I thought the title was "Ballad of the Cloneasaurus". Leading to a rather long, and detailed rant by Apu wondering what rock Skinner had been under the previous year.
Wait... BEANSTALK? OH MY GOD! So I'm not crazy that really was a movie. As a kid I vividly remember watching that movie o Nickelodeon one afternoon. But when I went to try and rent it, I couldn't for the life of me find it. I tried describing it to the store clerk but he told me it didn't exist and kept directing me to the Mickey Mouse one. But I knew it wasn't that one but we went home empty handed every time I went looking for it. For years people told me it didn't exist but I knew it did. Thank you so much Cecil for this great gift 20 years in the making. 😁
you got spoiled, watching your fill, wherever and whenever, eyes bulging fat, videos that took forever to make you watched in mere minutes... now you gotta wait. sucks doesnt it?
I always saw the trailer for this film on one of my old VHS tapes. I always thought memory of that being some sort of Mandela Effect kinda of thing. I'm glad to see I was wrong.
I only remember seeing clips of this on those old ads on my vhs with rock around the clock playing. Never knew what it was or the name. You just solved a 20+ year mystery
God, I LOVED this film when I was a kid, it so silly, but was just a great ride with these little Dinosaurs, and I couldn't believe how many Sequels came out! REMOTE was also a great movie👍
Can't watch it right now but I've been super stoked to see these Moonbeam classics recently. I was raised pretty poor so we had most of the Band films on VHS. The greatest ripoffs ever made. Literally just watched Phantom Town last night too.
I grew up watching all three of Carnosaur, Prehysteria, and of course Jurassic Park. Boy its good to love dinosaurs. Thank you so much for giving Prehysteria the attention it deserves.
pterodactyl is a Pterosaur, not a dinosaur, Pteranodon sternbergi to be exact and a male to. The horned one is not a Styracosaurus. Its a Chasmosaurus. Its funny that all these animals are from vastly diffrent time periods. like the brachiosaurus and the stegosaurus is 80 million years older than the Tyrannosaurus rex. I remember seeing the VHS at the rental stores and i so wanted to see it. i never did how ever. also it be swell to own some of those puppets. they are insanely well crafted.
You beat me to it. Although "Pteranodon sternbergi" is a name that some members of the paleontological community are trying to phase out in favor of "Geosternbergia sternbergi", after the skull structure underwent review and P. sternbergi got its own genus. That was about a decade ago, but the new genus hasn't entirely caught on. Decades under that name, followed by a fairly radical recategorization over a few minor skull deviations is a hard thing to push. But I agree on those puppets and models. I believe I first saw the movie after checking it out at the public library, and was absolutely enamored with the idea of owning one. That was a few decades ago, and I'm still impressed by their detail.
I saw this movie once, it was like a dream, I think this was the catalyst for a life of dinosaur passion, if not an addative. Edit: the Styracosaurus is actually Chasmosaurus.
One of those weird movies that I absolutely adored as a kid, but I think I never owned it.. just chronically rented it from Blockbuster. This, Jurassic Park, We're Back -- 8 year old me loved the variety. Give me realism, give me anthropomorphism, give me cute escapist fantasy (YES I would like some miniature dinosaurs). I haven't seen this in so long, but learning about the effort that went into it, its success, and seeing the clips has me getting kind of weepy. What a wonderful movie! What a great time to be a kid! So happy to see you cover this!
I remember going to Blockbuster as a kid and watching Prehysteria, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, and other stuff from there. I miss those times, so nostalgic lol
Dragging up my childhood on this one! This is why your channel remains as one of my favorites. I remember renting it specifically because of the Jurassic Park hype. Your research is so well done on these films there's no reason that you shouldn't have your own network television show. You're that good! I'll keep spreading the word on your channel. #Goodbadflicks forever!
Oh, so Prehysteria was a case of someone anticipating a Spielberg hit and getting ready to ride the wave of upcoming dinosaur mania. That was so damn smart. Props to them for being strategic. I was one of those kids who had my mom renting this series all the time. 😅 Also Pet Shop and Dragonworld. Pet Shop eventually went up for sale at Blockbuster so we bought it. Sadly i no longer have it. Moonbeam really did have good kid movies ❤
OMG I saw this movie as a kid on Disney Channel and I loved it so much. I just forgot the name of the movie for so long. Thank you so much for making this, now I need to find a copy of this movie.
I was a huge dinosaur nut as a kid, and I loved this film so much, it was exactly the sort of thing I would have wanted! Plus, the 'cute thing in jeopardy' plotline is an easy-win with kids. I haven't heard anyone make a peep about this film in forever, it's nice to see it brought up again!
