Actually, I thought this was very good. I particularly thought that it was direct and to the point in the case of an actual national emergency. In the case of nuclear war we would have probably had a news build-up anyway. I liked that the President's message was computer-generated, as he would have been in an underground bunker by then anyway. This is probably the only warning that you'll ever have in case of war.
If this scenario happened for real in December of 2023, the missiles launched by Russia would hit the following cities (event cancellations in parentheses) [teams in brackets {with reason and aftermath in braces} (team names separated by a semicolon)]: Seattle (2024 NHL Winter Classic) [Kraken {arena destroyed, relocate to Albuquerque (New Mexico), change nickname to Aliens}; Mariners {stadium destroyed, cease all operations}; Storm {arena destroyed, relocate to Salt Lake City (Utah), bring back the Utah Starzz}] Las Vegas (Super Bowl 58) [Golden Knights {arena destroyed, relocate to Kansas City (Missouri), change nickname to Scouts}; Raiders {stadium destroyed, relocate back to Oakland, change nickname to Wildcats}; Aces {arena destroyed, relocate to Tulsa (Oklahoma), bring back the Shock}; Athletics {(new) stadium destroyed, relocate to Mexico City, change nickname to Aztecs}]
I miss the Soviet Union. Things were simpler back then. You knew who the bad guys were. There were rules. USA good. Soviets bad. I know in real life, it was far more complicated, but to a young teenager it was simple.
That’s because it’s how every day would end. In the 80s, as late as 1987 (it could have even been later than that), broadcast tv ended at like 2:30 am and didn’t come back on until 5:45 or 6:00 am. Every day the National Anthem would play and then beeeeeeep
