My biggest complaint with Mabi is it feels like you're doing your thing like usual, and then all of a sudden you need to have good equipment and a really good understanding of crowd control and buff/debuff mechanics you didn't need before at the same time the enemies just stop reacting to being hit. It feels like the skillfloor just jumps up massively without any time to learn what it now wants from you. Then again, I don't usually have a party, so I'm already playing hardmode.
Dude, you're not alone in that thought. That's why I hope the engine update also scales everything in the game to our modern stats, gear, and abilities. I am not sure how far you are, but arcana is like amazing. and we will soon get a dungeon that gives you celtic weapons for free including a new celtic bow and 2h sword which the 2h sword is 2 pierce by default! That's a better default than divine blade, haha. If you havent seen my guides on debuffing and crowd control, those may be of use to you. I am currently making the buff guide, so stay tuned for that.
I actually teared up a bit at 5:18. You managed to capture something that took my breath away. Even with just the fire crackling, the music, and a adventurer and their companion it speaks so much to me. Like, they have been together so long. It's like I almost feel like your character with my dog XD
Arcana's really make me happy since you can min-max one to specialize in one certain content. So much fun having a specialization as you mentioned. I can't wait to see where they'll go with Lance arcana in the future, as well as Fighter and other talent combination down the road!
i think thats where the game is going- arcanas don't allow you to use other arcana skill sets, but we're still able to use the normal talent skills. The only issue with the game right now is the power creep. I'm hoping the game goes through a rebuild with the new UE update, there's a lot of balancing to do if we really want this game to live on for another 20 years like KR says they want to.
Power creep was a fuckup with creepy haunted/ eerie spooky. They never stopped after that. I do think that really is a huge problem, too. I think maybe adding things like CH/ES or a version of that to a new dungeon would be a great step towards "fixing it"
I think I understand what it is that I love about your videos. YOU make me feel PROUD of playing Mabinogi. Like I want to tell people about the game now hahaha. I really hope you continue making videos. Thank you Davey
Wow, thank you for believing in me : ) haha, the last clip I was going to put my twitch and stuff up but decided it was too pretty to muck it up. Rather have viewers enjoy it
As someone who is still new to the game (returning after a decade), defined roles is the one thing I’m missing from my previous MMO (FFXIV) to feel useful. Like it’s cool that I can do everything and that I don’t need to do it very well to get through content, but my skill is so subpar still that there’s no way I’d be useful for social play. Adding in specialized tanks/healers/alternative support (like Bard kinda is) would let me be a lot more useful. 😊
Welcome back. I think Mabo needs to study mmos like ff14 and wow to understand better what it is currently. Mabo, to me, is in such a strange place where it's like good but not great. I guess we just have to sit tight and see what happens, haha
Great video! I feel that we should have more dungeons with specific roles needing to be filled. Personally games are better when playing with friends and when I do play with friends they don’t feel as useful because there’s always that equip changing GIGA who uses 5 talents to clear the content then flame by calling us a monkey. The combat style is cool and it’s fun to be able to use everything but it’ll be a lot more fun if everyone can have their specific role! Great seeing your videos as always!
That's probably the biggest point to emphasize. Playing with friends and no one feeling useless. That's one of the main reasons I would love to see roles take a more prominent place
There's nothing I'd love more than to have them really lean into 'skill focus, not gear focus' Cause even with Blaanid boost and my many years playing as a kid, the 'wall' of stuff like demo/ruination/nightbringer/persues/etc, and Erg 40+ just feels so unattainable as a returner, let alone a new player, even with the new Celtic Chronicle Freebies Heck, much as people meme on 'DD OP', I'm a long way of even getting 1k MATK for piercing on Seething, let alone 1400 for 3.
I am a huge advocate of them revamping all of the generations with the new engine to have a lot more mechanics sorta like the chronicle mission and how it shows you certain mechanics that you will see in more advanced dungeons. I'd say that crom 80-100% and Glenn hard mode are heavily skill focused. but the early game is so outdated and not engaging that they need to look over it again. As for gear, I like to think that a player is one or two big mats away from making a demo weapon. I mean, broken magic essence that come from rabbie advance hardmode or alby advance hardmode go for 80m+. glenn normal drops huge enchants that go for 100's of millions and when you get 200 pity coins that's 200m right there. the threads from glenn sell for 300k+. There are a ton of ways to make gold. It's just a matter of scanning the horizon. Just keep your head up. Trust me. Getting that first big weapon starts an avalanche. You got this, brother!
