My Mom passed away a couple of years ago. She couldn't play a fiddle, she could not sing. She didn't even know this song. And her Name was not Marianne. That's what brought me to this song. Suzanne we miss you.
My mom (Marianne) passed away from cancer a few years ago. Shortly after I discovered Leonard’s music and found this song. I know he didn’t write it about losing a loved one, but I’ve found this line be relatable while grieving: “Your letters they all say that you’re beside me now, then why do I feel alone? I’m standing on a ledge and your fine spider web is fastening my ankle to a stone.”
I also have a mom that passed from cancer (she was Mary Ann) I discovered Leonard’s music and this song after her death and it means a lot to me. Thank you for sharing! ❤️
My god what an absolutely phenomenal performance. Something so wonderful about Leonard Cohen is that his music attracted the talents of many brilliant performers. He always introduced them with such love.
What a stunning performance! Every musician and vocalist full of passion and talent, Leonard looking cool as hell and that violinist!! Hope this is available as a live album.
So great..everything is perfect..his voice, the words, the choir en also woww this violist. Just awesome. I need to listen L.Cohen everyday. He is telling me so much that I need, that I feel❤
It's always been a gorgeous dirgey lament - but what a rockin tune it was during this tour! LC singing as good as he ever would. A fantastic band. Jennifer Warnes & Sharon Robinson. The best of every one. If it be your will.....let them sing.
I was just sweeping through to see if someone names the girls in the background. And yes, my guess was Sharon and Jennifer. Wanted to be sure. Sharon followed him to the very last performance, this song was played in London too with Sharon and the Web sisters. Sharon was his true friend. RIP L. Cohen
My name is Maryann and my ex just sent me this song.....I love it....amazing. My dad friend said their is over 50 songs with Mayann in them....Lifetime channel uses Maryann name for a lot of the leading ladies character. Gilligan's Island......I love my name.❤
RIP Marianne. ''Marianne Ihlen, the woman immortalized in “So Long, Marianne” and the woman in Leonard Cohen’s life through the 1960s, died July 28, 2016 after being diagnosed with leukemia less than a week ago.''
Wow, some time ago this one. We might have imagined that we knew what "it's time to laugh and cry and laugh about it all again" meant back then, but now we truly know! :)
The violinist is my grandfather, who also past away on February 28, 2015. His name was Raffi Hakopian.
My condolences for you and your family. He was very talented.
I too am so sorry to hear of the passing of your grandfather. He was a beautiful musician. You can be proud to call him your grandad.
Gennadiy Khatchikyan so long to your grandfather . What a life to live.
The violin lends such emotion to this most beautiful song. I am sorry for your loss.
A spectacular performance, he builds and builds and takes the rest of the band with him.
Have loved Leonard Cohen and his music since my teens. I'm 70 now. The violinist is Wow! A class act.❤❤❤❤❤

My husband was a big Cohen fan. So I opened his funeral service with this song that he loved so much.
That is lovely- may the Lord grant him heaven
It's a hauntingly sad and beautiful song.

Lost love songs are always going to get our attention. Even before you've lost that love.
Musicians display their vulnerability in a very touching way which helps me to live!
It was so special to pay respects in front of his Montreal home yesterday night.. so long Leonard. Montreal has lost a great one.
God rest Raffi and Leonard, just wonderful
So Long Leonard & thanks for all the songs

Une des plus belles chanson d'amour. Les paroles sont pleines de sensualité, d'affection ............. d'amour.
Handsome guys. Your grandfather so amazingly good.
I listened this song almost 100 times, in bed with my headphones. Just a loving affair that did'nt happen with Evelyne Schembri. Still I cry!

Fantastica,!
His words hit and hurt deep.
Du gehörtest in meiner Folkzeit zu einer Welt, von der ich dachte, ich würde sie nie betreten können in diesem Leben.
The love of his life. He reached for her … at the end for both of them.
