Being a starry eyed optimistic teenager hearing this when it was released, being front row and feeling his sweat upon me, to the bitter jaded middle aged crone I am becoming now. It certainly hits different. But I go back to pieces like this to recapture that hopeful feeling and remind myself that I'm still alive and there's still a chance for love.

I have no idea why, but the very first time I heard this song I thought of my four year old daughter growing up, growing strong, and finding love, and leaving her old dad behind. And it makes me cry every single time.

No More Shall We Part. A beautifully crafted collection of melancholic treasures. Dark, filled with the shadows of humanity, longing, loss and, ultimately, love. He was well and truly buried under 15 feet of pure white snow and this album was the result.

I'm convinced that a good deal of the magic on this song is in the wispy strings that wind through it. It's like some secret mystical beings weaving in and out. Can't quite get a handle on it.

Absolute perfection as far as I'm concerned.
Every scene in this music video has a certain desolate quality to it. Scenes you could only attach romance to in a certain blissful state of mind, when even washed-out highways and parking lots become meaningful.
And places like these don't seem "ugly" when this song is playing in your ears.

I've spent hours taking in the song's brilliance. Now take a look at the clip. The images are unbelievably thought provoking and the blue-yellow colour pattern after the first verse creates a motif that only accentuates the melancholy. I only realised the penetrating force of this motif when I was cycling in an unfamiliar neighbourhood around dusk (blue). The street lamps were turnt on as I was passing (yellow) and it instantly reminded me of the song, along with its heart-rendingness. Beautiful.
It is indeed an exquisitive video with a nice Jeffrey Smart touch to it. Evoking all these images of a long, desolate, lonely night with the abandoned heartsick lover waiting through endless hours, hoping and praying his letter will have the desired effect. The images of the storm in particular and how all the images match to the colour and timbre of the music, it's masterful.
Some of this clip was shot near where I grew up in Footscray and reminds me of sitting in my friends houses listening to the first Boys Next Door album. We idolised Nick Cave back then and we still do.
