I love how you guys are able to explain, define, dissect, and make revealing sense of the performances in your Reactions. And still AJ leaves you, like all others, nearly speechless. Her respectful foundation from iconic mentors like Billie, Ella, Etta, and the others since, incorporated into her own style, sound, skills, and talent is irresistible. Watch her face closely in this performance and you see her eyes and expressions knowing exactly what each note of her band is playing. She's the Boss in her recording sessions. What a special artist and her age then. As her tribute to Mr. Hawkins she took his song that was a parody to get attention to get tv bookings, and she made a serious jazz piece of this highly passionate song.

You could have been warned. Now the spell is cast , which turned all of us to angels before. 😉She is a master of channeling. The person, who was and is inspiration for her, introducing her to jazz, empowering her, is her Grandma, Iranian artist Mery Zamani, the woman, who handed over the candle to her in the beginning. There is a strong bonding between these both. At "Norway's Got Talent", in the age of 7/8 (she won) she covered Billie Holiday, who is her absolute role model. She also did a breathtaking version of "I'm A Fool To Want Yo" - acappella. Some talked of reincarnation. I like this thought, because Billie Holiday had such a hard life. She would deserve, to grow up so protected. Btw. , the co-musicians in the band, she was working with, called her "the boss", because she was so professional, working seriously, respectful and humble, , with a clear image, what she wanted (wants). Angelina speaks 3 languages fluidly: Norwegian, Farsi and English. Her maternal Grandfather was Japanese, her father is Swedish, so she speaks a little Japanese and Swedish too. You are really great reactors, I love your ability for reception. ✌🏼👍🏼

“She studies, embodies and shares.” You are so right. Excellent reaction! And yes, Christina Aguilera is probably the closest you can get in terms of pure vocal talent. But there is a huge difference in terms of musical understanding. Christina was all pyrotechnics all the time, doing everything because she could. Going forward, you’ll see that Angelina only ever does what she needs to communicate the meaning of the song so that you can FEEL it. The fun thing about this particular number, is that it is so theatrical that Angelina can for once go all out with vocal techniques a nine year old shouldn’t even know about, never mind master. And it has duende by the bucketload!

It is SO satisfying to hear a reaction that has so thoroughly utilized this background information in order to understand this once in a lifetime artist. Angelina’s incomparable music deserves it - thank you for sharing it with us.
As to “cultural appropriation”... that argument will be blown out of the water when you hear MULTIPLE covers of Frank Sinatra’s music of the 60’s, or MULTIPLE covers of Queen or Amy Winehouse, or many others.

Yes, Albert. You said more accurately what I was thinking. I was trying to indicate that many commenters provide background about Angelina to reactors, but many of them don’t take the time to read the comments before proceeding to their next Angelina reaction.
What I failed to acknowledge is what you just pointed out... that many reactors also don’t bother doing a little upfront research that would otherwise improve their reactions. Jared and Jordan are definitely not in that category - they do their homework ahead of time and it shows in their well researched, excellent reaction. Thanks Albert for clearing that up and pointing out what I should have! 👍😉

I’m really enjoying watching you two react to this wonderful prodigy. She does boggle the mind. And takes your breath away. At this age and up to early teens I think she studied other singers and channeled their voices. That’s not at all a bad thing. All vocalists do it. But at 15-16 I’d say Angelina has found her own very distinctive voice. Taking from all those influences. My hope is that she will continue singing jazz. Though I know her plans will be to reach a wider audience. (Jazz is a hard sell) She needs to cover more Winehouse as that music crosses both genres. And her voice lends itself to Amy’s music. Anyway… I love watching your video with your sister listening to STAY. It’s also fun to watch some vocal coaches listen to and analyze what AJ is doing with her voice. You might want to check them out.