@@Ballpuncher For sure, I definitely have ways to slowly make some money, just a matter of time and fighting laziness. Namely selling Erg mats. A week or two of that, and I could at lest buy a fresh Demo.
i totally agree! I love mabinogi for the incredible freedom and flexibility it offers BUT where is the sense that I as a player am making a positive impact? Right now it still feels like mabi has a long way to go but i’m SO excited for what the future holds. so much of the systems in mabi tend to fight each other so it feels like the game isn’t quite sure what it wants to be… but I think updates like these are really like to cement mabinogi into something that really rewards players creativity and return us to that sense of each player contributing to positively without over complication with systems and over simplification (just more power creep)
The sad thing is I think we are riding a fine line, too, haha. Nexon could just as easily go a opposite direction. and power creep might become greater than it already is : ((
I have always thought that Mabinogi was a "different" kind of game compared to others; even from the old days where combat was "slow". And while the game has changed a lot, I still feel the game is still special in its own ways; like, having access to all skills would make you think you can do everything but in the heat of the moment, you'd rather focus on the thing that you do best instead so it is more of a matter of choice AND a matter of learning it.
Yeah, I feel the exact same way you do. It really feels like a sandbox combat system. Even though I haven't done theta yet, I really think having a role while doing what we usually would do would be amazing . It's exciting that mabinogi has so much potential right now!
Feels like it'll be a fine line the game will ride moving forward. I'm just glad the game is getting constant updates monthly. It really shows they believe in the game's success.
i think mabi's biggest strength is the fact that you can be a jack of all trades, the lack of role identity IS mabis strength and idenity, its what makes it unique in the face of countless MMORPG's that require you pick a role and stick to it these days. a problem i think those games have (minus those like FF14 which addressed it) is locking a player into a Role on a single char, meaning if you want to say mix it up from playing Mage and be a melee user, you have to create a new character and begin all the story and narrative, side content extra progression stuff AGAIN. going through all the motions just to get to the gear grind. and even then you cant switch them freely on the whim when you want to play with it. which lets face it is going to get tedious and boring REAL fast if you want to play more then 2 classes. With mabi you can consolidate that all into 1 character and then its merely a gear grind from then on and switching to the set you want to use. Extra Characters are merely for extra Rewards each week. for Roles i think thats why Arcana exists with its "only 1 can be active at a time" rule, fill that void without ruining mabis identity. tbh ive been playing since G3, im one of very few i think at this point who stuck with the game through thick and thin and never taking a hiatus, (IGN: foxegirl) and forcing a role system on everyone like every MMORPG does will legitimately make me quit the game. its what drew me in the first place minus the artstyle things like Theta where its optional content that has you take up a roll is fine, making it game wide would more then likely kill the game.
@@TheFallinhalo I agree. It's why I liked mab since I came from a game called Asheron's call back from 1999, haha. Asheron's call was like mabi in that you could train whatever you wanted to make a build that suited you.
My twin's been a long time fan of Mabi since it released. Didn't know it's getting an updated engine. Good to hear. I've been on wow since 2008. Think both of these mmo's are great. Really want my orc warrior to be a Burning blademaster tho.
That's awesome. I sorta have been wanting to play wow classic again after seeing people do the hardcore challenge, haha. Also, you could always put a fiery enchant on your sword to become a burning blademaster, hahaha
I think it would help the social crowd get more into the combat side. It's def a very fine line, though, in terms of doing it correctly. Just a thought, though, haha
the holy trinity role system s great, for someone into it. I prefer the mixing and matching of skills Mabi allows. Then again, I play FFXIV too. Thing is, im not ever locked in to just one role in FFXIV, I can play them all. I will never look at an mmo where you are only ever locked to one class lest you make a new character the same way again. Then again, I never really did play WoW.
