Yup. That is basically his strength is his killer instinct. Once he feels he has the upper hand, he doesn't hesitate and go for it. That one game where he almost killed Reynor in game 2 was crazy. At that time I was sure Reynor will beat him easily but I was rooting for him to get one win at least it. But after that lost, he simply turn on a switch and never looked back. I've never seen Maru outplayed like that but he made so many mistakes he doesnt do usually, even for speedplay, it's not so fast besides other big games he won.....or even in defense. I watched an Oliveira's live stream yesterday, explaining his mindset during the whole IEM championship run, about how he phycallogically postured himself to the final success. Pointed out herO and Maru's mental brakedowns after losing him one or two games, made unusual and uncharacter mistakes. Explained his series of extraordinary decision makings and guessings in a very detailed, map to map way, which he still cannot believe it's true. In the live stream he constantly asked his watchers, "bro, can you believe it's me? If you hide the names, everyone will think the opposite." He outplayed everybody that day, and most importantly he became a better himself. It was really fun to listen to his reactions and he's still in disbelief.

Then he had to beat arguably the greatest Protoss of all time in herO, who also has the longevity which many neglect, o and also topped his group. her0 was also a 2022 GSL Champion. And lastly he had to face who many regard as not only the greatest Terran but overall player in sc2 with the longevity to boot and also topped his group, Maru. Falling one game down getting pressured in game 2, he miraculously came back and won 4 games in a row, beating all these former champions in succession. Oliveria is officially a feller of titans. One of the most emotional and greatest success stories not only in starcraft 2 history, but in esports tournament history.
After 7 years of not playing and resembling of Maru as a child watching him win G5L and rooting for him I thought he had it after game 1 but Oliveira did so great as a Terran it was amazing to see T take over this year and playing having so much fun

Seriously, i doubted Oliveira during the quarters and semis. Just started to believe in him after game 3. But should've seen his potential to be champ after he beat HeroMarine. Also, i want to thank the whole IEM series for rekindling my spirit to play SC2 again. The whole series brought excitement to my old heart...
Oliveira did an amazing job. He outplayed Maru in those 3 games both mechanically and strategically. It's very interesting that the mass Ravens were destroyed so easily with a good combination of libs, vikings, and marines with tank backup.
Oliveira didn't win by better micro or macro, dude won by taking initiative, doesn't even waiver for a second. He saw chances and just took it. Most TvT would be in a siege stand off and stalemate. Oliveira doesn't just let Maru do his thing, he either force an engagement or react instantly when Maru makes a move. It may look like Maru play bad, but that is because Oliveira just played too good, making the all the right split second decisions. Most other players even the top players would struggle against Maru as Maru slowly grinds them down. Oliveira never let that situation happen.
Yes, Time sucked in macro and decision making previously, which made him not competitve against top tier players. Don't know what happened to him after the tournament in Altanta. Look at his macro, especially reaction to split. I cannot believe, this is Time.

Game 4 was so impressive. He seemed totally prepped for Maru and knew he would do his typical tank drop. His reapers scouted the move-out, and then he saw the medivac path and intercepted it with a cyclone. And then his reapers counterattacked, so he shut down Maru's attack while also getting damage. And then he got a push together before Maru had time to rebuild and GG. amazing play

I am super touched he chose to thank all of us in English first, even if he believes his English is not good (it is!). And what a comforting thing to know his dad was so supportive of him, when so many stereotypes are presented of harsh, unforgiving Asian fathers. To see him decimate Maru as fluidly as he did shows how much he's grown. Hell look at the sweat glistening on his nose of all places in that last match.
This is one of the best matches I've ever seen, not just from a skill level perspective, but from the story and emotion behind the game! I love Maru and feel bad that he couldn't take the title, but Time/Oliveria blew me away the heart he put into the game. I used to hate watching TvT but seeing squads of marines suicide drop on top of tank positions so that the battle a screen away could be won was epic!