In an interview a couple of years after Angelina was on Norway's Got Talent, Omer Bhatti (one of judges) was asked if Angelina was "the real deal." He responded: "At the second rehearsal [when she did "Bang Bang"] we saw how she owned the stage, directed the bass player, and was in complete control. We knew then that she was a star." Here's the video containing Omer's interview: ruclips.net/video/j9Fw97Ckvg4/видео.html.
Angelina may not "arrange" music in the sense of writing out every note of every part for each accompanist or band member. But she clearly (and politely) communicates in rehearsal exactly how she wants it to sound. This is why they call her "the Boss": she knows what she wants, and politely lets everyone know. The page she handed the director at the beginning of this session is an example: the director described it was a list of her "wishes" (as in "I wish you would do this when we get to this point..."). To see how she works, watch this video of her rehearsing the band for "Portrait of a Child" (AJ's version of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' original "Portrait of a Man"): ruclips.net/video/SAkZDAXJA4E/видео.html.

Welcome to this unreal cover and thanks for the wonderful and conscious reaction, it's important to understand the uniqueness of Angelina's work. This interpretation shows how Angelina, from a very young age, manages to elaborate in a splendid way her incredible passion and understanding for music, in particular for this type of mythical songs. She is surely the only 9-year-old girl who has the courage and the ability to take a Screaming' Jay song, imbued of this power, and rearrange it according to her sensibility and musical vision of her. I sincerely believe that this is perhaps the most beautiful version of this song made, in more than 50 years since it was written, yet there are dozens of versions, also sung by great performers. Angelina uniquely embodies the charm of naturalness and passion, she is an inexhaustible source of musical poetry.💛 🧡 ❤️

Many people are not aware that Sreamin’ Jay Hawkins was an opera singer and a boxing champ. He joined the army at age 13 using forged ID. He was a formidable opponent in the army and later in the airforce boxing circuits. He won several boxing golden glove awards mostly in his hometown of Cleveland. In 1949 he won Alaska’s middleweight title.
9 years old Angelina Jordan just delivered him a TKO. LOL
Thank you for your excellent reaction video of Angelina Jordan and keep up the good work.

I was shocked and delighted , as a musician and being around some great vocalist, no one of any age had the impact this girl has had , much less a 9 year old . Angelina is just a level of her own and has the bar so high over all, she is not soon if ever to be duplicated.

She does her own arrangements as others have mentioned and from a very young age the musicians she worked with respectfully just referred to her as The Boss. Just imagine being an adult musician with years and years of experience and then this young girl steps in front of you and does this. It must have been mind blowing to them as well. Very nice reaction by the way.

Terrific approach and commentary men! Angelina similarly respects and has "Angelina-ized" covers of Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Adele (as you know), Whitney Houston, Lana Del Ray, James Brown, Amy Winehouse, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, and many more. No one is off limits, no song too iconic. Angelina is fearless and has the musical IQ to hear these artists' work, decide what she wants to do then can both vocally and emotionally deliver! It is quite a thing to behold as you have twice witnessed!
As for "arranging" that is a hard one to define and I have no direct knowledge. There are interviews available with two guitar players who have accompanied her in studio and they speak of Angelina reading the lyrics off her phone, telling the guitarist to follow her lead, and the result is recorded magic after only one or two takes. That's just one view at her talent. There is another rehearsal video where she hums to the trumpet player what she wants him to play. One presumes her skills in this arranging area at 9yo are not what they are today but I would be hesitant to bet much on that contention. Keep it up guys, I look forward to your in-depth and professional reactions to Angelina!