So the interesting part of modern wow is each class sorta can do everything other classes do but your specific class is more specialized to their trinity role rather than being hard focused on that role. It's a very fine line, isn't it? Giving access to arcanas without having to switch would break everything I'd wager. I'd actually like to to try that, haha. It would break everything, though, and just make everyone a powerhouse, haha. I still think arcana is the best update mabinogi has ever gotten. Not for creating "class" gameplay, but arcana skills feel good to use. But to your point, I still find myself using like 70-80% of regular skills with the rest being arcana. I feel like it's a good mix between the two. Not sure how everyone else feels, though.

@@Ballpuncher I'd love to see more streamlined gameplay. Imho, the combat is dated and feels laggy to the point I was almost a purely social player when I came back. I tried to play this game a while back, the controls are dog crap like really really realllly bad straight up lol but what really pushed me away was that it isnt very inviting at all if you are playing solo, its kinda boring even just because there is SO MUCH information you lack thats already put in the game and the game doesnt really do anything at all to help catch you up with other people, basically go into this game with friends or just move on imo
Sorry you had a bad experience. When was it you last played? The game has gotten like quality of life overhauls and the engine is being replaced which should make the controls feel more modern haha : D
Haha! Yeahhhh, it was rough back then. Not sure how long ago it was when you played and I do not want to jack the game off or sell the game, but it has changed a lot maybe since you last played in terms of controls, streamlined content, and well everything, haha. The new engine, whenever that happens, will hopefully be a change for the best.
@@Ballpuncher I went ahead and downloaded it and have been giving it another go and overall i think the biggest issue is that there is still a whole lot of stuff that i just don't understand and cant wrap my head around because the games so different from other mmo's, i would like to get into it yeah but there needs to be some level of hand holding in my opinion for new players, its just outright confusing with a TON of texts thrown at you left and right and while i'm sure there is good info in them i don't even know if the game will captivate me long enough to get through it all... its like instead of slowly introducing things to me it just shotgun blasts you right out the gate almost, idk maybe i just don't have the patience required to play this game, it does at least from a viewers pov look fun tho =) but i still gotta double down on you really should play this game with a friend or someone who knows what's going on
@@DrPanda-kf8cu It's funny you should say that. If you click on my leveling guide video. The first thing I say is "mabo sucks ass at explaining things" hahaha. Which is why I wanted to make guides. Just to get people to the good stuff a lot faster. I am writing a beginner guide as well for basically what you said: to "handhold" and give the basic gist of everything so a player can get right into the game without questioning the UI and not be overwhelmed with text in their face. Thank you for giving your honest feedback, though. It actually really helps me broaden my scope of what others are seeing when first starting out. Maybe, too, the new engine will make things a lot more streamlined, too!
My problem is something no one ever seems to agree with me on but I wont back down on it. Shapeshifting. I feel like it could have been so much better I love being able to turn into a wolf and fight monsters early on it works fine for like 100 levels or so but it quickly becomes unviable to use. You put in all this work to turn into a golem or a dragon but your damage is garbage. I could live with not having any special skills and just being able to use the base skills like we can now but for god sake give us some better damage numbers so I can use it in late game content.
I think that was actually a direction they wanted to go at one time. At least it felt like it but it sorta fizzled out. I think a druid talent would be kind of sick, though. Like maybe if you turn into a fox you get a lot of luck to help with evade and you get like movement speed or something. Stuff like that.
@@Ballpuncher See I would be fine with that not enough games do a monster form and mabinogi was the only one that gave us so many things to turn into but they are at this point just a gimic just give us better damage numbers and it would be fine for me doesn't even need a whole new class just make the advance versions of the dream catcher have higher damage and it would be fine but I've been asking for years with no response or people just out right being against it which makes no since.
If you haven't seen it, there are new tidbits of the new mabinogi engine going around: ruclips.net/video/EnTTKNZmnn0/видео.html&ab_channel=KodeVu it's sorta weird to see for me, haha

Dude, we can only hope... : ( Sorry I haven't posted a crom vid like I said. I actually have been waiting for mage and archer arcana so I can showcase those in there, too.
@@Ballpuncher I'll check em out!
Shout out to julai best healer ruari server had 2009-2020
@@ValentLee Maybe with the engine update we will see something??? Haha, Sky's the limit!
Last scene so good.
This is nostalgia
If you haven't seen it, there are new tidbits of the new mabinogi engine going around: ruclips.net/video/EnTTKNZmnn0/видео.html&ab_channel=KodeVu it's sorta weird to see for me, haha
