I don't have any codes, but have noticed a hesitation occasionally when shifting on hot days (03 Liberty). I've ordered a kit with the filter, solenoids, sensors and gasket along with a new oil pan with a drain. I doubt the transmission fluid has every been changed. Is the hesitated shifting typically just oil fluid and filter ? I'm new at working on Jeeps, but am trying to save some $$$ doing jobs myself. I can't afford to leave myself walking is why I hesitate to change the solenoids.

Assembled everything back as properly as it was before best I can tell. Went ahead and changed trans fluid and filter while doing all that. The linkage is good. I can see the linkage changing the gears on the trans. The fluid is full. All the connections are hooked backup. Checked the transfer case and all good there so its not in neutral on transfer. Thanks for the video! Nice to get confirmation that I am changing out the right part. However, it sure would help to know more about how to get that blasted shift lever off - he mentions a 13mm or 1/2", which is helpful, but how do you get tools way up in there? What's the trick?
Great video. My sons Jeep has a P0740 code. It seems to run and shift just fine. It is a 2011 JK. Had my mechanic do a flush and filter. Need to check wiring connections. Should I have him do a solenoid pack? Or can I just do a TCC solenoid? The Jeep is running 35s on what I assume are stock gears. We just bought it. Any help is appreciated. Also When we pulled the pan the paint/coating inside pan was bubbles badly so I replaced pan. Weird. Thanks again
Got a 03i just bought a 03 tj 42rle i have drive 1 and 2 but will not go in N R are P....got a Neutral safety switch code and check shifter signal.... The shifter will move up to part reverse and neutral, but it's very hard have to force it but dose not chang out of drive and will not crank in less i jump the starter and cant remove the key Any advice?
I just balanced them on the valve body and slowly lifted up. There I enough clearance to stick your fingers in and adjust them a bit as you lift up. Once they get started in the bores they will align themselves.
Also saw another video recently they used a thick transmission part grease that held them in the bores and is harmless mixing into ATF. Not sure what product though .
What’s the technical part name that you replace? “Trans shifter block?” My friends 2004 TJ is doing the exact same thing and I am helping him fix it. I’m more of a Diesel Truck and 1973 CJ5 guy.
My daughter's 2000 TJ has a 32RH. What year did the TJ start getting equipped with the 42RLE? May be interested in replacing the 32RH with a 42 when it's time.
I don’t know if you’re still answering questions but I just did this on my jeep and when I tried to start in P it wouldn’t turn on it will turn on only in R. It also won’t move forward or back in any of the other gears and it threw the P0841 code. Could it be I didn’t have the shifter in the right position when tightening the clamp back on?
Do you know the Code P2638. And what I can do to fix it. I was up hill on the highway but didn't want pass 35 miles and it wasn't taking other gear later on. It work fine. Motor is a 3.6
My 2012 Wranger sahara is slipping between 3rd and 4th gear.....I changed trany fluid and problem went away. that was back in september of 2021, here it is march 2022 and it's slipping again...Driveable tho, no slipping between any other gears. I have the Chrysler Service and Diagnostic manual. No matter what I read all the repairs sound expensive. :(
Is this a problematic part that would cause a wrangler to drop from 5th to 1st while towing uphill and not allowing normal upshift? I have a relative on holiday from the east coast towing a 900lb utility trailer and is having that issue.
Hey buddy mine has no reverse you put it on the scanner and the sensor saying it in neutral and before when it was in reverse it would forward until it was finally full do you think it could be shift solenoid it had a po700 code drive work shift weird tho want to go in to 2nd or overdrive right away
CAN YOU ANSWER THIS FOR ME. My 2012 rubicon will act like it is neutral when I go from low range back to high range. It only does this when I have been in low range for a while. It doesn't do it all the time, but when it does, I have to rev the engine a couple of time before it starts moving. And sometimes when it does start to move it feels like it is slipping. So I put it into reverse, then back to drive and it works fine. Any suggestions?
Hey there Have you encountered a no reverse issue on a 2004 kj liberty jeep? Oil is clean and no burning smell. Rest of the gears is flawless. I am thinking of a clogged selonoid or broken one way valve. No warning lights on dash. Transmission acted perfectly fine before. Any ideas?
any idea where tran fluid pressure sensor is I did the input and output. they were both on side. How can get the gear ratio correct by driving and shifting. I did change tran fluid filter for first time in my 52 yrs
@@drupp4740 No unfortunately. Only thing I can think of is that it is part of the solenoid pack in the valve body of the transmission. But i am still uncertain.
I was receiving a P1698 code on my 2004 Jeep LJ. I replaced the TCM and the code went away but it still will not go out of 2nd gear. Would you suggest this could be my issue or is there something else I should look for? Thanks for any help you could give me.
Great video! I was hoping to see how you put the accumulators back in while working from below. I haven’t seen anyone post a video of it while working from underneath. Do you just rest them on top of the valve body when putting the body back up? Or is there a trick to it? Thanks!

