I kept my name. I was in my 20s when I was married. Divorced in 2021 at age 65 . My identity is that name professionally, socially, and personally. He took so much from me, but he cannot take my name.
Just a reminder that name changes after marriage are deep seated in misogyny, patriarchy, and sexism. You do not have to change your name in the first place. Let's stop condoning this practice and never have to deal with this conversation in the first place.
I didn’t change my name because my daughter was only 10 years old when I got divorced and, I wanted to keep things simple because she was too young to understand. I have since changed my name back to my maiden name!
I decided to keep my married name too, for exact same reasons. All of my degrees, licenses, and professional identity use that name. But I am going to get a signet ring with my maiden name because I was close to my father and it's a way for me to remember where I come from.
I kept my last name. I had it so long, I created a lot under the name. But the most important thing I have sons, and they will always have the name. If I get married again I will be ok with dropping the name. I personally don’t like hyphenated last names. It is definitely a personal choice.
I’ve also had my last name for 30 years and I’m PRETTY sure I will change it in the future. My kids are grown and when I’m ready to tackle the logistics I’ll get it done.
Yes! I decided to change to my maiden name. I too do not find my ex last name a worthy name to carry on. I am a Percell! That is my dad’s name, a name I respect and born with.
I'm in my late 20s, my marriage lasted over a year. Currently in the process of divorce. No kids but during this time I got my degrees with current surname and got more known with this surname. I think I will keep it.
I will like to change my name . I have a 4 years old and a 3 years old who did not think of the impact, but the n trauma of me bearing the name is worth changing it. Thanks for your transparency and knowledge
I kept my name. Didn’t want previous name and I have a child. ❤❤❤
So glad for you
