complete genius. Makes me want to die, practise like a monothematic microbe or drink myself stupid.

  • @kchappelle
    @kchappelle 14 лет назад

    Talking about embouchure and whether we need to change it or adjust it as we play all over the horn...Well they don't come any better than Chris when it comes to playing. You can see the profile shots of Chris on this video...man his jaw is constantly moving forward and back and this guy plays all over the horn in big jumps and leaps. So many guys are out there saying you should never change your embouchure, I'm sure they just aren't aware of the fact that they do. I think it's necessary...

  • @Jazzsaxman1

    I personally would love to see him and Redman play together. They are my two favorite living saxophonists :D

    If you can't learn from this video you aren't trying enough. Dig in, write it out, comp over it fifty times, just do some work and don't expect it to be handed to you on a silver platter. Just ask anyone who learned all the old bird solos by hand

      He literally didn't remember the melody!! He never actually played it correctly. Chris Potter has no ego at all and is the nicest most humble guy you could ever meet
