  • Last year I spent some time in Mansfield, MA photographing CSX operations there. Of two rail served industrial parks I focused on the Cabot Industrial Park that serves a few customers there. Of the handful of customers there was Barrett Distribution warehouse that received boxcars by rail from CSX. A couple months ago I heard they stopped receiving cars and sure enough last week their siding was empty and rails rusty. This video is of two separate times I filmed CSX going to/from Barrett before they stopped getting railcars.

The way the trees were brushing up on the train making it pop out of nowhere to cars makes it seem like it was already pre-abandoned.

Not quite abandoned, just neglected. Even when it was operating it was in dyer need of some TLC

Hate seeing a spur go out of use!

True, sometimes the spurs will sit abandoned for a while before a new industry is located on the line.

This reminds me of the old grafton and upton line in grafton, mass. It was always spoty for runs, but I hear it's up and running again. New England is full of these old spur lines, some now long abandoned.

This is sad. I’d noticed that there weren’t any cars spotted there lately and was wondering what happened.

Thanks for posting this. I always like the ones where the train is off the main line

We love older rails, dis-heartening to see them go. We wish there could be Fed money for short lines to repair the worst of these older rails. My father once told me ripping up old rail lines was a mistake, as if say there was a national emergency or war they would be needed. The Baltimore bridge collapse is a perfect example if there were rails there to rout around the bridge.

Hello first time seeing one of your vidos of csx rail keep them vidos coming when drove. For j.b.hunt they do a lot of bussiness with csx. In the rail yards in a lot of states.

It was amazing to see a pristine boxcar, untagged by graffiti thugs. 99% of graffiti looks like absolute crap

That RailBox on the first and Cotton Belt car on the second part was cool. Love seeing fallen flag cars from the past

FWIW, I work for a G&W railroad that ships salt from Morton Salt in Western NY in MWCX boxcars like the one at 1:40 in the video. Just pulled one out yesterday from Morton billed for Mansfield, MA. Idk if this exact location is where they warehouse salt for Morton but Morton has started shipping to some locations that have been offline for a bit like Mansfield.

It’s possible that those cars might now be going to a different rail served warehouse in Mansfield as there’s another one a few miles away.

I used to pass this line a lot when I was younger. Still love seeing it even if it’s not in service

I listen to my fair share of them having live 500 feet from the CSX double track line in Boothwyn, PA (10 miles SW of Philadelphia).

Why didn't he blow this horn. And did you see the hole in that unit's nose. Meanwhile, it's just as well that that line is closed. Those tracks looked horrible.

Spur is not in horrible shape, and horn not required if protected on the ground.
