I laughed about iced tea mix in cold-weather rations, but then I realized you could probably use the mix to make hot tea if you wanted. It's just instant tea.

Cool video. There is a surplus store not too far from me that had large squad meal tins... Not sure how old they were but one of the offerings was BBQ Ribs... If they still have these things, I'm buying one and sending it off to you. Would love to see this large tin cracked open and the ribs reviewed.

I've had a bunch of mre's from '93 and I know exactly what you mean by how amazing thoe oatmeal cookie bars are. Granted I had the rectangle ones not the flattened out ones
A dessert like compressed food bar is available at walnart stores in the camping section, called emergency food ration bars and its an Apple cinnamon vitamin cookie brick that basically tastes like apple pie crust and the whole unit has six segments totaling 2400 calories. It is pretty dang good, I tried it and my husband has added one whole unit to his daily diet plus 3 meals to gain weight and it is working, in less then a month he has really gotten bigger, he is about 170 no fat like a ufc fighter and wants to get back up to 200 he burns so many calories he cant keep weight up without serious calorie intake and these things actually have a bunch of vitamins in them too. They are worth checking out, made by UST - mayday industries. About 5$ a unit.
I think the cold weather rations are some of the coolest, there's always so much good stuff in them.

I searched on ebay for "MRE" and I got a lot of results for these.
Always be careful when searching on EBay though, a lot of people are usually ill informed about storage and reading date codes. I've seen people try to pass off pre 1990 meals as "fresh" or "new".
1990 is considered "fresh" in this channel's standards ;)
