My parents saw The Cure live when I was in my mum's belly and they named me after this song and I was born the same year the album Wish came out, 1992. This amazing song makes me very emotional and proud of my name 🥰
Somehow I feel "A letter to Elise" is the gifted daughter of "Pictures of you" both songs are amazing, deep and awesome. Thank you The cure for this eternal gift.
I've been a massive fan of the Cure since I was 15 in 1996. I always said if I had a daughter I would call her Elise, after this song. I'm now 41 and I have a daughter and her name is Elise and I couldn't be more proud ❤
I listened quite often this song when I was younger, about my 17, 18 years. Now, I am 29 years. Life passes like thunder. I had an Elise, once, and it has passed away as well... Now you are 25 years old. How many things you thought couldn't be more than that? In the end, "There is nothing we can do, at all".
Elise Schipper I know you are a lot older now and by god YOU hit the cure at there peak it blows me away this song always will peace and love to ya family in These troubled times x
As I walked into my dark bedroom and layed on my bed and had the radio tuned into the only alternative music station on AM in Phoenix, AZ, The Cure's 'A Letter To Elise' came on. The last single from their album 'Wish'. As I laid there in the darkness, I strangely reminisced about my life. It was the end of my adolescence. And my life as I knew it changed drastically after that November night in 1992. Thank you to The Cure for another major bookmark in my life. It couldn't have been done by a better song and band.
A Letter to Elise is a letter to everyone and everything you miss and love/ed that you just cannot possess/have/be with any more nor do you quite want/need to but a part of you still kinda does?!❤
There’s a simple Portuguese term for that: Saudade! It’s a lovely & fitting term to describe what you just described, but you can’t go back to that time or person or feeling. I often think about those things, but try not to let them consume my time.
U2 can perform magic too. Of course, their type of music is quite different from the Cure but both bands have some magical music. U2 has uplifting inspiring music. The Cure has the sad emotional emo music
I dedicated this song to my cat on his last day of life, he was fighting an incurable disease, it was one of the hardest experiences of my life to let him go. Whenever I heard this song, the lyrics seemed to speak to me, I didn't know how to express what I was feeling at that moment but this song seemed to say it all. Since then, whenever I hear it I miss my little friend so much. This song is very special to me.
I had a gf named Eliza (which is kind of the same but in Spanish). I couldn't make her eyes to catch fire the way they should, and I couldn't stay, just as the song says. I remember her with a lot of love and I wish the best for her. I have not heard anything about her on the last 15 years but I hope she is doing great. I played this song for her once, she loved it. And every time this song is played on the radio or RUclips, it brings me all those good memories. I'll never forget her.
So an underrated song. I wish it had more appreciation. Lyrics are so deep and timeless, you could hear it in a hundred years and still will be dedicated to all that relationships that fail.
Amanda unfortunately a lot of people I'd say most people are not as deep as us and will not be able to appreciate the meaning of the song or understand the words.......
My name is Elise and when I found this so I was so suprised that there was a song with my name. When I was listening to the song it brought me back to the time my mother played this song... I love this so much
Had a huge crush on this girl Fiona. One day i asked her what her favourite band was, she said The Cure. I went and bought live Forrest Charlotte Sometimes was great....while i never won her love and heart i did find The Cure. I was about 15yrs old now im 58.
I love this song. Melancholy, yet beautiful. Some dreams are just that: a dream. And meant to be let go of, unfortunately, as much as it may hurt to do so.
0:29 [Chorus] Oh, Elise it doesn't matter what you say I just can't stay here every yesterday Like keep on acting out the same The way we act out Every way to smile, forget And make-believe we never needed Any more than this Any more than this 1:08 [Verse] Oh, Elise it doesn't matter what you do I know I'll never really get inside of you To make your eyes catch fire The way they should The way the blue could pull me in If they only would, if they only would At least I'd lose this sense of sensing Something else that hides away From me and you, there are worlds to part With aching looks and breaking hearts And all the prayers your hands can make Oh, I just take as much as you can throw And then throw it all away Oh I'll throw it all away Like throwing faces at the sky Like throwing arms round yesterday I stood and stared Wide-eyed in front of you And the face I saw looked back the way I wanted to But I just can't hold my tears away the way you do Elise, believe I never wanted this I thought this time I'd keep all of my promises I thought you were the girl I always dreamed about But I let the dream go And the promises broke and make-believe ran out 3:22 [Chorus] So, Elise it doesn't matter what you say I just can't stay here every yesterday Like keep on acting out the same The way we act out Every way to smile, forget And make-believe we never needed Any more than this Any more than this 3:48 [Outro] And every time I try to pick it up Like falling sand As fast as I pick it up It runs away through my clutching hands But there's nothing else I can really do There's nothing else I can really do There's nothing else I can really do At all

