Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. I keep trying different things at the catch, and even though it feels best or "right" when I have my shoulders relaxed and they move forward at the catch (as you suggest), I had nothing to confirm this intuition before this video.

Relaxing the elbows and shoulders on the recovery has been a game changer.
One thing that I have done which is different from all the coaching I have received is for me the start of my stroke is at the finish/release. I focus on being relaxed and having a good recovery to prepare for the catch. I have found in the boat that the time to put a bad stroke behind you and start a good stroke is at the finish. Most coaching has the start of the stroke be the catch. To me that neglects the importance of the recovery and getting prepared to catch and drive well.
Thanks for all you do Aram!!!

Hi Aram, 3:42 as someone who slipped one of their discs recently I'd be very interested in hearing the video about sciatic nerve pain.

Great insight, advice and explanation as usual - now to remember that and drill it into my rowing as stuffed with improving on a linear erg! 😎

I was listening to this while I out for a walk, not watching your visual demonstration (eyes forward!), which then made me think of the blind competitive rowers/scullers that I know and how they are missing out on all the online coaching videos. I don't think that it would take a lot of verbal narration of your physical demonstration to communicate with this portion of our rowing community. Your videos can be so helpful and I would love to know that anyone can access them.