Wow, that was some God level playing from an underdog I've never even heard about before. While I was rooting for a Zerg win, this was still an incredible sight to behold. Can't wait to see how far Oliveira will go!
The last game is worthy of the championship finals. Honestly, never even heard of the guy, but it's true, that I'm just a casual enjoyer of these matches.
I watched Oliveira’s streaming explaining all his thoughts and choices from Ro8 to final (in Chinese from huya). He kept practicing 12-15 hours per day, played 700+ top tier games in one month, lost to top tiers again and again. Every time he gained minor advantage, instead of using his ‘barbarian punch’, pushing boldly and throwing the game like he used to, Oliveira played with extreme caution. He basically chocked Reynor and Maru to death, forcing them to make more and more mistakes, crushing their confidence, and won afterwards.
And one detail makes me laugh so hard was, he said -"bro, last time I won Maru in 2019 by 3:2 in a group match, look at Maru when I shake his hand. Look at this time, he uses both hands! I've never seen Maru outplayed like that but he made so many mistakes he doesnt do usually, even for speedplay, it's not so fast besides other big games he won.....or even in defense. I was surprised in every games....maybe not his day. But It's weird, and I'm clearly not a fan boy about SC2 players.

I watched an Oliveira's live stream yesterday, explaining his mindset during the whole IEM championship run, about how he phycallogically postured himself to the final success. Pointed out herO and Maru's mental brakedowns after losing him one or two games, made unusual and uncharacter mistakes. Explained his series of extraordinary decision makings and guessings in a very detailed, map to map way, which he still cannot believe it's true. In the live stream he constantly asked his watchers, "bro, can you believe it's me? If you hide the names, everyone will think the opposite." He outplayed everybody that day, and most importantly he became a better himself. It was really fun to listen to his reactions and he's still in disbelief.
Where'd you find this stream? Been typing different keywords into youtube's search bar and the only stream I've found is the IEM stream. Was it on Twitch?

I will relive this grand finals forever. Watching this unfold live was like a slow burn of disbelief. Every map he took off of Maru just made the situation that much more unbelievable. Truly a miracle story and a grand finals that should be remembered decades. I feel so lucky to have been able to take part in watching it happen.

- Standings: He showed up in the 21th place by EPT points.
- Group Stage: Almost fell right here, barely securing a 3rd place by defeating Clem and Cure (2:0), losing to Ragnarok (0:2) and losing against Dark and Neeb, but having managed to take crucial maps from them (1:2).
- Playoffs: Defeated the EU Terran final boss, HeroMarine (3:1).
- Quarterfinals: Defeated the EU Zerg champion, Reynor (3:2).
- Semifinals: Defeated the KR Protoss champion, HerO (3:1).
- Finals: As we saw, he overcame the Terran Final Boss, Maru (4:1), and went home with a sweet prize of $150.600 ($150.000 for 1st place + $300x2 for the two victories in the Group Stage).

As much as I’m a Maru fan, I’m moved by the wholesomeness of Oliveira.
Not often you see someone outclassing Maru. Oliveira played godly this finals, big gratz to him!
Wow! What a spectacular run by Oliveira! In the playoffs he had to beat Reynor, who is a huge young talent and has always been in form and was the top of their group. Reynor was also the champion of this tournament in 2021. And then to come back from an 0-2 deficit where the second game just came down to 1 baneling... Holy damn!
Then he had to beat arguably the greatest Protoss of all time in herO, who also has the longevity which many neglect, o and also topped his group. her0 was also a 2022 GSL Champion.
And lastly he had to face who many regard as not only the greatest Terran but overall player in sc2 with the longevity to boot and also topped his group, Maru. Falling one game down getting pressured in game 2, he miraculously came back and won 4 games in a row, beating all these former champions in succession.
Oliveria is officially a feller of titans. One of the most emotional and greatest success stories not only in starcraft 2 history, but in esports tournament history.
After 7 years of not playing and resembling of Maru as a child watching him win G5L and rooting for him I thought he had it after game 1 but Oliveira did so great as a Terran it was amazing to see T take over this year and playing having so much fun

