Honestly, this is perhaps the most definitive Hotel Mario moveset. Ytpguy17’s take is memorable, but it didn’t fully represent the source material. This one , however , does, and makes for a fun character to play. The doors and and elevators were a nice touch, helped setting Mario’s playstyle apart from his canon self, and fitting his stage control playstyle. The toaster was implemented well, and the Down special, while unexpected, certainly was a great move for getting rid of pesky affect. Of course the final smash was both funny and fitting at the same time. The cutscenes were awesome as well, having the vibes of early Lawl SSE, but with advanced, cleaner animation , and I really enjoyed the Bros fights with the villains (plus a brainwashed Konata), and their quotes, particularly Luigi’s new ones were were funny as well. Really looking forward to what your take on Konata is like, as well as other future Lawl content. Also, I have an idea as to who Bowser’s ship is hinting at. If that’s the case, I’m really looking forward to their reveal.
I’m glad there's finally a definitive moveset for CD-I Mario. The other ones I’ve seen either had rather uninspired moves, or also used elements from the DIC cartoons.
Feel-good, that is how I would describe this current era of Lawl Mad and its movesets. With animation and editing that’s truly exceptional, and move design that feels satisfying and faithful, for classic characters that warranted high quality representation. YTPGuys take will always be a touchstone of early Lawl, however it still never fully repped the CD-I source. This though actually does, and it's A grade stuff. Freaking love the utilization of both the regular and elevator doors from the game in Mario’s kit. It just feels right having them involved alongside Hotel Mario’s hefty, stage control focused playstyle. The toasters were also implemented very well and Ghost Cologne, though not as iconic, does make sense as it helps Mario get around the stage easier and counter certain effects. I could honestly see Hotel Mario as a good, solid starter character thanks to his reliable moves that give him an answer to enemy projectiles and assists. That plus all of the little extra bits with Gay Luigi make the two truly fun to use in team battles. Lawl Mad has been nailing it out of the park lately and I’m so excited to see what's next for it, whether it be Konata or the mysterious menace looming in the outro scene. Those intro and outro scenes btw, holy crap are so well animated. It’s like Classic Lawl SSE but with a modern, clean production. Hope these moveset videos continue to be fun and exciting to work on, because the feels of seeing them pop up when they do are just that. ……. Also I um, admittedly got more hyped for Van's brand new idle than most people would lol
What, ok i didnt expect this to be dropped that quickly, i love how the moveset is indeed based on hotel mario game itself, rather than the ytp side, i always wanted something like that for one of the CDI characters, and this moveset really fits in with him, great job as always
This was a very enjoyable moveset, it's always great when a Lawl MAD video is up! I really liked how the lore played out here, with the Hotel Mario Bros. facing off against Jafar and Cartoon Ganon (plus a presumably mind-controlled Konata). The main moveset itself was also a great delight, I like how it utilized both the well-known cutscenes and the main gameplay of Hotel Mario in the moves. The inclusion of the doors and elevators were interesting choices, as they help out with his stage control playstyle by allowing Hotel Mario to maintain a safe distance while also preventing others from reaching him through physical means or through projectiles. The rest of the moves were also nice, with the toasters being unique traps and the cologne helping out Hotel Mario in some aspects (speed) but also not making him completely immune to opponents. I also enjoyed the FS, it's funny with the giant fan sweeping Lemmy's cloud hotel to the battlefield. The animation was spectacular as always, I enjoyed the taunts and victory options a lot with the variety of animations being shown off, as well as Hotel Mario's stage being based on the first levels of the game. Plus Squidward's regular attacks in the KO sounds were also cool (namely the New Shell Cart and Captain Magma ones). I'm excited for what the future for Lawl MAD is like both in terms of the lore and with the next few movesets wrapping up everyone revealed so far!
Wow I did NOT expect a whole animated cinematic, but the second I heard the Superstar Saga music my heart got soo happy. The Bros are back babyyyy! You really portrayed them in a good light too, I appreciate that a lot. Also all the bits with Konata and Cartoon Ganon were really funny This moveset was wayyy stronger than I expected for a slower stage character I gotta say. I think hes kinda balanced well in that to open and close a door there is soooo much windup with the animation compared to dropping a toaster, which while faster, its also super easy to break. But its also real tiny so you gotta have something that can actually hit'em I love that both doors are pretty distinct to tell apart, and I love how of all characters its Hotel Mario who gets something of a teleport, you don't see those in Lawl that often pfft I can't wait to see what that giant ship ends up being- Lawl MAD story mode content?? Also when you showed the forest bit in the end I was totally expecting Leo to show up even though my knowledge of his source is limited-- Either way I'm really hype for Konata now lets goooo, you can do her justice!
