Bob Well's vids showed me that this was possible. Your vids showed me how to do it in a way that would bring me fulfillment. I've now been a full time adventurer and nomad for 2.5 years. Thanks sooo much for helping me make that happen.
At first, I was thinking..,"this is not my kind of place". By the end, I was thinking..."Hmmm, maybe we should try to go there some day". Beautiful photography!! The time lapse of the storm was amazing! The lightning strike...Holy Moly!! I think the collapsed lava tube is legit. Pretty cool to find that. As a kid, we had Western Meadowlark at our house. I love their song so much. It always reminds me of spring and makes my heart happy. Safe travels ❤❤❤

Beautiful footage Carrie. Your lightening catch is fantastic!! I especially loved the wildlife sequence with the bald eagle and lovely music. Take care and safe travels. 🥰🌿♥️
Lots of basalt (aka lava rock) in central and eastern Oregon. This is a cute little area. We got stuck in a super crazy storm in May 2022. I live in the Portland area and crossed over the mountains getting there but we had to drive around them to get home because they got a ton of snow. In fact it started snowing so hard we could barely see in front of us. A little scary when you’re brand new to driving a motorhome. I love the smell of sagebrush during a rainstorm. I also love the sound of thunder but you guys are smart for following your dog’s advice. You could hear the electrical interference on the recording. The lightning shot was incredible. There’s some cool geological features in that area. Fort rock is nearby as is crack in the ground.
May n June 24 stayed here. Thank you for sharing about this place. Awesome spot. Quiet. My dogs have loved the water. No cows here when I was here. Perfect weather. Clear internet on phone. I would say April thru June ideal location. Closest town for supplies in one hr away La Pine. There is no peak season here. Might have 2 overnight campers at a time. One camper here a week n rest campers here just overnight. A few fisherman here. They tend to cleaning the campground n pit toilet weekly, very well attended. The algae to the water comes into the water mid June. Only little rattlesnakes here in the outskirts if hiking.
I so enjoy watching your videos.❤ Beautiful footage Carrie. Your lightning 🌩️ catch fantastic!!! Glad you had a safe spot for Roodle A dog🐕 well taken care of.
Glad you mentioned the Merlin bird app. I’ve used it for a year now and love to be able to identify the bird calls as I relax on my deck in Estacada Oregon.
Very, very cool time-lapse video of the storm! The lightning looked like something from War of the Worlds! I love the walks and hikes you do; the music, your conversations and observations are all so relaxing, enjoyable and fun!
Have you ever gone to the Golden and silver falls in Allegany, Oregon. 24 miles miles in the mountains from Coos Bay. It’s about a mile and a half to hike in to the falls. There is 2 sets of falls. It’s beautiful!
I lived in burns as a child as well... but that was many years before you lived there...lol... It was all open range in the 60s no fences ... I love the smell of sage brush too... we lived in Baker too we even seen Clint Eastwood riding down our street on his horse while they were filming the movie Paint your wagon.... my mom and Aunt Cludia were all star struck and stood in the street (which was dirt) chatting with him for a long time... I was little (7) but already had a horse... I just loved his horse (I was a horse kid and had horses since the age of 5... and just stood there petting the horse... stay safe and healthy....Deb from South Dakota
Nice spot! I've done that drive a couple of times and thought it was so desolate. Thanks for showing us the beauty and wildlife in the area. You do see so much more when you are camping and not just driving through and staying in hotels. Thanks for the tip on the Merlin app Carrie! Meadow Larks have always been my favorite songbirds! That lightening frame was incredible, but I'm glad you didn't get a tornado.
I was a logging site watchman. Mostly Douglas County, Oregon. Remote places. Boring job, followed by moments of terror. One of the area I worked. Always the high ground. Berries were ripe, by my trailer. A Western Tanager bird was eating berries. A beautiful thing.
We just got back from our off grid cabin near the middle of Oregon in the high desert. I love my Merlin App. The Meadowlarks, long billed curlews and Sandhill Cranes being the most vocal this past trip. My coolest experience this trip was having a Northern Harrier circle me so close I could have touched it with my tripod. We stared eye to eye for a bit!
Beyond this Duncan location there is Ana Reservoir n Summer lake refuge n Christmas Valley all within 30 to 60 minutes from here This entire area is gorgeous. Open areas n also areas w ALOt of trees. Enjoy n keep clean!!!
I live in Oregon and will be driving back here after picking up my new custom van in Michigan this summer. I may have to check this place out, although I'd probably like it more in an off season.
I’m a little late on weighing in, too busy playing to keep up with RUclips, but that is absolutely a collapsed lava tube. Not unusual in Central Oregon…and around all of the Cascade volcanoes, like Mt St Helens. I love the sound of the Western Meadowlark, Oregon’s state bird. The high desert up around Bend is just spectacular, in a low key way.
