He reminds me of "Kermit the Frog" with a Brazilian accent... and yes , he is AWSOME to listen to. I would love to get some instruction from someone of his caliber.
I'm 56 in a few months , half way through my purple belt (started at 49) ive got natural strength and steel grips àt 85kg. A few of the young fellows at 100kg have been proving problematic as their games improve, one benchpressed me off a hard fought mount. I have watched Bernardos pressure passing and I think if I can perfect the knee bar while increasing the pressure with his angle change... game over young man . I will drill this at home until the pressure and connection is good . I enjoy your shows and techniques , thank you gentlemen.
I love how excited Bernardo is about everything. It's great. Makes me excited to learn and being 43 and just starting my Jiu Jitsu journey I feel like i can relate to his Technics.
What I really love about this pass, besides how well it works, people don't feel the danger that they're in while you're passing. Otherwise, really good questions from Stephan that will help my game. Thank you!
Good seeing you to together. Im over 50 and these younger guys are tough. I youtube to supplement class teaching. Im learning great stuff i used bjj fanatics Xande ribeiro's diamond defense. Wow it changed my life because a tough opponent didnt tap me out at all last practice. He found my game much more difficult.
This is great! Bernardo is truly the best over-under passer in the world. So many nice details. I'm trying to learn the pass as an in to learning pressure-passing, and videos like these are invaluable!
Love this. All the things that discouraged/stopped my pass!! Thank you. I'm reaching 50 and hope you will consider to build up something--specific skills or adjustments--for oldies like me.
Bernardo is such a pleasure to learn from, and an inspiration. But it does sting a bit to hear a 45 year old described as "old." Am 60 now and blessed to be able to continue to train. Had a new hip put in a couple years back and came back with no restrictions. Honestly I would say that technique is much more limiting than age. That is unless my technique was really much better than it is, I don't really have an excuse not to get better. So still trying to get better, and enjoying the journey.
Stephan missed an opportunity to open with "it's a YUGE honor for me gais". It would've been funny to have Bernardo on the receiving side for a change. And well deserved.
I really like this pass, but against higher belts I've gotten caught in loop choke (in gi) and guillotine (no gi) when diving in for the initial position. Can anyone point me to video showing what I might be doing wrong?
For anyone trying to beat super flexible guys who go upside down and/or can always bring there legs to there head to prevent pass etc. Use This type of pass and anyway you can force half guard for those pass is great to. you have such control of there hips(your whole body is locking them down) and there locked flat back. So shrimping is extremely difficult also those guys use there flexible backs and pelvic area to basically bring there hooks from anywhere. I.E Try to bring your leg over your head flat back. Then get on your opposite hip... For those looking to defend you can push his head the way he's passing but once he tucks his head on opposite hip it's almost over. Theres a few other ways but you really let him get to far into his setup. The best defense then IMO is to post your elbow on mat on the side of his over. Then use it to turn to your knees by Turing towards him as he passes.
Obviously I didn't cover everything. Also sorry for sounding like a know it ...... Just mean giving your weight to strong guy is not the absolute best. Same with giving space to the flexible. Now these rules are easily broken if you technique is on point.
Funny, as a 53 year old blue belt, I was thinking about learning this pass because my standing open guard passing is very bad as I am slower. Looks like something to work on.
Really enjoyed this, being an older guy, hopefully it’ll work for me!,probably a typical white belt question, how do I avoid my opponent guillotining me when I initiate the pass?,any advice would be appreciated
Josenildo now you are talking about stabilizing sidemount rather than passing the guard per se. Some of the tips are to kill the arms, Keep him flat, and block the hip with either your knee, your hand, or some other body parts
Is it me or is Bernardo just fun to listen to? He should do voice overs or something man, lol, you can actually *hear* this guys smile.
He reminds me of "Kermit the Frog" with a Brazilian accent... and yes , he is AWSOME to listen to. I would love to get some instruction from someone of his caliber.
He sounds like such a nice guy, like Marcelo.
He's totally an animated something or other. Bernardo Arm Bar's the Internet.
Perfect! He should be with Jackie Chan on Kung Fu panda!
Kermit the frog, lol
Bernardo's the best. The man always makes me smile when watching his videos.
Yeah he seems so posistive and friendly
What a great person Bernardo.
Everything Bernardo shows work on the mat.
I agree, his stuff is super effective for me too
Beenardo is such cheerful person. It's a pleasure to hear him teach. :)
I know I'm a couple years late to the viewing party, but just want to say THANKS FOR POSTING!

