Reworking support towers will always have either the biggest backlash or the biggest approval just because of the impact they have on buffing towers or debuffing enemies, ESPECIALLY those that buff other towers

Reworked commander is considered an A-tier instead of a S-tier to me. what would have made the change better is if the caravans had more health as they can get one-shotted by stomps. A good change would either to make the price of the caravan ability lower or increase the health to the caravans. It’s my person opinion but yeah.

Any support tower is instantly S tier because not using it makes all your other towers a lot weaker (excluding medic there isn't THAT much stun abilities in TDS)
I Do actually think this rework was a nerf for the commander, tho the remodel was 100% necessary, the stat changes to be honest weren't very needed (except from the part where the ability gets stronger the more you upgrade commander which really makes sense and i dont understand why wasn't a thing before), expecially the range nerf, commander's base range is smaller than soldier's base range, which is uhh, annoying to say the least.
And the new ability, like corso said, its pretty useless in the late game, the APC's don't even have atleast 1k health, that definetly isn't very helpful in the late game with enemies that have like 3,5k health each
I'm thinking the stat change is to keep commander up to date with how they balance new towers and reworks, like there's probably something about 3 commanders in one map being able to buff almost every single tower by so much that bothered them

a fun rework wouldve been that it doesn't have call to arms but it buffs its attack speed buff over the round the more damage it deals so it forces strategic track coverage and justifies that INSANE range nerf
paradoxum games is working on making the game less dependent upon towers such as commander and dj (dj rework soon???). they want people to use more towers rather than just the "meta". i think that this is a good approach since it allows for more "obscure" and unique towers to be utilized and allows players to pick whether or not they should bring the farm, commander, and dj loadout as it takes up 3 of 5 whole slots. 🤓

The missle apc is burst unit(burst of 4) which means its dps is calculated differently
The APC with explosives has flying detection on top of the rest of the things. So even tho it is a bit worse in support the commander is now the first tower that spawns units that directly attack and damage all types of enemies.

I think this update is a good one as i said in a previous video of someone elses channel the new ability(to me) makes up for the lost 5% of firerate and the range as i think it does good dps especially if you spam all commanders ability at once even tho the commanders main ability cooldown got increased just sell it and replace it like seriously also for voice acting its fine johns va was a bit outdated even tho theyre iconic plus neko commander is the best skin because of the trains gg
i feel like this is an amazing change, im sure this change will show its worth once more of the new difficulties planned for the game eventually come out.
the reworked commander is probably gonna be one of the best clutches in hardcore because the caravan total hp for each commander is 900hp and times that by 3 thats 2700 hp and they're gonna be able to shoot before they die to a boss like speedy king they're gonna be able to do 125 dmg thus 3 caravans is a total of 3075 dmg total with ramming dmg and its a bit better than military base in terms of clutching mid enemies that could one shot your base but overall military base is better for clutching the base but the caravan is more reliable due to it being optional to spawn the caravan

i think the micro is gonna be harder for new player but easier for good player since in that 10 sec cooldown for cta is good for replacing other tower and the new ability only cost 3k which not that expensive for those who got cheap high dmg and it will be sure spamable with all player equiping comander
ever since john and razuatix left tds, the devs have been slowly getting rid of them. yeah, there's the john militant skin, but now there's no john voice lines for commander. they even removed raz and john statues from rocket arena.

If you have enough gamesense, You can IMMEDIATELY calculate the optimal placement spot for commander, It takes me about half a second as an experienced player to figure out where to place

A good change for the game IMO, though it DOES indirectly buff every mode in the entire game because one of your support towers now grants less boosts. Doubt the funny hardcore on triple path map is still possible now, for one.
2:39 in my testing, the ability lasted until the cooldown was 27/28, so chaining is still possible for the most part
I agree with everything you said, except for the last words.
The commander now in my opinion is still not a good tower because of the attack radius. Before the rework, players had the choice of taking a DJ or a commander, there was one good option. Take the commander. Since its radius always allowed it to reach all the necessary towers. Because its radius was 20. Now, even under DJ with the value rounded, it will have 19 and Polluted Wastlelands is a good example for this.
3 commanders reached 3 key points where players set up their defenses. Now it won’t be possible to do this; one of the commanders will not reach the towers with his radius. 2 The commander's ability does not help him and does not balance his price.
If the ability were free or if these armored vehicles had a thousand HP each but were paid to summon, I would take it as a balance, although it still makes the commander weaker, but it at least somehow balances him out, because at the moment these cars are useful up to a maximum of 29-30. On the boss wave they are generally useless, because the Fallen King dies with one stunning blow.
That's why I don't think the commander is still a good tower. His nerf does not allow him to be in the S+ tier.
I would put the commander in S or A+ tier. This is my personal opinion.
a big point of the commander rework is that they want you to time your coa ability instead of mindlessly spamming it. Yes, they somewhat accomplished this with the cd increase, but a range nerf also accomplishes this. If you want to cover all of your towers with commanders, you need to spread them out now, making it so you actually have to think when to use coa and on what commander. This is a perfect rework and if you think the commander is bad now you’re delusional

I judge everything from the point of view of a Hardcore player who would like not Impossible Challenges that are never possible to complete, but Challenges have an insane complexity, but at the same time doable.
And solo gaming is the only place where you can get this, and each Tower plays an important role here, and even more so the Commander, who for a moment is the most important support in the game and such a nerf is reflected not only in all previously built tactics but also in heplay.
If some tower is going to be nerfed or buffed, then something should go as compensation for this.
Let's take an accelerator as an example.

