I've got a dominator, wish I had a nexus, mainly because of the software. Both are very capable ECUs. The holley is easy when it comes to basic functionality, but frustrating to get custom things done like wheel speed traction control. The way their custom tables work feels more like hacking the system rather than intuitively giving access to functionality. The haltec has built in functionality for common stuff like that, and custom functionality is easier to set up and doesn't feel like a work around like it does with holley. Holley's tech support is beyond bad, TERRIBLE to the point where i was completely cock blocked by their incompetent tech team before when trying to report a bug. As a last resort, i finally directly messaged one of their engineers on Facebook to report a software bug. Things went smoothly after I contacted the engineer, but damn.
I was at PRI when Haltech unveiled the Nexus R5, and thought that would really put pressure on Holley to make some improvements. Still, I like Holley because they're local (FJO), and I know a bunch of engineers there...
If you think when the dominator came out and realize what the processor was back then its not even a fair comparison. Iirc, the dominator came out in 2010 ish. Holley said it was state of the art processing. The haltech r3 has a 240mhtz triple core processor with 2 reduncy. What does that mean. The cam and crank signals take up the majority of the processing power. When manufacturers put in new software features and functions , it will slow down the processor drastically. Does the processor make it a better ecu is the question. If you're still rocking your phone you had in 2010, then probably not.
this video couldn't have come at a better time.. literally been searching haltech vs holley for the past month trying to find something to help me decide.. figured I'd end up being the first one to make a video lol.
We have a list of builds that will all run HOLLEY EFI - BUT - HALTECH controlled (hopefully - we can purchase the 4500 X at a reasonable price without the ECU) - planning on running the TERMINATOR X 4500 style on some 572 and 600 cu in street engines.
I would like to run Haltech on my Ls. The one big thing Dominator has going for me is trans control of my 4L80E. Im wondering what people are using to contol their 80s when not running a Dom. or Term.X?
The Haltech has Transmission Control built into the R3 & R5. They have also came out with the terminated harness for the LS also. Send a email for pricing and availability at lcrperform@gmail.com
What about Holley pro dash/touchscreen/virtual switches controlling outputs instead of a row of buttons. You can have up to 10 virtual/touchscreen switches controlling …whatever!!!
This is true but you cannot have multiple map changes as the car is running in live time. Holley you have to shut off the car to save the change and re-fire. Haltech can have up to 3 keypads if desired also.
I don't know on which part of the world you are, but I sent to Haltech several email if they have any ecu available for a motorbike. Specifically for the R1/MT-10. They didn't even bother to answer by saying F.O. Where is that magical customer service you are talking about? I asked them about R5 and R3. Nothing at all
I have been contemplating these same questions for the last year, and you have helped me make my decision. Thank you
No worries, glad we can help!
The wiring data on the Haltech is a game changer for diagnostics.
Great Video, Just want to add that the Haltech pD16 does have 8 inputs as well!
$3300 Holley ECU
$400 harness
$320x2 ($640) NTK
$500 inj driver
$340 G meter
$200 MSD solid state relay
-----
$5880, not $4880
was just shopping around pretty set on nexus r3 this sealed the deal for me

Holley is not capable ecu at all

Can't wait for more videos related to the Haltech Nexus :)

Does the Haltech have transmission controls yet?
I think the total cost for the Holley was not added up correctly.
Can't compare the two, 😅
The dominator can run 16 injector . 8:2 peak and hold built in
Would you do HalTech vs FuelTech?
Can certainly look into doing that video in the future.
@@lcrperformance good deal and also I’ll be contacting your guys shop this Friday.

where are you getting prices the dominator is $2,675 from holley? the hp is $1.647..
$3,300 is the light weight version of the dominator
I think your math is off. Where you have $4,880 for the Dominator, I get $5,880.
Hey Lucas, your math is off a smidge on the holley column.
