  • On today’s episode, Andrew is joined in the studio by Joel and Luke Smallbone, who together form the highly successful singer-songwriter duo for KING & COUNTRY. Together they talk about their upcoming film, Unsung Hero, which is based on the story of their family’s immigration from Australia to the United States in the early 90’s. The brothers also take us into their beginnings as a band, converse about the inner-workings of family and faith, and give their takeaways as creatives and storytellers through both music and film.

Great podcast Andrew. I really enjoyed hearing the journey you took us through. The movie was so moving. I think I was weepy for close to half an hour after the movie finished. There was so many moments that were powerful and emotive throughout the movie. It completely had me undone. It makes you go back through your own life of trials and how you faced them. How God met you in your darkest hours again and again. To watch the faith of Helen and the humility of David finally aware of himself being the one in the way. His father’s words coming back to him later. The brokenness he felt then Helen drawing him back to continue their faith based journey was powerful. We all as Christian’s make mistakes but it’s what we choose to do after we finally see it wake up to it that matters. Moving out of the way and let God in is the most powerful thing we can do. The kids were fabulous. I loved them all. It was a real journey of faith discovery for the whole family. Everyone grew and drew near to Jesus in prayer and it is the most amazing feeling when you see your prayers answered. One of the things all my 3 kids remember from our days of faith are that it’s all about choices. We can take the more comfortable path of least resistance and be safe or we can trust and believe God will make a way even when we can’t see a way. It will cost you but you may just soar on eagles wings if you commit to taking that step of courage and faith that God will bring you through to greater heights. It’s empowering and life changing and we grow stronger and closer to God through our trials. We become our better selves. 😊❤️❤️

We saw "Unsung Hero" several days ago. I cried for about the last 20 minutes of the film. The pivotal fact of not only children believing in their parents, but also parents believing in their children touched me so deeply. It is something that is almost impossible for me to comprehend with the background l come from. There were lots of thoughts about the "what ifs" of my life, not even consciously, but an overwhelming feeling of awe. But in my mind the greatest approval came from my husband. "I could go see that again," he announced, as we were walking out of the theatre. He never says that. So I knew "Unsung Hero" was truly as good as l thought it was. Many blessings on you and may many people see this movie!

I have seen Unsung Hero twice. The second time I went by myself. I cried when church members gave them Christmas presents presents, including a washing machine.

God only knows makes me think of a friend who was going through a struggle back in the early 1990’s.

"Luke Smallbone, I am your father."
(Yeah, I know I commented this once before, but it 'never' gets old. Perhaps. Can't get much more unified multiverse, vocationally for sure, than what Joel pulled off.)

I had suicidal thoughts on a night in 2017. The songs that became mine and carried me through the night and helped save my life? 😭 It’s Not Over Yet and Shoulders! 😭🫂
