I have on my TR pile 'The Garden Of Seven Twilights' by Miquel De Palol Translated By Adrian Nathan West. On top of this work is a novel you might find interesting that was recently reprinted titled, 'Divine Days' A Novel by Leon Forrest. Always enjoy your videos.

I was able to briefly thank Sean Cotter for his translations of Cartarescu and in doing so I also asked if there were any further translations in the works - especially of Orbitor - and he very diplomatically said that he has very little control of those matters. It's up to us to make it financially necessary for these presses to publish the rest.
Ioana Nicolaie, Cartarescu's wife, is also a writer and her work sounds fascinating as well. Maybe if we sweettalk - or threaten - the Romanian Cultural Institute they'll find enough money laying around...
@@Orpheuslament I've translated a little from the Spanish translation. But yes whole heartedly agree need to establish a go fund me for it and promotion for it as it is a must for the whole world.

oh, about george meredith, if you read "ordeal of richard feverel" you might want to find the original version--most of the editions out there are based on his radically-rewritten toned-down later version, but the first version, very resented by reviewers as it was, was much wilder, funnier, snottier, younger--luckily the modern library version, at least this one i have from 1927, states "the modern library reprints richard feverel from the first edition of the book, written in the full glow and vigor of his prime, that meredith excised in some of the later editions of the book."
something else with that glow is "modern love" which is a sonnet sequence of emotional minutiae meredith experienced when his wife ran off with a painter friend of theirs...it seems awfully good to me and doesn't get talked about much...(there's a lovely thomas mosher edition that makes it look for all the world like an edition of shakespeare sonnets)
That's very interesting the difference between the original and rewritten versions. I'll have to look out for the original.
I know of a few other major instances of this happening - Green Henry by Gottfried Keller, Jerusalem Delivered by Tasso - and I definitely prefer to have access to both.

@@Orpheuslament oh cool, i didn't know about either of those rewritings...i have to check my tasso to see which version was translated from....and ofc there's henry james' "new york edition" where he rewrote all his books into his ornate late-in-life prose style...imagine how much work that was, and then nobody wanted to buy the results--i'm not even sure what the availalbility of those versions is today; doesn't the library of america for instance revert the whole lot to the first edition versions?

Yes! That book has a rare, slow beauty. His essays on the Renaissance are lovely as well, less critical than imaginative. He deserves some attention for sure.