I think a good buff for this new rework is to remove the cost for using it's unit ability. Sure, Mercenary Base has a similar ability, but it costs less, and at the point at where you max it out, it's pretty guaranteed you'll have a ton of money, especially if you're playing a special gamemode like polluted wastelands.
Overall, a pretty good rework. A lot of people were complaining on twitter that it was killing the commander overall. But, even if the firerate bonus was only 50% instead of 55%, any firerate buff that isn't a conaumable will always be S tier.

I dont mind the buffing nerf i mind the part where U CAN NO LONGER CHAIN COMMANDER and in pw2 and hc YOU NEED the comm buff at all times. A good buff i think is making the placement limit 4 or 5

The ability for the army vehicles may not be the best, but the spawner tower challenge got an add-on.

I think might need to be in a consideration when bring it to Hardcore mode, with the stats change like this the available strat that exist now will need huge rework regarding placement and stuff. My opinion is that this count as nerf because the stat change is massive and it's one and only support tower that give necessary buff for dps.

I think my main issue with the commander nerf is that its late game range was overnerfed, and its ability is just not worth it at all. For the same price you can get a tank which can do the job of all 3 but better, alongside being free and having slightly less recharge time. If the ability was on the 2nd to last upgrade and then the last upgrade made them better it would actually have a place in the game, but as of right now the summon ability is entirely useless.
The Lucile strat might have to make a work around for this new rework

Hi I'm Elec, I am a TDS player I sometimes do some stuff that help some people. (former strategiest of a hardcore strategy from April 2022)
Commander overall, feels like a DPS tower rather than a support tower. It can deal about 20k damage in total in a Fallen Match.
The current Pros and Cons I can find is:
Pros:
Commander now does 60k dmg (3 of it) in a Fallen Game.
DPS buffed from 6 > 12.5
APC spawning, very cost-eff for 3k it does about 150 dps with high range.
Cons:
Loss of 30-45% of the range.
Literally lost of level 2 on 1/3 of it's ability.
Level 2-3 now sucks. (for the most part)
Placement limit of 4
Lucille the most used hardcore strategy had to make the strategy literally use ACCELERATOR making it ST, that's how bad the Commanders nerf is.
This makes Commander somewhat trash in about solo games. I tested this with a loadout purely dependent on Commander (fully buffed). The loadout was Farm, Militant, Turret, Ranger, Commander. I'm telling you. How long it took me to kill the Fallen King. Commander just feels like, it's not a support. It's not like the Commander I feel before. The lower range makes it feel like a Tower Battles copy. This just truly ruins many strategies, making some more RnG or even impossible. As DJ is somewhat better for solos just because it fully buffs towers to it's range and discount and not Commander only buffing by about 45% (average). It's still an amazing tower required for literally every gamemode, it just don't feel the buffs it feel before.
Rating:
Solos: S+ > S-
Duos/Trios/Quads: S+ > S
Overall Ranking: S
It is still, the best tower but it's now like nerfed. The support it gives is less which I give it a lower grade, for solos DJ gives a better buff which I am not happy about.
After some considerations from the replies earlier that don't agree on my opinion or saying I'm a nerd or I yapped, they're you go I realised you will still use it regardless.

I’d say A+ it’s still good but the thought of not being able to chain gives a lot less dps potential, and the range nerf and stuff. I just hate it being like inclined on damage more than support.. it’s literally just supposed to be that. No need to cram abilities

i think new commander having a 10% or 5% dmg buff could make up for its firerate debuff
The reworked commander seems pretty good. The only thing i would improve on is the APC units having a lot more health as they get destroyed in later waves easily. Also, reducing the cooldown may be beneficial as chaining is no longer fully possible. Overall however, they made a tower that was once pretty boring and felt forced to use in loadouts to a cool tower with a pretty nice gimmick.

Commander is now abit better with the 50% fire rate buff and the cooldown of 30 seconds of CoA returning and the Caravan ability is now 2k(idk if it returns the changes for the abilities from this video after PVP testing ends or the devs just decides to buff it on the Brawler Update
The placement limit really changes alot of strats.
The most crucial changes i just can't really ignore is the range nerf and the new voicelines. I'm really gonna miss the og one by john.

I love the new commander and all the skins but I feel like if they made it a max of 4 placement limit chaining would be alot easier and because of the way smaller range how are strats like lucille going to work?
it isn't the creators will have to make new hc strats, and they limited it at 3 to make sure you couldn't have constant ability spam because they want the game to be more strategic.
They’ll simply make strats that are a bit harder, the concept of strats depending on 1 troop isn’t a good idea anyway and this would instead serve as a well deserved difficulty increase for the game

Commander is now a mid-high A tier. I feel the nerf to the fr buff is pretty significant and the time between the ability is quite bad but it makes up with the units it can spawn at max. Still pretty good though.

I knew that we were inevitably going to get a redesign, but I didn't expect them to rework him... and nerf him like this in the process. Like, will he still be heavily used, yes, is he flat out worse now though... also yes. At least his redesign is nice I guess.
All I like about this commander is the new model, the design looks clean ngl 🔥, however... the firerate nerf was just devastating, I feel like it was a little bit unnecessary, a range decrease and a placement limit would have been good enough. Still, this rework isn't the worst in the world but stuff like this is why I barely play TDS anymore (or any TD games in general).
Also commander level 2: lead dedection,hidden and fly dedection have O_O
