The names are what got my attention, I bought however because of the quality! Ok, I bought the Loki because of the name, even my wife likes it, she has no clue what its for so it works out!
The company got its name while Jason Stoddard (the founder) was still working on some prototype designs in his garage before the company started selling products. He told his wife that he was going out the garage to work on some sh-t. His wife said "you are always working on sh-t" so you should name your company "sh-it". So that this what he ended up doing, but of course he had to spell it differently. All products are designed and assembled in CA or TX. All of the products seem to be named after Norse mythology, which I guess Stoddard knows something about.
I'm late, as usual. Great video, Ron - thanks for the review and humor! I am now the proud and pleased owner of a Schiit Mani 2 phono stage & the Freya Noval pre-amp. I've been to a number of high end audio shows and heard much of the big, expensive stuff, but when I get home and listen to my Schiit, it still pleases me a LOT.
Took the dive into the Freya + recently. No regrets. Took 4 hours of burn in to open up. If you're on a budget and the + is out of reach, I think you will be thrilled with the Freya S if buffer mode with the + is any indication of sound quality. Both tube and buffer mode on the Freya + have a great soundstage with a lot of depth, with tube mode just a little bit more. I'm running the Freya + into two Vidars as mono-blocks. The speakers are a pair of old Infinity RSII's, an open back, with "sub woofer" design bottom end.
Dude just bought my first Vidar on EBay. Will be looking for a second and a Freya + for the front end. Your video hit the spot and reinforced the thought on this equipment its price to performance ratio. Look forward to the full review. Great job as always!!!
Thank you Ron for the review. Very helpful. I'm waiting for my taxe return to get my hands on a Freya + preamp and 2 Vidar amps. Can't wait to ear them on my Martin Logan Aeon-i.
Great assessment Ron. I'm a big Schiit Audio devotee. They have made me love digital which I used to not... they give you clarity and resolution as expected, but with a smooth, liquid quality that is so easy on the ears and MUSICAL. The Aegirs are amazing. Also love my Mjolnir 2 and Gungnir Mulitbit. I really have zero complaints. Can recommend without reservations.
I love your comment about the burnin. I just purchased the Freya+ as my main pre amp in my two channel set up. At 10 hours those tubes literally tripled in soundstage and imaging…. Paired with Emotiva XPA-2 amp and 2007 B&W 604 series 3 towers. BLISSFUL COMBO.

Enjoyed the review as always. How did that combo sound with the Buchardt S400s? Unfortunately that combo is a little out of my price league as I need speakers too. Thinking of the Saga + single tube as the pre and Vidar class A/B amp with Buchardt S400.
Totally agree. I have the less expensive version, single Vidar with Saga S. From Passive to JFET Buffer, it is definitely louder and more punch to the sound.
Hi Derek, I took the advice of Thomas & Stereo and bought a pair of the Polk Audio 703 LSIM. These are now under $600 as compared to their original price of $1,400 when first introduced 5 years ago. These are full range 3-way speakers, good open higher end and very solid bass. Had a 20 year old Yamaha A-500 integrated amp before. I thought these speakers sounded OK with that, but 100% improvement with the Schiit setup. Amazing difference! Looking to buy the KEF R3 when I can save up more money.
Ron you’ve created a “Schiit” storm😂 I own the Mani and love the it. I wish they sent you the Vidar amps. I wonder what the bump in power would add to the sound. For anyone interested, I put a Modi Multibit in the hi-fi a while back and, ESPECIALLY considering it was practically free (I think it was $250-300?), it is OUTSTANDING. I've got a pair of Vidars and the Freya. 90% of the liquid and transparent sound with 400 Watts @8ohms instead of 80 with 10 biased to class A. I am driving Maggie1.7is and enjoying impressive dynamics clarity and the most solid bass I have ever got out of the 1.7s. I have tried other amps,ParasoundA21, Emotiva XPA2, and an old Ampzilla. they come close but not quite with one caviot. throw out Schitts shit power cables. they work fine with 12g but the maybe 16 g crap that comes with them chokes them to death. Expect a month of running before they burn in and leave them powered up because they are cold blooded.
Ska-eet? No. It's pronounced Shit! Why? Because the name is a play on a old Norse word. The history behind their name is awesome. Jason was to busy building his company and when his wife wanted to do anything he would say. "I'm sorry honey but I got shit to do." Out of frustration she exclaimed "why don't you just call you company shit then!" And the rest is history. I will watch full video tomorrow but so far you got a new sub out of me.
Are you sure the DAC is fully balanced? The site just lists balanced output as a new addition,. The balanced DAC is the next one up the line, the Gungnir...
I own 2 pieces of Schiit: gungnir multi bit dac and mjolnir tube amp and they really are that good. Tube rolling is another way to shape the sound depending on the genre of music and your mood. There's alot of nos tubes out there.
Currently have a Jotunheim with the AK4490 dac and a Hel. Both are pretty nice for what you pay. I went with the sigma-delta DACs since the multibit (R2R) DACs aren't measuring as well and are more expensive. I think you have to pay a LOT of money to get an excellent measuring R2R DAC (i.e. Holo Audio).

