You do such wonderful work. Thank you! This little dog was so cheerful to be cared for by you. Do I believe that the owners were really afraid to take her to a groomer? I don't know. (People cannot explain their fears, but this may have been real.) The good thing is that you did not judge them but gave their dog the care she needed, and they can resume taking her regularly to their groomer (or to you perhaps). The dog behaved so well when bathed and dried that I do believe that she had regular care in the past.
I understand that following surgery, the owner may be concentrating on getting his dog back to normal and good muscle tone etc. I can also understand that the dogs surgery may have cost a lot and his owners struggling to pay for pampering.. There are two sides to the reasons of poor care.... Somewhere between the two is the truth. What I don't understand is how clean his fur/skin is at skin level.... Why bathe and not brush. That makes you think of lazyness or even lack of knowledge. Thank you for taking him into your 'free' groom programme. You made him free, clean and comfortable with big hugs at the end x
Buy a large piece of land, fence it in and build a large shed. That's a dog rescue. See Takis in Greece for a top of the line private shelter. Your government should be doing that. Every town should have one. I always say if you don't take care of your animals, you probably also don't take care of your children be they in public care or at home. One hand washes the other...❤❤

I understand that they always had her groomed regularly but because of the way the vets would handle the hair on their leg for the operation they don’t think pretty they think functional and by the time the dog was aloud to be normal the coat was behind her normal routine and I can understand that they would think people would not understand and look down so yes I am glad that you helped them and their Dog Star looking better ❤

I think it is partly neglect. I understand that her owner loves her and wanted to give her injured leg time to heal. But to not get her groomed because of it costing more...well he saved money by not taking her for scheduled grooms, so it all ends up to be about equal. I say neglect because her nails were TERRIBLE. It takes nails a while to get that long. So, shame on him for that. But there was a reason he got so sidetracked and I'm glad you've helped him. Hopefully he will take better care of her going forward. She's such a sweet, lovely girl.
There is alot to unpack here. 1) I say bad on the owner for not clipping the nails. 2) I say good on the owner for bathing. 3) I say good on the owner for keeping the dog free of ticks and fleas. 4) I say the owners are allowed ignorance for not brushing. BUT, they could have still tried to brush it knowing it was getting long. 5) I say bad on the owner for not talking with the groomers to see what could be done after surgery to slowly bring the dog back into regular grooming over time. Maybe, a nail trim and scissor trim with no mechanical items involved. Or, a simple trim with the mechanical items and a nail cut no bath. All owners are not aware of how groomers are willing to work with them. But, overall, bad owners. They could have done more research and talked to the groomers.
I believe that while she was recovering from the accident, she didn't brush her or took him to the groom because she was afraid to hurt him, and meanwhile the dog got matted. Thanks for helping the dog and the owner. Or maybe she didn’t know how to treat the dog and started to watch videos and found out that the dog shouldn’t be matted.

Yes, I'd would groom this poor dog for free and get her back on a regular grooming schedule.This would reduce the stress on the owner and of course the dog would feel so much better with a good groom. Use a flea comb to remove the dirt under her eyes while bathing her in the tub. Also, the hair around the dog's mouth and under it should have been shaved before the bath. You would have been able to clean her face and eyes much better. But all in all this lovely pup looks so much better now that she's been groomed. She a little sweet heart. Lets hope now the owners get her on a regular grooming schedule so she never looks like she did before her groom with you today. Thanks for all you do for these poor dogs.
Understandable yes justified? Never!!!! Letting the poor dog suffer with the mats because he couldn't deal with the shame?? The pain he caused his dog by letting it get this bad is inexcusable. And bathing only makes the matting worse is you don't dry and brush straight after so hopefully you can educate this dog owner about that. Great job guys as always ❤
How about giving away shavers and brushes to those you think will use them. Shavers are easy to handle. My dogs and me always used the same dollar store cordless shaver.

After being hit by a car and going into surgery, I can sympathize with them not wanting to traumatize the dog further if she did not want to go anywhere. Now that the cute doggy has recovered mentally, she should become a regular customer again.

One of the nicest things about being used to a groomer is that the pet becomes wisely docile.
