- The one and only Steve Jablonsky joins us for a fantastic All Access interview. We sit down and Steve shares his unique path to film scoring as he grew up in the Los Angeles area, and was surrounded by film from an early age. He tells the story of how he he phoned up Hans Zimmer's studio to see if they needed any assistant work and how he ended up working for Harry Gregson-Williams for a few years, and through that he learned the business from the ground up. Steve shares fun and inspiring stories from many of his scores such as The Island, Pain & Gain, Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, all the Transformers films, Steamboy, D-War, Gears Of War 2 and Desperate Housewives. This guy is single-handedly responsible for me getting into film score. His Transformers score was the 1st DVD I bought. His latest score, Transformers 5 is becoming one of my favorite scores to listen to.
Pain and gain is so underrated and different compared to his other stuff, one of my favorite soundtracks ever.
His work in Steamboy is the most beautiful thing I've heard
Steve’s compositions are amazing. What he does with sound is unbelievable. I would love to hang out with him.
Steve is a very modest, simple and not high-minded composer. This is a really successful person. I love your music, Steve! And I use your work as a reference! Thank you! :)
39:41 we notice, Steve. We notice. And we love that sh**!
This is the real stars of movies..
Fantastic interview! Steve seems like such a humble guy.
Love Jablonsky and his music. A genius.
Well, these days when you call some big studios, they will consider you as a hostile creature. I am so shocked and impressed in the same time that Zimmer gave him this opportunity easily.
I just made a cover of 'Our Final Hope' in Ableton and now I'm watching this. You are really inspiring man.
This was one of my favorite interviews. Steve is such a good guy, and also very candid. You get alot of real stories and information from him. We need more people like Steve Jablonsky.
Man steve is such a dope guy, i follow him on twitter and he's fellow nerd. He's a gamer lol This was an awesome interview next stop HANS ZIMMER baby
Steve Jablonsky is a master! An inspiration for all us musicians! Thanks for the video :-)
this man changed the quality of movies_music ..he's a genius ..
I liked the Last Knight Score better than the movie itself. Anyone else agree?
You and me both.
@Raycapone The Art Designer Same, but to be fair I actually felt bad for Steve cause he's clearly a very talented composer it's just a shame that his talents were wasted on these movies.
His scores for pain and gain and Deepwater horizon are amazing
One of my favourite music composer Big thanks Steve for all soundtracks You made! :) Greets from Poland!
Radoslaw Rozbicki Nie jestem sam :D
Thank you Steve for your masterpieces on The Island and Transfomers. I remember seeing T1 in the theater 2007, that scene when the Autobots coming to Sam after the crash landing one by one, the fog, the smoke with the heroic music blended in perfectly. My sister used your theme on the Island for her wedding when she walked down the isle .
He knows how to transform background music into a feeling like few people do.
There's the happy tracks in The Sims 3, the deep/darker tracks in Transformers, and many other different games/movies.
The only other creator that I met who did the same was C418 for Minecraft.
The rest (of games/movies/etc) is usually just a choice of music that doesn't exactly mean much and might as well not be there or be replaced by something else without issue.
But the masterpiece that this guy creates is on another level, the movies would not be the same without them.
What an inspiration! The reason why I got into producing filmscore, orchestral music.
How much soundtracks and music composing add to a movie, what an insane amount of work in the background... and yet here we have guys like Steve Jablonsky, down-to-earth, humble, friendly, like a guy from the neighbourhood. Not touched by Hollywood's "dark side".
Sometimes I feel sad and angry that such talented and hard working guys are in the background compared to the real stars... 😔
That Hans Zimmer story around 14:00 was awesome 😀👍
Laszlo Harsanyi but don't they shine brightest to you?
Absolutely, yup, you're right in that! 😉
1 hour and 24 minutes! It's a marathon! *grabs the popcorn*
Like your transformer's analysis a lot.
Big fan :D
He's composition in the Sims 3 is awesome
Love his music, i really like Transformers 1,2 and 3, D Wars and Ender's Game.
Steve is one Great Composer.
Yes I've been waiting for this!!! I grew beard longer than Steve has in this vid waiting for this All Access!
*grabs popcorn*
My favourite composer. His transformers scores are legendary. An extremely down to earth and cool guy. He should know that he as a lot fans. The Last Knight (2017) was the last movie in the Bayformers, a 10 year run, it makes me so mad WHY did they edit it down so much?! The full score for that movie is honestly one of my favourite scores of all time. It’s phenomenal. I don’t know if it was Paramount or Bay, but why do they care so much about the runtime! If the finished version was 3hr, and it would have been a streamlined, coherent movie where Steve could acknowledge that the score fit perfectly, WHY do you change? Was they scared because the backlash of Age of Extinction 2hr45 min runtime? Always thought the studio and Bay did their own way and didn’t care about critics. Makes me even more mad that we never got an extended/finished cut on digital or something. Paramount should know that Bayformers fans really wanted that.