I met the guys backstage in Nashville after the Curioso festival. The kindest, sweetest guys you will ever meet. Robert was sipping on a Corona. I was so nervous to talk to him. He was so kind. He told me David Bowie was his influence. Early David Bowie. I will always remember that. Thank you Robert for all the great music.
Robert was one of many who played with David Bowie for his 50th birthday at MSG in 1997. They did Bowie's "Quicksand" together. Always had mutual respect for each other.
I'm on a total Cure binge tonight, started out with Oasis since I'm desperately trying to get tickets far too late. Just Like Heaven came up on my playlist and I never went back.

A song about a couple who no longer love each other but stay together in the hope that they can rekindle what they once had but knowing its over. Neither can bare to be apart from the other but both know its time to move on. This IS the Cure's best song. "And the face I saw looked back the way I wanted to" The narrator is saying in the letter everything he/she is too scared to say to elise in person even though you can bet Elise has has written the same letter 1000 times herself. They'll both be sad remembering happiness
The Cure has so many songs that are just so captivating. A Letter To Elise is no exception. It's among my favorite Cure songs. So many memories this song brings. I was 16 in 1992 when the album was released. The bass, the lead guitar, the drums, everything just perfect in this song ☺️☺️☺️.
Preciosa. Sencillamente genial y absolutamente maravillosa. Que sensibilidad posee Robert a la hora de cantar, para mi es la mejor banda del mundo. The cure for ever.
the best band ever and their greatest song.. the sadness behind this is what makes it so good... A relationship where the love ran away a long time agoo but both parties cling on to the hope that what they once had might one day come back... The letter write is admitting the truth that it never will but still not walking away... what a fantastic song Writer Robert is...
i can say that this is one of the songs of my life. I don’t know why, but I can’t never get enough❤️ and it doesnt matter how much time it passes until i hear it again, it will always be my song💖 thank you, Robert
Beautiful song. Something about the last three guitar notes ringing out into the void gives such a nostalgic kick to the early 90's when I was growing up; reminds me of my childhood days of innocence and wide emotion.
When you loose some one as described in this song, one is forever listening to it. And there is nothing else I can really do but to listen to this song over and over.

I thought you were the girl I always dreamed about
But I let the dream go
And the promises broke and make-believe ran out

But there's nothing else I can really do
There's nothing else I can really do
There's nothing else I can really do

The way the blue could pull me in
If they only would
If they only would
At least I'd lose this sense of sensing
Something else that hides away
From me and you there're worlds to part
With aching looks and breaking hearts
And all the prayers your hands can make
Oh I just take as much as you can throw
And then throw it all away
Oh I throw it all away
Like throwing faces at the sky
Like throwing arms round
Yesterday, I stood and stared wide-eyed in front of you
And the face I saw looked back the way I wanted to
But I just can't hold my tears away the way you do
Elise believe I never wanted this
Thought this time I'd keep all of my promises
Thought you were the girl I always dreamed about
But I let the dream go
And the promises broke
And the make-believe ran out
So Elise it doesn't matter what you say
I just can't stay here every yesterday
Like keep on acting out the same the way we act out
Every way to smile forget and make-believe
We never needed any more than this
Any more than this
And every time I try to pick it up like falling sand
As fast as I pick it up
It runs away through my clutching hands
But there's nothing else I can really do
There's nothing else I can really do
There's nothing else I can really do at all

Is beutifull....🎶🎶
😂
the best band ever and their greatest song.. the sadness behind this is what makes it so good... A relationship where the love ran away a long time agoo but both parties cling on to the hope that what they once had might one day come back... The letter write is admitting the truth that it never will but still not walking away... what a fantastic song Writer Robert is...
I named my daughter after this song. She's 16 years old now and loves The Cure ❤

Beautiful song.
Something about the last three guitar notes ringing out into the void gives such a nostalgic kick to the early 90's when I was growing up; reminds me of my childhood days of innocence and wide emotion.
Seeing them in 2 weeks, years later than i should have. So excited.
Ach tie roky 80 te👌🙂. Zbožňujem obdivujem. This music makes me happy. The Cure FOREVER❤️❤️
Hello, How are you doing? It’s nice seeing you here
When you loose some one as described in this song, one is forever listening to it.
And there is nothing else I can really do but to listen to this song over and over.
OH GOD, I'M IN LOVE WITH THISS SONGGGGGGGG 💐🖤