Thank you for posting this, I've had a recurring limp mode causing P1745 Hi Pressure code in my 2009 JK for more than a year here in South Florida. From the start of it, a local regarded Jeep shop replaced the solenoid, pressure sensor and it still went into limp mode. They then replaced the PCM stating it was causing it, then the TIPM unit stating the high mileage on my jeep probably had it riddled with corrosion. After a month it went back into limp mode. All the while they've been able to clear the limp mode with a Snap On shop scanner but the problem always came back. Then they ghosted me for asking for them to stand behind all of this work and find a solution. Local transmission shop checked the tranny and changed the fluid, no shavings found, fluid they took out looked great. I wish your shop was here in South Florida. What should I do? Thank you for any help or advice.
thegrouptrainingacademy.com/p1745-tech-tip/ and www.sonnax.com/tech_resources/373-42le-42rle-variable-line-pressure should help you. The high pressure solenoid is a different solenoid not located in the solenoid pack/block. Sometimes the wiring harness or the solenoid can be faulty. I replaced the whole valve body that had everything with it.
My zj 1995 limited doesn't move in Reverse. When I put it in neutral it drives. I'd shift it down all the way to 1 then up when when I get to neutral it actually stays in neutral. When I shift to reverse it stops and just stays there.

Hey man I could really use some help. I have a 05 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 with the POS transmission you are working on. The line going into the front of the transmission is leaking like crazy and this transmission is less than 2 years old. We put in a remanufactured transmission with no issue when we bought this Jeep. We dealt with the overheating issues and now all of a sudden the transmission went into limp mode and now it's just absolutely stuck and we cannot get anything loose despite you saying it needed a 10 mm this thing has a 10 mm, 15, 16, 18 mm, all these weird and I numbered votes on it. We can't seem to break loose even with a breaker bar the driveshaft to get it out of the damn way. I'm very frustrated and my father who is working on the vehicle can I physically handle doing something extensive like dropping the tranny again. There's no leak in the seals at all it's just at that line by the driveshaft. Really don't think it's the valve body. Never heard of any even leaking in this particular area. Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated because I am a single mom and don't have a lot of money to be dealing with this. We don't have a lift which would make everything a whole lot easier like you do we just have the regular old Hercules Jack to work with when lifting the car up. We have a new one that we just bought today so is there anyway you can help me I would appreciate it.
@@jeepstyle4054 in Richmond Virginia these guys here are idiots. I went in to do a recall about 2 years ago on the vehicle and they said it was 20 things wrong with it. Yet I've got $1,000 code machine and it did not come up with any of the codes they said it came up with. None of the codes had anything to do with the transmission or engine. The guys here are just untrained and don't know what they're doing. For example they sold me the wrong gas cap to start with so I had to go back and get the correct one. How simple is it to get a correct part like a gas cap? My father is just going to drop the whole tranny out because he's tired of fooling with it so we put another Jack in the back of the car and for extra of the old timey little jack's up under there so it doesn't fall accidentally for any reason. My father has big hands so it's just hard for him to get underneath the Jeep itself and for some reason it won't let me upload images on here. I might just take a video and put it on my side which I've never done before. Just to show how he had to wire everything direct to the battery through the car with a switch. And the parts he took off to make it a direct line so the fan will always be on and the car will not overheat anymore. Cylinder number four is the one that had the misfire but we've replaced that. Was running fine perfect for a year and then all of a sudden one day no puddles no indications nothing it just does this crap. I know my father doesn't have much longer to live and I don't want to bother him with this Jeep because he gets frustrated like any mechanic when every both is a different size. I know my father doesn't have much longer to live and I don't want to bother him with this Jeep because he gets frustrated like any mechanic when every bolt is a different size everything which I don't know why they do and it's on every car that he's ever worked on. And my dad has been a mechanic for over 60 years. He's worked on every type of vehicle including diesel including big trucks including NASCAR cars. But these Jeeps are just a damn bitch. I told him to stop writing about this car I'll buy damn mopad if I have to I don't care. As long as I can get to work and take my child to school and even to the grocery store a million times and the mopad I'll do it. If work wasn't so far I would just walk. The bus where my daughter has to walk to is actually a two-mile walk. We live in the suburbs not the country either. But it's the front line going into the transmission that's leaking everywhere and the seals look good no leakage from them we just can't get the drivetrain to unlock to get the line-out period even when putting it in 4-wheel low it's still will not let us remove it. We put the right transmission fluid in it too and that was not cheap. Thank you for replying and I'm hoping maybe there's another way to get the drivetrain out because a screwdriver and a hammer and a breaker bar won't get it out. I have no clue at this point that's why my dad said just to drop the whole damn thing out. But it has to be an easier way if it's just this one lying that's busted to fix it. We got those old factory clamps off which took tooth-and-nail to get off but they came off. Any suggestions on how to get it out without my dad killing himself and having a heart attack? Like I said the Jeep dealership is out of the question. There are no oldies there anymore just guys under the age of 25 who really don't know what they're doing.