I remember Prehysteria! My dad rented it for us, when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade, but I had forgotten most of what happened in the film, till I saw this video. I never knew that this film was a product of Full Moon! Cecil, would you ever consider doing an exploring episode over Slaughter High? That one has an interesting back story to it, & sadly, it doesn't get the props it deserves.
Grew up loving the moonbeam movies. parents would put me in front of them and I would sit for hours just watching them, growing older my appreciation for moonbeam and full moon helped shaped my tastes for years.
I had forgotten all about this movie. I remember loving it as a kid. I actually saw a lot of the movies off of the Moonbeam line. I definitely need to see this again. Thank you!
Wow, talk about a blast from the past. As kids my sister and I used to rent Prehysteria and it's sequels (also Pet Shop) all the time from our local video store. Decent kids movie with solid FX.
I remember when this came out. Watched it I don't know how many times with my little brother. Always loved Elvis the T-Rex. Cutest damn dinosaur ever ^_^
This reminds me when they had low budget weekends on TV, saw this movie there, along with a movie about a kid who learns that the legend of a gator homaoid creature in the swamp was real, but he wasn't a monster, but a type of nature spirit that watched over the swamp and it's animal
When I was a kid I had a neighbor who worked at a Full Moon distribution place so I actually got to see this and lots of stuff I probably shouldn't have yet. But I loved this Movie
Watched all the Full Moon movies as a kid and loved them all especially the cheesy kids ones. A video store i rented from would do 10 for $10 weekends on none new release vhs and that's how i saw most of them.
Outstanding again, Cecil. Seeing that Blackbuster store front, maybe something a little different one of these days like a mini-documentary focusing on "The Rise and Fall of Bloackbuster Video."

Carnosaur. And I remember Siskel seeing the flick being reviewed on Siskel , and Ebert's show. Siskel loved Diane Ladd's performance in Carnosaur quite well. Saw the show on the night of my Nineteenth birthday as I recall.
Great video. "Prehysteria!" seems awesome. I think i saw the VHS cover in my local rental store way back in the 90s, but never got the chance of watching it. Until now. Thank you for refreshing my memory. Keep up with the good content. Cheers!
Looks more like a Chasmosaurus given the three horns and wide frill, Sty had 1 on the snout if I remember correctly and many longer horns on the frill Though dinosaurs can easily be confused, especially the ceratopsian variety. As you were with your excellent video c:
Holy shit, I remember this movie. I was working at a video store and we got this it in. I was prepping it for rental and I just kept staring at it. It was a Full Moon AND David DeCoteau film rated PG and obviously for kids. I was very confused.
I remember back in the 90s as a young one. The now close down but still beloved VideoMaster on Plainfield Ave in Grand Rapids, MI had all three Prehysterias. Btw VideoMaster is now a Vinyl Record store. Ps I love your review. Thanks dude.
I was waiting and hoping u were gonna do a vid of this movie since you've mentioned it a couple of times and knowing that u love those kinds of movies just like the rest of us cuz of the nostalgia of it I cant wait to watch this one again and finally b able to show my 2 daughter this awesome movie. 😎
I'd love to see an "Exploring Harbinger Down". If you haven't seen it I think it's right up your ally. It's basically a mockbuster of "the Thing". It's on Prime right now
3:37 Wow, I remember that Target commercial. Target had a thing were if you bought something and saw that it went down in price a week later you can ask for the difference. I saved like 40 dollars on a Snes game back in the 90's because of this commercial.
I love your channel!!! I watched Sleepaway Camp because you said how good it was and I was not disappointed- what a twist at the end!! Such a great film. I love dinosaurs, I can't believe I've never heard of this film. Excited to check it out.
Prehysteria! God the name of this movie has been bothering me for over a decade. I remember seeing this movie on vhs when I was little, but completely forgot what the name was. All I remembered was that the Trex's name was Elvis.
Also; shout out to Mr. Dan Carr, for having the same first and last name as my late father. Unless that actually IS a post from you, in which case, I just want to say; I miss you... =(
I loved this movie (and it's sequels) when I was a kid. Being a big fan of dinosaurs certainly helped.
My kids loved this film, and we eventually bought the video shop's copy to save on rentals! Thanks for another great video.

The good old days. Video rentals and criminally high "late charges" from Blockbuster. lol
Awww. I loved this movie as a kid! I always rented it when I was visiting my grandparents. Good times.
I remember loving this movie because having little dinosaurs was the coolest thing I could imagine when I was little.
This reminds me of Seymour Skinner's movie idea: "Billy and the Cloneasaurus".
I thought the title was "Ballad of the Cloneasaurus". Leading to a rather long, and detailed rant by Apu wondering what rock Skinner had been under the previous year.