Hello Guys ! Great reaction again :-) Yes, Angelina was 9 here, but BARELY 9..lol She was 9 years 2 months. Crazy stuff.
Can't wait for your continued discovery of the future G.O.A.T. of the music industry. I'm from Norway, like her, and have been following her closely since she won Norway's Got Talent at 8. (All performances except for the final, were done at age 7. She had JUST turned 8 at the final.) I'm not sure what would be the most correct way for you to go about, but I have compiled a few lists of her Norway's Got Talent entries, her originals and songs that were made specifically for her. Through these lists you will have a good mix of her oldest and also some of her newer stuff. Or, skip right to what she sounds like as of RIGHT NOW, and react to her cover of Adele's "Easy On Me" : ruclips.net/video/Mpw5Q76hWWE/видео.html She was 15 year old here, and is by no means a small child anymore. She's currently 16 years old as of January 10th and stands 6'1 tall (1m 85 cm) LOL Here are the lists :
Norway's Got Talent (In chronological order. You can see her front teeth grow from song to song...LOL )
    1) Gloomy Sunday (Billie Holiday) : ruclips.net/video/Mpw5Q76hWWE/видео.html
    2) I'm A Fool To Want You (acapella performance, and also originally by Billie Holiday) : ruclips.net/video/LXknLZDoRVQ/видео.html
    3) Bang Bang (originally written by Sonny Bono in 1966 and performed by his wife Cher, but maybe made MOST popular by Nancy Sinatra) : ruclips.net/video/HCaDyiqs7Wg/видео.html
    4) Summertime (by George Gershwin) This was her final performance in the competition : ruclips.net/video/443pBSpx5B4/видео.html
    Her originals :
"What Is Life" (Her very first original) : ruclips.net/video/Bv0r77KN7RA/видео.html
"Shield": ruclips.net/video/lQtUbVKb0vs/видео.html (A tribute to her family for all their support)
"7th Heaven" : ruclips.net/video/bM8DzMRbiIc/видео.html (Her second original after being signed by Republic Records)
"Million Miles" (she wrote this one to her grandfather that had recently passed away) : ruclips.net/video/3KxvwuZ7oEM/видео.html (Her first original after Republic Records signing)
"Oslo" : ruclips.net/video/MfWVcDQix4Y/видео.html (A tribute to her home town )
Songs made specifically for Angelina :
"Above The Water" (Dance, electronic !!!!!! YES, she can do it ALL, no cap ) :ruclips.net/video/y6SilwnR2Zc/видео.html
    "Song For A" : ruclips.net/video/Bo3mhxPM-uA/видео.html
Hope you find this of some help to get going. But no matter which song you choose, at any age, you just CAN'T go wrong. Rest assured :-)

Hi, Poolhallshark, I have to make a correction on NGT age, the semi-final was LIVE on April 19. And there are strong indications that the judges’s cut were early Feb (8?).

A wonderful reaction to Angelina. I've been around for quite a few years and enjoyed the vocals and musicality of a number of great artists. No one and I honestly mean no one has touched my heart and core like Angelina. There is something very special yet unassuming of this beautiful young woman. LIstening to and watching Angelina transports me to a place of love and warmth where the best part of me resides. She is without doubt my favorite all-time singer. Most talk about her incredible vocals with which I too concur. However, for me what makes Angelina so very special is the quality of her heart, soul and spirit and what is shared behind and beyond the words and vocals when she sings . You both are great. "out of respect, I'm going to take your song to the next level"
Possibly one of the most accurate descriptions of Angelina doing a cover song.
    There 2 upsides to this...
    1. there are 150+ more covers for you to sample and enjoy.
    2. she is only 16 now! At this rate, there are hundreds more to come.

The decision to get familiar with the original is ALWAYS a good idea when you're doing an Angelina cover. She has tremendous respect for the artists she covers, often singing in the same key. This is particularly evident in this masterpiece. The song doesn't even have a melody and ends with the ranting of a lunatic with a bone through his nose. This little girl makes it beautiful all the while paying great respect to Screamin' Jay. Add to that the fact that she arranges the music herself - or at the very least is intimately involved with it. - and you can get a glimpse of what we're dealing with here. She is almost enough to make me believe in miracles because she doesn't seem possible. Have fun with discovering her almost 8-year journey. It certainly is worth your while. You-ll be repeatedly shocked. 😎 Also, check out her Norway's Got Talent performances, her audition instantly went viral, and she has over half-a-billion views on RUclips alone.

This original song is actually excellent (though of course shocking) and I think Angelina was inspired not by the crappy TV show (where Jim Hawkins was apparently drunk) but by the version that came out on the record. ruclips.net/video/82cdnAUvsw8/видео.html
Also, the wordless melody that Angelina sings in front of the orchestra is taken from Jim Hawkins - this melody was heard in another TV performance ruclips.net/video/orNpH6iyokI/видео.html

You guys are different from most reactors and that's a good thing. I like how you research and gain knowledge of what you're about to watch. And as for Angelina, well where does one start. Simply put, she is the greatest artist I've ever heard and no one else even comes close to having the impact on me that she does. Bohemian Rhapsody was my first encounter with her and it brought me to tears(and still does). The emotion she sings with is unmatched. The depth in her voice is like no other. I once read a comment that sums it up perfectly, "she is the one I've been waiting my whole life to hear". I would suggest Bohemian Rhapsody next because you will then have heard 3 completely different singing styles and voices from her.