Why the bolts were so tight was my uncle used an air wrench instead of an impact wrench to install the bolts and to start with before my father new would he had done. He certainly knows now what happened but he never saw his brother put the bolts in because his brother is not the smartest person in the world. He's about 8 fries short of a happy meal when it comes to the world of mechanics. All he can basically do is paint a car and that's it. Yet he certainly thought he could do what he wanted with my car and I am not happy about that. But that is OK because my father has to go up there this weekend and will tear him a new one when he gets there as he expressly told him not to touch my Jeep. My uncle lied and said he got a friend to install the transmission originally. My father was not too happy about this. But since it's his brother he let it go. For me this is the third time he has messed up any of my vehicles. I will be going with my father up there and at the least he will have the most horrendous case of the runs while I'm there and we will be going out to eat . So he won't be eating much lol besides his own mistakes .He never apologizes for anything he does and thanks it's just OK to take what he wants from anybody . Hi jeepstyle im having a p0700 and p0740 come up and there was another one that was a slow shift cant remember code and hasn't come back yet any advice?
Obviously it's hard to diagnose a vehicle without it being in the shop, but that particular situation definitely has an effect on the entire transmission. if you remove the pan and everything is pretty clean and it checks out that solenoid pack is fucking gnarly. And it's inexpensive enough to replace and then move forward. Hope that helps I'm talking about a situation that has a lot of moving parts but that's solenoid pack is the source of a lot of problems

Same issue here in limp mode but the front line is leaking. Pos 42rle transmission. I had to use a breaker bar and a 10mm and an 15mm and a 16mm but it's still won't come off. JEEP is fully aware of these problems but refuse and acknowledge to do anything about them. I had to basically drag the whole toolbox up from the garage. All for one front one that is draining at the front of the transmission.

Did you reprogram the PCM to the VIN number? There are several things like fuel injectors, gear ratio and transmission shift points that are VIN specific and might not work properly if all parameters weren't updated when the PCM was swapped. You must have done some of it or it wouldn't start, but things like injectors or transmission controllers might let it run, but do weird things.
@@ImOBreezy You might try disconnecting the battery and forcing it to relearn. Otherwise, maybe ask the dealer to scan it and make sure they have all of the latest flashes installed and that no codes are stored. Perhaps they missed updating something. Good luck, hope it's a simple fix!

There really is no trick, one side of the lever holds the bolt head the other side is just a nut. shift The shifter around to get a good angle
Great video. My sons Jeep has a P0740 code. It seems to run and shift just fine. It is a 2011 JK. Had my mechanic do a flush and filter. Need to check wiring connections. How do you get the accumulators and springs to stay in place when you put the valve body back up
I just balanced them on the valve body and slowly lifted up. There I enough clearance to stick your fingers in and adjust them a bit as you lift up. Once they get started in the bores they will align themselves.
@@mattkerner811 OK thanks
Also saw another video recently they used a thick transmission part grease that held them in the bores and is harmless mixing into ATF. Not sure what product though .

It was being held in place by a gnats a**. How odd. Every light is now off on my dashboard and no codes. My dad is doing good too. Now he is not mentally challenged and does not have any issues to where he absolutely does not know the difference between right or wrong . He's just a very spoiled entitled baby of the family. My aunt said that is an absolute lie because they live in such a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains but everybody knows everybody. And she's the biggest nosy body there. If I ever need the truth I just go to her.
