This is just astonishing - the piece, Hamelin's playing, the orchestra - all is perfect!

The conductor is Kent Nagano, he is the chief conductor of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal).

The orchestra is MONSTROUS on this. Seeing the string section so perfectly in sync like an army of cyborgs is almost surreal. Props to them and that conductor. Hamelin is also a technical object of worship, of course.
That said, I don't think I like the Concerto itself that much. Bit too bombastic for my taste perhaps?
Also, 7:44. Looks like someone dropped a mic :D

Yangshensensen there's extraordinary skills at work on both sides. For me, I've never been in love with the concerto as a whole, but parts are still startlingly original (the first eight minutes or so), so I find it gripping if I keep a distance, only taking it out for a reason. Hamelin being one. Or Richter, who plays with such intensity it's unimportant how silly the March is.

Why is the piano wearing a case?

Just the soloist deserves credit, not the orchestra and the conductor?