Thank you Jared and Jordan. Your conversation(s) and inquiry around and about Angelina Jordan and her Art are very interesting. You actually manage to get close to her singing magic, and talk about it, without intellectualising or schematizing it, but rather ruminating the depths from where it rises. If I were to describe Angelina with just two words they would be: Love and Compassion.
To me Angelina is all Love, her voice cuts through me like a knife and stirs emotion in me that I can hardly control. She may be just singing but she is really transmitting across time and space,
messages of Love and Connection that we sorely need. I look forward to following you both, thank you again.

Hi Angels J&J. This is a master class of how a reaction channel should be done. This deep delve into the song, the original artist and Angelina herself before the viewing makes this "reaction" the I best I have ever seen and I've seen hundreds. "She studies, embodies and shares"....one of the best comments ever. btw, I'm still using the term "duende" and thank you for that. You have redefined what a reaction channel is. You will learn so much more about this extremely rare individual as you venture through Angelina's videos. Each and every performance will give you a little surprise and many will leave you speechless. Here's the link for the interview she did at 9 years old discussing her book "Between Two Hearts" ruclips.net/video/-cCLDY0CSZ8/видео.html and her performance of "Unchained Melody" just before or right after the interview ruclips.net/video/wGjqXxQbFgA/видео.html Thank you Jared and Jordan for a very intellectual and thoughtful reaction! Angelina has worked with this band on several occasions. They affectionately refer to her as "The Boss", because she knows exactly what she wants, and how she wants it done. She has 5 original songs that she wrote or co-wrote (3 that she wrote when 11 and 12) She has 2 songs that were written just for her to sing. "Song For A" and "Above The Water". The latter was written by a fellow Norwegian duo called TRXD, that does EDM, and Angelina shows there is no genre she can't do, and do well. ruclips.net/video/rpdHJJQAd9Y/видео.html
As for the first one, "Song For A" from Nico Cartosio's album "Melting".
    The composers description:
"Song for A is the only song on the album. It is performed by Angelina Jordan, a very young and very talented singer. I needed a bright final for my instrumental album. After the series of cold hells and Melting itself I longed for a song of a liberated soul, a soul that was set free from suffering. So, I remembered a beautiful poem by Robert Burns^ and wrote this song especially for Angelina. And she gave a sensual performance." ruclips.net/video/Bo3mhxPM-uA/видео.html
Oh yes, Angelina plays 4 instruments, piano, guitar, flute and violin. I've heard she also speaks 4 languages, Norwegian, English, Farsi and some Japanese (she did a concert in Japan and sang a song in the language that garnered praise from all who heard it, video online) . Her maternal grandmother Mery Zamani, who is Iranian, was also a child prodigy in art and poetry and was married to a Japanese man.
This will be quite the journey, but one that will leave you admiring and respecting this young lady more with every song you hear. I just subscribed to follow this journey. Angelina's reactions are the only ones I watch.

You guys have done the most interesting reaction to this Angelina classic. Great job. Angelina is definitely NOT appropriating other vocalists, she is doing what every other singer in the past has done. Sinatra, Ella, Billie, Vaughn, Streisand, Elvis, etc. have all covered other singers songs, besides introducing original material. From the internet I found just this one example: “The Beatles' "Yesterday" is believed to be the most covered song in history, with about 2,200 known versions as of 2017.” You guys are spot on, Angelina studies, ingests, and I will add, rearranges it to her standards, then shares it with us. Forget being just 9 years old, at any age that is remarkable.

Probably the longest intro and most in-depth reaction I’ve ever seen, to an Angelina performance. The vast majority of the reactors to this particular performance are left speechless. You have an amazing journey ahead of you, and I suggest you go back to her performances on Norway’s Got talent. She’s amazing there and the “angels”
get to experience how like a fine wine she improves with age every year.
Some of her best performances are with a solo guitar or piano, but when she had a full band or orchestra, it only gets more amazing.
