    My neighbor gave me his old Pi 2 because he never uses it anymore. I knew I could depend on you to explain what I needed to know to make a media computer to control my old TV.
    You always make the best videos explaining computers of anyone on RUclips. Thanks a bunch!

      +Sebase Fernandez by the time you factor in the cost of a remote or wireless keyboard/ mouse and WiFi dongle, case, sd card, power supply; a Roku may be less expensive. Although there is a free Kodi remote iPhone app, and the Pi 3 has built in WiFi.

    I liked this video, it's very informative.
    * We will fix the font scaling / HiDPI issue in the installer soon enough. I understand it has caused some issues for some people.
    * We will hide the WPA keys in the future. Good point

    OSMC is probably my favourite distro--have been using it for several months or so, with a similar hardware configuration/setup. Although I had/have trouble with Samba share--could only use UPnP for streaming from my PC to OSMC.
    I decided to ditch the OSMC skin though, and personally use the Nebula skin, with the weather page selected on start up. Since I have it set to turn on with my 46" HDTV.

    An excellent tutorial. I have been using OSMC for quite a while but I found it to be too crash happy. So I reverted back to OpenElec and I am using Kodi helix which seems to have less issues. I do like the OSMC installation process though it is extremely easy to set up.

    • @samdev1994
      @samdev1994 9 лет назад

      DLiberator78 You should check your power supply. We're not aware of any outstanding bugs that could cause significant crashes. Did you try OSMC recently (the final version)? You may be pleasantly surprised.
      Sam

    • @DLiberator78
      @DLiberator78 9 лет назад

      It is not a power supply issue as I have used the same power supply when I used RaspBMC with very little issue. I'll admit I think I was using RC2 but I ran the update and assumed this would update to the latest version. Is this not the case?
      Thanks for your comment I will check out the final version. I must admit I really do like the look at OSMC and I use the conq skin. Hopefully the latest version is a bit more stable.

    • @samdev1994
      @samdev1994 9 лет назад

      OSMC consumes more power than Raspbmc and OpenELEC, particularly on Pi 2 models.
      Yes, RC2 would update to the final version. The final version was released on 28th June.
      As I say, we're not aware of any issues like this, but if you start a forum post on discourse.osmc.tv we'd be happy to take a look
      Cheers

      Heck yeah! You'll notice that I don't cuss on-line. Just got my PI 3 up and running tonight. My wife's Dell laptop got a virus in it and I cannot get it out. I think that it got into the EPROM chip and it won't let me update the security essentials. There's some kind of writing on the lower left of the screen. I tried removing the memory chips out of both banks and re-installed, but to no avail. Neither will it let me reload Windows 7. When I tried to do a full memory test, it only went to 10% and there it stopped. Guess I'll scrap it and take out parts that I can use, like the screen. I can use it for my PI 3 once I get a driver board for it. Wish me luck!

      +Kirk Nelson Yes, you should be able to access shared content on your network.

    My Raspberrypi 3b+ can't even open an .exe file. So how am I supposed to open an exe file for the installer to work with Raspian ?

      The installer does not run on the Pi -- it runs on a Windows machine to create an SD card that you then put into the Pi. :)