FWIW, I'd posit the appropriate A/B with this is one Aegir in stereo vs. the 2 in bridged mono as you've done. Historically many amplifiers do not sound better in bridged mono than in stereo (for various reasons), but some amplifiers really do sound better. Here the matter is complicated more than regular by the fact that in stereo the amp puts out 20 wpc, which is in no way "flea powered" but certainly scrapes the bottom acceptability factor for many listeners with lesser efficient loudspeakers. So I'm really curious to hear a comparison between those two set-ups, to get your thoughts on what you hear. Thanks Ron.

hi hows the amp aegir compared to the firstwatt sound? Let me guess that immediacy of class a is there? and i guess firstwatt amps have more cleaner and smoother sound"
lol I was kind of annoyed until 7:05 - that seriously made me laugh
Thanks for hanging in there man
Hey Ron , Man i been on the fence and fustrated , I have been working 7 days a week no days off since Xmas , so i saved alot of over time money ,And i don't know what to do , I need your opion heres my choices are a SANSUI Au-11000 Peachtree 220 integrated Schiit Freya plus or Pioneer SX-980 , Rotel 1570 integrated, man I have several amps I just wanna cover a more wider range for budget speaker reviews What would you pic ? All are in very good shape ! Thanks Ron appricate all your and Dannys help and the shout out you gave me meant alot to me 😆
Very good and helpful!
Any plans on reviewing the Vidar in the future? Would love to hear your thoughts on that same setup just switching amps
Thanks! I'm pretty sure I'm going to go that route. Would have never thought the power cables would have been an issue. Thanks for the tip
Nice skit on the Schiit 😂
Yes I want to know more about Continuity!
What is buffered mode on preamp mean?
tube upgrade will improve the sound of this pre amp too,
post chit chat, product views, music clip playlist please. Enjoyed and pronunciation fun, despite I knew what was going on.
Love to hear from Schiit
not the first time you said their name right, I shit myself hahahahha Dang you Ron
Are the left and right channels reversed? The song Let it all out on me seems reversed.
Thanks for pointing that out, if it is reverse it was certainly by accident
Ska-eet? No. It's pronounced Shit! Why? Because the name is a play on a old Norse word. The history behind their name is awesome. Jason was to busy building his company and when his wife wanted to do anything he would say. "I'm sorry honey but I got shit to do." Out of frustration she exclaimed "why don't you just call you company shit then!"
And the rest is history.
I will watch full video tomorrow but so far you got a new sub out of me.
Welcome aboard
Thanks for the history, but it seems that you didn’t even go 10mins into this video before commenting. 😀
It would be great if you included your music list for this video.
Are you sure the DAC is fully balanced? The site just lists balanced output as a new addition,. The balanced DAC is the next one up the line, the Gungnir...
Now that you ask, no I’m not sure it’s fully balanced. I’ll dig around!
Love how you made Shit Fun 💩💩💩💩💩 @New Record Day 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Norwegian....... I'll be laughing Every time I see a Schiit product now .
You've got a new subscriber today . Paul in the UK 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Welcome aboard
We would love to hear from the engineers and how it's better!
Schiit, man, doesn’t even know how to pronounce the company name. But we venerate the Holy Schiit.
Good commentary. However, I'm a little disappointed that Schiit wasn't trying to develope a speaker system with them and had sent prototypes.
and i believe you still have the firstwatt amps before ty
Ron trolling YT to avoid demonitization. :D Ska-heet hahahhahaha
Thanks Brozilla!
Ron, I am enjoying the new direction of your channel. To be completely honest I missed the Channel as it was in your episode about the .7s, I know it took a long time to put together; however, in the last week or two I am seeing that Ron come back + the new channel. This combination of the new and old style is taking you in a very sustainable direction, that will deliver the detail and suspense!!!!
That means the world to me thank you so much
I know this is RUclips, but I am hearing some very nice sounds indeed over my AKG K702 headphone system - using a Schiit DAC!
Ska-heet. Lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The sad thing is you actually had me for the first five minutes💩
I'm sure the two Ska-heet founders had a nice laugh! I know I did! Being eaten out of house and home, wait until the teenage years.Take care Ron and family!
Appreciate you Alpha!
Scat?
New favourite audio channel - honest commentary presenting pros AND cons. Just curious, did you notice any noise issues with the Freya+ (beyond the tube noise)? I’ve had some grounding issues with it in my system...
Thank you and welcome aboard! I’ll do a lot of listening during the evaluation. But so far I haven’t heard any noise at all outside of typical tube noise. I’ll be sure to pay attention and keep you posted!
Had to go delete my comment about being annoyed by you calling it skaheet lol. Now I’m glad you did. It’s so damn lame and corny listening to people joke about the name.
Nice vid. I keep hearing nothing but good about Schiit. I think when cash flow allows me I will be getting some also. The Vidar looks good. The one thing I hear a lot of bitching about is their power switches being on back. Well I could care less. It still sounds good
Shi-tah it’s on their website :)