I really like this Hotel Mario Moveset. Nothing Specific I have it’s just a Good Moveset. Tho, One thing I’m Happy is, Their is Stuff that Comes from the Gameplay of Hotel Mario instead of just It being all Cutscenes Stuff. I really like that
You have no idea how much I've been waiting for this moveset in particular. I've always considered the Toon Mario in YTPguy's Lawl to be the weakest of that bunch, with it being an amalgam of Hotel Mario and DIC Mario, and ending up fulfilling neither of those movesets. This one however, was actually not how I expected this moveset to be, but it was a really interesting take. I loved how the logic of him being sometimes called "Fat Mario" was translated into a slower character, and said slowness was given a purpose by making him a stage control character that took quite a few elements from the actual Hotel Mario game! The use of the doors and elevators seems to be incredibly fun, and this was the funniest implementation possible for the toasters. Final Smash was a highlight too, with him actually using the castle as a projectile! And like others have said, the looks of this Lawl keep getting better and better. What a great one, for real!
I’m glad to see Lawl MAD is back once more, and with another fantastic moveset too! I’ve always wondered how a different moveset for Hotel Mario that fully focuses on the game would work, and this set completely surprised me with each move! Neutral Special was a great choice, as it is what the entire game is based around, and I like how it’s been adapted into a very versatile stage control option to keep away enemies, projectiles, and assists. Side Special was at first an unexpected way to incorporate toast into the set, but it’s function as an anti-air trap that can be used to hit everyone at once made it undeniably cool. Up Special is on the simple side, but still makes sense thematically while being a subversion of doors that are still balanced because of that. And Down B is a unique buff and status effect counter put into one that seems very fun to strategize with. The Final Smash is well chosen and well made, and would be awesome to use as a overwhelming stage-dominator. The rest of the set is incredible, like Squidwards great attacks, the hilarious and/or iconic taunts + victories, the insanely good animation, and OH MY GOSH those intro and outro sequences were absolutely amazing! I think this set was definitely worth the wait, and this approach to Hotel Mario is nothing short of phenomenal! I’m very excited to see wether Konata or the certain interpretation of a popular Nintendo Villain get their moveset next. Great Job and Good luck!
Well now this was a surprise, but first, a few general thoughts on the last episode because I didn't find it until 3 weeks later, first, squidwards moveset was really good, not much I can say because I'm not a Spongebob guy, but he seemed good in terms of representation, and he looked fun to play and that's all I need, second, HOLY S^*$, did your animation improve by a country mile and a half because both of these movesets look fantastic and it's great to see you improving, third, I love the Marvel Vs Capcom 1 reference in the final smash. (At least it looks like one but who knows I could be wrong) Now on to the moveset the video is actually about, using the actual game instead of the cutscenes and YTP material I'd say was a good call and making Mario a stage control character like how the objective of the game is to close all the doors I think was also a great idea, the neutral, side and up B's definitely sound fun to mess around with and having the down B be a buff move to have more risk and reward definitely makes all the assets of the moveset work together well but if you're lollygagging and not trying to use them well, you'll end up losing the match and that's good, I don't have much else to say so... end of comment.
It's been damn near a decade since we saw him last, but our favourite CD-i incarnation of everyone's favourite Italian plumber has returned when the world needed him most, with his Enclosed Instruction Book in hand and ready to battle alongside his homosexual younger brother. This was a fun moveset. I am gonna miss said instruction book from his old moveset, but I am glad to see some of the other iconic Hotel Mario memes be included, such as "All Toasters Toast Toast" and "HEY YOU! GET OFF OF MY CLOUD!" Can't wait for Konata's moveset. Just please do not give her a minute and a half long Final Smash. Also that lore was interesting. Was Konata brainwashed or something?
This is like watching YTPGuy17 when i was a kid, but now all grown up. This is amazing.
