"Swing that bat" has been my life's motto because of Fooly Cooly. It was the takeaway line/message from the show for me, too. My life is where it is now only because I swung the bat. Great video.
This was such a banger. The entire "swing the bat" scene has been tattooed onto my brain, even watching it as a twenty something dumbass it hits hard. Naota is one of the most relatable protagonists from any anime I've ever seen and his struggles are so hyper realized in this drug trip of a show. Sometimes it still feels like a fever dream to think about. FLCL is one of the most artistically beautiful things to come out of the media of anime period.
"Now listen, my name is naota. Don't you ever call me Takkun again!" Is one of the most relatable quotes for me from this classic. Know you're worth and don't settle for being someone's homebase!
Hey man, great work. I really enjoyed this break down of the series. I never thought about the idea that the view is just as confused as Naota and it's okay to be confused.
First time I watched it I think I was ten or eleven and it felt like a fever dream cuz I saw it all loved it and then it just kinda went away and all I had was the pillows to remind me of it until the Internet became a thing and I could rewatch it over and over. It's still my favorite anime even more than Pokemon and Dragonball and I think it's because it's so short and sweet. It's truly perfect
It's normal to not understand anything about FLCL the first time you watch it, it's the way it's made to only give you puzzle pieces for one episode in the next ones. It's only after rewatching it two, three or four times that it let you connect all the dots and make sense of all that seemed like nonsense before. Everything has explanations but it's presented in such a chaotic way that it challenges your intelligence to figure it out.
Oh for sure. My first watch through as a kid was basically just me watching cartoons. But ever subsequent watch as I’ve aged has told me more and more about myself
Same but turning 17, I fear wasting my last two years of my teenage years but after watching FLCL I’m ready to take the initial step because nothing will happen until you swing the bat.
Man thanks so much. I appreciate the kind words. I’m hoping to have new videos out here in the near future. Maybe I’ll finally get my Gurren video out too!
What happened to this video? It's one of my favorites videos ever and I used to watch it every month. But suddenly it disappear, thank you for re upload it. ♥️♥️Sorry for my bad english ,
I'm sorry, I got hit with some copyright strikes on my old channel and had to take down the videos so I wouldn't get banned. Please feel free to download the video in case it happens again, but I've done my best to make my videos safer from copyright stuff. Either way I'm happy that you found me again! P.s. your English is perfecf
I will disagree at 5:50 about Yusuke "always in control". Or competent. Other shows, sure. But Not him. Thats not the theme or message of the show at ALL. He has to grow up BIG TIME.
So serious question as someone who didn't grow up with cable/toonami. Did these 6 episodes just play on repeat more or less, or did they only show it periodically as a special run?
To my recollection it was just a random, every once in a while run. I watched a lot of Adult Swim and Toonami and only ever caught it like once or twice.

Sometimes you just gotta take that chance! I’m proud you swung the bat!