Yeah, they really screwed up by trying to appease the people who didn't like these movies in the first place.
Steve is such a nice person! At least he seems really genuine and chill, and always very humble. Easily one of the most talented ex-MV/RCP composers, along with Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell.
He's one of the greats as far as I'm concerned, I just love his style.
I would love to see the whole Last Knight without its cuts just to see how the music played out.
I just wish Paramount would've released an uncute version, damn.
I believe that it honestly would have been the best Transformers film. I have always thought it was Paramount that forced Bay to cut it down, but here Steve says Bay did it in the last second. It makes me really sad, cuz I didn’t think Bay bothered listen to critics or audiences about the runtime. Okay, if the runtime is 3hr and that would have made the movie COHERENT and the music would have been perfect like Steve says it would, why not release it like that🙁 And the fact that there probably is an finished version that Paramount holds on to but not bother releasing shows how little they care...
Great interview, guys! Thank you so much for such a material. :)
Thank you for this! Been longing for a decent interview with steve for years now
Great interview, man! What a wicked Film Composer. Your RUclips channel is one of my favourites.
At 39:00 he talked about the music was in sync with the helicopter blades, which I remember the twisted the Arrival to Earth from Transformers 1 and made it even more emotional. However, the best music sync with sound would be the one in Transfomers 3, Dark of the Moon, the opening scene when the Autobots on the escaping spaceship. The music syncs perfectly with the machine gun sound. Amazing. You can check it here at 1:06 ruclips.net/video/AagPbW3cEt0/видео.html
The helicopter shot was perfect. It’s one of the few details I’ve always noticed!.
The opening scene didn’t have music when the guns were being fired
I love his The Sims 3 OST! I think it’s his best creation ❤
Interesting seeing his perspective on transformers. Such a great guy.
New All Access just a few days after the last one. Hell yeah
Thoroughly enjoyed this interview. Thanks for uploading :)
Great interview with one of the best in the industry! Gotta love Steve
Awesome! Thank you guys for providing this interview! Love Steve.
Legend!
He seems like such an awesome guy! Love his work!
Thank you for this amazing material!
I noticed the helicopter's blades sound and I watch that scene over and we ver again. It's great.
I love Autobots Reunite.
Arirang on DWars was absolutely stunning!!! Tessa as well
The soundtracks were by far the best aspects of the Transormer movies.
Would be nice if James Cameron lets you do the themesong for Avatar 2
All Access John Williams?
Steve Jablonsky Eccetto alcuni che conosciamo tutti gli altri sono delle brutte coppie di quaesto grande compositore che segna il solco della melodia e l'epico luga vita e grazie ( ; = ))
11:43 They took his yerb!
Background wallpaper in Venom
I know it is hard to believe but there are two guys named Steve Jablonsky who are both composers. What is the chance of that?
Pain and gain
I'm trying to find what software he uses for music recording? Anybody know? Love recording this style of music: ruclips.net/video/9l8sPinilIc/видео.html
Sims 3
Я люблю его за музыку к The Sims 3! В четвертой части музыка ужасна и жопашна, мне некомфортно играть без музыки, но иногда так не хватает мелодий Стива.
THE ONE !!!!! E BASTA ( ; = ))
who the hecc disliked this
He looks like he could be half Asian or maybe it's a Jewish thing.
Half Japanese to be exact!
He is not Jewish at all, he is half Polish (From father) and Japanese ( from mother)American. Jews don’t have Asian eyes, they have eyes similar to Arabs.
@@Wolf741000 _The last Israeli lady I met was quite European looking!_
Not to be rude, but it's pretty sad that the musician of his talent has been wasting his music on Michael Bay films all these years. Granted, he at least got big paycheck for those. So at least there is that.
EgocentricHead I understand that but imagine Michael bay without steve it would be even worse thats why I’m happy that he dis those scores
EgocentricHead at least he makes some pretty epic music for the films, though.
Shut up. Bays films are fantastic
Agreed it’s much better than the cartoon bumblebee crap
I actually liked the first transformers movie. The score was what got me interested in soundtracks. I don’t care for the rest of the movies, but love the soundtracks.
Since scores are mostly inspired by the movies, we probably wouldn’t have had those masterpieces if he hadn’t scored those movies.
