- This video comes as an answer to a question I received on www.rowing.zone, where you can reach at my handle @ aram
How far should you lean back at the finish. What is enough, what is too much, how much to lean back when and what is even more important than the lean back itself.

Thank you very much for your videos, they're greatly helpful
I use the hollow body. The same posture I use for all of my explosive sports
another great video
Thanks a lot ♥, please make a video about how to breathe in different rhythms cause i have big problem with that
Okay, I have just put it on my list
Best beginner tip that I can give, that works extremely well and tbf most people don't need more then this, is the following. The body has a very well automated system for breathing which unless you have practiced an effective rhythm, it is probably much better at breathing automatic then you could do manually. It is however quite easy to give this automatic breathing an effective boost to get the most out of it. Instead of trying to control the rhythm via controlled and timed inhales and exhales, which requires practice and a lot of brain capacity, just focus on exhaling and let inhaling automaticly occur because the lungs want to fill themselfs up again. The focus on exhaling is just a strong exhales which empties the lungs effectively without overdoing the duration of the exhale. Basicly just exhale strongly and forget about the rest.
one way that helps me is to just make sure you're exhaling at the finish. the more you try and complicate it the worse it gets. so if you just focus on the one moment your body fills in the blanks.
love the vids
People often lean back a long way in an attempt to lengthen their stroke. What usually happens is that they still finish at the same place anyway. There is no place to push the handle into because the body is in the way.
Thanks heaps, Aram! Any chance you could make a video focused on how to avoid opening up too early during the drive and keeping arms straight with shoulders forward? I know this gets mentioned previously, but a dedicated one would be fantastic 👍Cheers!
I will put it on my list
With full respect , you talked a lot but you never answered the question about this layback, what about Mike Spracklen boats, Mike Teti
Boats, British women , and the Tom Terhaar boats , they rowed with exaggerated layback and they were fast. This long layback can be useful as long as there is pressure on the footboards and the blades are in the water.
With full respect, have you watched the full video?
Unfortunately I did
If you had, then you would habe gotten my point: lean back is good and helpful provided you have a stable core. If not, work on that first.
Look, everybody has different levels of background knowledge. I have got to explain basics first, otherwise they would not be able to follow.
Your unfriendly comment is unfair
You are on a motorboat trying to correct mistakes. You have to tell the athlete what he has to do now, that’s what he expects from you. He doesn’t expect to be told you have to develop your core. That’s additional info. I am just a simple coach and I think how to help the athletes . So, anyone who has a different opinion is unfriendly?
