- We've made no secret of our deep affection for the Winston BIII TH Microspey series. We've talked a lot about the 4 wt but in this installment we shine a light on it's big brother the 11' 6" 5wt. Perfect for large trout on mid to large size rivers as well as smaller steelhead in the same type of environs. Perfection comes to mind when fishing this rod.
if you are a trout guy, do yourself a favor and go buy the 3 wt with a hardy bougle 3 1/2'' ... put 35lb lazor line.. a 250 grain opst head and one of their tips on it ... i promise you..its worth every penny.
I’ve always put a tip on the end of my scandi body. Are you just going heavy on the head and just using a 1.5 ips leader or do you go with a tip on the end (something like scandi short versitip) and then a leader?
We like this head in a weight equivelent to a skagit you would choose for the rod. Absolutely smokes. no need for an extra tip.
What reel do you have paired with that set up. I have the 4wt MS and am wondering if the Cascapedia 6/7 would balance it well. Tight Lines!!
i bet a abel switch reel with a solid face would balance that rod well..
meze maccalman ya I like abels but love hardys.
agreed
I used Nautilus FWX 7-8, Hardy Marquis No.1 (7 3/4 oz), currently Loop Classic 5-8 on Winston THiii-MS 4wt . Cascapedia is similar to Loop classic, should be OK
I do think this reel would be a match, and a beauty at that.