I actually love listening to Bernardo's videos. He's awesome. I wish him the best in life!
same!
His enthusiasm is infectious
I met Bernardo Faria at master worlds and I have to say that he is one of the nicest guys in the sport. Super humble and friendly to his fans.
Epic. I'm 22 and 75kg, but this pass has allowed me to pass the guard of people up to 10kg heavier than me. Thank you!
Ignacio I’m 15 and 58kg so I really need everything I can get especially these techniques from Bernardo
I'm 10 and 40 kg.i have done it to 100 kg guy
I love how excited Bernardo is about everything. It's great. Makes me excited to learn and being 43 and just starting my Jiu Jitsu journey I feel like i can relate to his Technics.

That's gold! Thank you Stephan and Bernardo!
I know I found it super useful!!
Love this. All the things that discouraged/stopped my pass!! Thank you.

Steve your channel is on of my favorites too, your technique works. I loved the street defense series.
Amazing person, Bernardo Faria. Professor Stephen if you find additional opportunities to record video with him, please do! 👍
So simple yet so effective. Thank you, Stephan for bringing us this mini-tutorial.
Great details!
@Stephan Kesting...Love the videos. They have helped me a lot over the years.
This is just gold.

Thank you! The details covered here are exactly the ones I had questions about.
Bernardo seems like a great guy
How does this only have 3 views how long has this been up for whag a shame!👍👍👍
It’s still not officially published! Congrats on finding it first!!
61 yr old here, I love the slower, methodical techniques.
Stephan missed an opportunity to open with "it's a YUGE honor for me gais". It would've been funny to have Bernardo on the receiving side for a change. And well deserved.
"Listen guys, watch my hand, it's going to follow my shoulder, and then slap you in the face." You just read that in Bernardo Faria's voice. ;)
I loved it Stephen. Thank you and Bernardo for this invaluable information 😎
Great tips! I got triangled in a comp for not applying enough pressure and pinning that bottom leg. Never again i will use these tips! ty
Loved the questions you asked!
Great video!
Helpful!!! Thanks Steven and Bernardo!
Another great video. Keep them coming 👍
I really like this pass, but against higher belts I've gotten caught in loop choke (in gi) and guillotine (no gi) when diving in for the initial position. Can anyone point me to video showing what I might be doing wrong?

i really like this bernardo faria ...i mean i really like him like i do i great friend.
Once he starts talking jiu-jitsu, Bernardo really opens up.
Really enjoyed this, being an older guy, hopefully it’ll work for me!,probably a typical white belt question, how do I avoid my opponent guillotining me when I initiate the pass?,any advice would be appreciated
Another great video, how do you get all these bjj greats to spend time with you?
My biggest issue is getting kimura'd from this position. this helped a lot
Awesome
you sick man, i love it lol may i feel that lol
Thanks sir
Ever since I learned the bottom side control triangle, I don't mind guys using the over under pass on me
Don't pass up a chance to go to his seminars, great guy and great coaching
Stephan- any chance you or Ritchie will be slumming down south of Seattle for the Rev in March?
Can the open curtain move be done no gi?
"Slow, old and injurred." Oh- yeah, this is the technique for me!
Thank you for the video, Stephan
What should i do if my opponent block my body with his arms and replace the guard after i pass his guard?

What would you change when you apply this technique in Nogi?
highsoflyify Here you go sir: ruclips.net/video/rljiPRwM1Oc/видео.html
Stephan Kesting
Thank you very much :)
No wonder my over under pass sucks... thanks gunna take this one
Giuuuuuje ONNER for miiiiii
"works for old guys"...SOLD!
👍
Would be nice to see this pass with no gi !!!
Oss.
Passing Gi vs No Gi is different you have grips on his pants how about no Gi vs no Gi?
I bet getting pressure passed by bernardo would feel like getting run over by a bulldozer
What gi is Bernardo Faria wearing, and is the symbol on it a guy grappling with...a killer whale?
Thank you