Seriously, i doubted Oliveira during the quarters and semis. Just started to believe in him after game 3. But should've seen his potential to be champ after he beat HeroMarine.
Also, i want to thank the whole IEM series for rekindling my spirit to play SC2 again. The whole series brought excitement to my old heart...
Oliveira did an amazing job. He outplayed Maru in those 3 games both mechanically and strategically. It's very interesting that the mass Ravens were destroyed so easily with a good combination of libs, vikings, and marines with tank backup.
Oliveira didn't win by better micro or macro, dude won by taking initiative, doesn't even waiver for a second. He saw chances and just took it. Most TvT would be in a siege stand off and stalemate. Oliveira doesn't just let Maru do his thing, he either force an engagement or react instantly when Maru makes a move. It may look like Maru play bad, but that is because Oliveira just played too good, making the all the right split second decisions. Most other players even the top players would struggle against Maru as Maru slowly grinds them down. Oliveira never let that situation happen.
Yes, Time sucked in macro and decision making previously, which made him not competitve against top tier players. Don't know what happened to him after the tournament in Altanta. Look at his macro, especially reaction to split. I cannot believe, this is Time.

Game 4 was so impressive. He seemed totally prepped for Maru and knew he would do his typical tank drop. His reapers scouted the move-out, and then he saw the medivac path and intercepted it with a cyclone. And then his reapers counterattacked, so he shut down Maru's attack while also getting damage. And then he got a push together before Maru had time to rebuild and GG. amazing play
All the way, he defeats the best P, the best Z, and now, the best T. Now, he is the undisputed champion.
So happy to have witnessed this live! So awesome!!

My God Oli's so inspirational and humble. I am super touched he chose to thank all of us in English first, even if he believes his English is not good (it is!). And what a comforting thing to know his dad was so supportive of him, when so many stereotypes are presented of harsh, unforgiving Asian fathers.
To see him decimate Maru as fluidly as he did shows how much he's grown. Hell look at the sweat glistening on his nose of all places in that last match.

This is one of the best matches I've ever seen, not just from a skill level perspective, but from the story and emotion behind the game! I love Maru and feel bad that he couldn't take the title, but Time/Oliveria blew me away the heart he put into the game. I used to hate watching TvT but seeing squads of marines suicide drop on top of tank positions so that the battle a screen away could be won was epic!

Wow, that was some God level playing from an underdog I've never even heard about before. While I was rooting for a Zerg win, this was still an incredible sight to behold. Can't wait to see how far Oliveira will go!

This was such an amazing game, I give such mad props. His skill and timing . Maru was not prepared for it like olivera was.
I watched Oliveira’s streaming explaining all his thoughts and choices from Ro8 to final (in Chinese from huya). He kept practicing 12-15 hours per day, played 700+ top tier games in one month, lost to top tiers again and again. Every time he gained minor advantage, instead of using his ‘barbarian punch’, pushing boldly and throwing the game like he used to, Oliveira played with extreme caution. He basically chocked Reynor and Maru to death, forcing them to make more and more mistakes, crushing their confidence, and won afterwards.
Olivieras tvt all week was amazing. Idk what he's doing its like he unlocked some new build. Unreal.

At 27:10 Maru has 58 workers, but that drops to 30 workers at 27:32 when he finally breaks Oliveira's position in his main. Where did all these SCVs die? There didn't seem to be that many at the 3rd base location below the cliff, so it must have been somewhere else...
Yea if u look at the 10 o’clock there might be a drop. Nobody noticed it, Maru, the casters, and all the comments, even though this has been made into a clip. Doing multitasking in such a crazy situation! Very well played by Oliveira
Edit: I just downloaded and checked the replay. I was wrong. It’s a liberator, killed 20 scvs and a few marines. And there is another liberator at 6 o’clock killed 14 scvs. A habit like that and a shift command can win you the game.
I think it's a lib that shows up at the fully saturated base at 10 o'clock, you see a dot move behind the mineral line on the minimap at 27:00 (22:41 game time) and the worker count seems to be dropping at the speed that a liberator shoots.
