Got into a nerf war with my nephews. Ran through the house and turned off all the lights then blinded the hell out of them with my tactician. Cant say it's the best self defense light but it's useful for distracting teenagers when you shoot foam at them.
I've had mine for a little while and really like it. The only thing I changed, or use differently from the factory, is the batteries. I used the 16650 rechargeable battery and simply love it. Great light, great review.
Thank you for this video! I replaced a LX2 Lumamax with the Tactician light because it had a less aggressive bezel, a less prominent activation switch/button, and it was significantly shorter in length. The Tactician was a near perfect choice, except that it didn't give the option of reversing the pocket clip. I had several extras for the LX2 laying around and didn't even think to see if they were compatible with the new style clip that came stock on the Tactician. After watching your video, I now have the perfect EDC light. Thanks again!
Nice light, looks super bright in the video. I don't own an mostly American made light yet. But after watching your video. I'm considering this one. Thanks and great review.
The Streamlight PROTAC has a 500 lumens option with three modes at the touch of the rear button. High, Low and Strobe. The price point is almost a third cheaper and it still provides you with a quality flash light. I’m a military dude just for those wondering about my background.
The 6PX Tactical that you said had a TIR lens doesn't have a TIR lens. That's just an standard orange peel reflector. You are correct though that OP reflectors and TIRs do allow for better spill.
I tend to gravitate towards more candela than the large amount of spill. I mean, I still want some residual spill but I prefer also having a solid hot spot
Just got a surefire stiletto pro and I'll never go back. It's an awesome light. Way better than my olight warrior mini 2 or older Streamlight 1L-1AA. The olight is a better work light but I had too many issues with the tail switch to rely on it as a defensive light. The Chinese brands may push innovation but they can't hold a candle to brands like surefire in terms of quality.
ooh i was waiting for this video since you hinted at it from the edc2l-t vid! the tactician is my favorite light for edc. i like that round beam pattern without a tight hotspot. i wanted to love the e2d but the crenelated bezel and tailcap, the mode switching, and it doesnt like rechargeable batteries kept it more of an emergency light than edc light for me. i like that you tighten or loosen the head for the mode you want on the tactician. i do like the momentary/constant tailcap but sometimes i do want a clicky. no big deal, you can buy one. i kind of want to try the malkoff devices body for it. so i like bezel down carry as well so i put the head and tailcap from the tactician on my e2d body and got what i wanted. couple days ago the 2 way pocket clip snagged and broke. surefire is sending me a new clip so i switched the head and tailcap back to the tactician body for now. that clip sure is sturdy but i dont like head up. if you own both you could probably put the tactician head on the edc2l-t body for a slightly smaller light...or not. theyre both great. i like the tactician because its smaller overall size and i already had a body for it
All the people in the comments whining that they don’t like James Yeager, they don’t like the clip, they don’t like that it doesn’t take rechargeable batteries or have a clicky tail switch. Don’t buy it then, but all those features were added for a reason. Idk why Yeager prefers bezel up, I think it’s so you can notice if it accidentally turns on so you don’t waste your batteries, and he said it shouldn’t take rechargeable batteries because when they get old they lose their charge faster, and he believes you should have fresh lights in your defensive light. It’s not meant for utility, it’s made for gunfighting. I don’t agree with everything Yeager says, but he designed a damn good tactical flashlight.
Hi Mr gungear I was wondering how these relatively small light such as tactician and edclt2 manage the heat produced do they dim it after a preset amount of time or by a heath sensor Thank you sir nice review
I like mine quite a bit. My only gripe is that the twisting of the front and rear makes it virtually impossible to switch between high beam and low, and between constant and intermittent with one hand. Other than that, outstanding tactical light
In close range it may even have an advantage with blinding. A flashlight with a high candela has a very small hotspot at short range so you have to exactly hit the eyes with that small hotspot. With this light it would be such a problem.
I saw a. Old Yeager video where he a ha key ring on the light for his pointer finger. It seems quicker and the string and allow you to flip the light over your hand to get it out of the way. Seems like a pretty good idea to me. Thank you for what you do!
I have a few Surefire flashlights. The Tactician is one I overpaid for and wish I had not. The other ones were a lot cheaper and don't eat batteries so fast. Maybe if you need to blind astronauts in outer space this one is for you.
I just bought one yesterday and I’ve already used it some, the low-output satisfied all my needs so far. The 95-hour runtime make using low-output seem really attractive whenever possible.
How can I search for the two-way pocket clip you showed that was so long? The clip on the EDCL2T doesn't look as long. I like the idea of putting a longer, deep carry clip on the Tactician.
If you had to pick between this or the edc t2 what would you pick? I'm looking at ordering one or the other this week and it's a tuff call. I like the smaller size of the Tactician. But the output and throw of the t2 is really impressive. Would be mostly used for edc, ovbs with the small chance of needing it in some kinda self defense. Simple civilian here. Solid video btw, well done.
Man I wish they would make a hybrid between the tactician and the edc2lt. Make it this size but have the clip, controls and reflector of the 2lt and change the 5 lumens to 20.
Fantastic video, i bought the s- f backup from the video you did on that . Love the light. Will get this one as well.... also very interested on the watch your wearing, what is it if you dont mind. Thank you
My week old barely used streamlight macro stream is already flickering...... May upgrade but surefire if more than twice the price.. is it worth the price jump?
I actually have a lot of respect for James Yeager. Someone once posted a video on RUclips that he's a coward, and claimed the video proved it. Instead, it just showed him taking cover behind a Hummer that was being shot at; and refusing to leave the side of a wounded soldier. I guess the fact that he took cover was somehow a cowardly act?? RUclips deleting his first channel was just BS. However, he does have very strong beliefs regarding certain subjects. And absolutely, stubbornly won't budge on them. (Ask him about his thoughts on civilians buying affordable Gen. 1 night vision gear to add to their systems. Or, even worse, his thoughts on _any_ external safeties on handguns.) This light came about because of his stubbornness. There are tons of lights on the market that can be used for the very same mission the Tactician was designed for. But Yeager won't use anything that isn't SureFire. Even though, SF has had serious issues in the past. And the company tends to be slow in fixing them when they do pop up. Namely older style E-series clicky tailcaps that used to crack and break on the inside, rendering them useless. The older momentary only E-series tailcaps work perfectly well though. SF re-designed the inside of those clicky tailcaps. Then their once very popular U2 model. A light about 10 years ahead of its time, that began horribly malfunctioning late in its production cycle. Customers getting DOA U2s, or ones that broke very soon afterwards. Sadly SF fixed that issue by simply discontinuing the U2. Even among SureFire's offerings that can do the very same mission as the Tactician.... Yeager thinks the EDCL2-T is too long for pocket carry (it's not, I own one; I've pocket-carried it with no issue). And that the clip is on the wrong end. Still, you get 1200 lumens out of a light with more reach than the Tactician. The shorter EDCL1-T solves the so-called pocket carry issue. But again, clip is on the "wrong" end. Also, you can tell a difference between 500 vs. 800 lumens. Though from a practical perspective, it's really not a huge one. How about the latest version of the E2DL. You can easily track down an older one that has the bezel-up carry-clip and put that one on there. Now you've got it set up the "right" way. And you've got 1000 lumens instead of 800. But Yeager doesn't like the scallops on that model, and you get a forward clicky switch, instead. Honestly, the Tactician came about because Yeager is just too darn picky. That's what it boils down to. I've seen guys try to make the Tactician bezel-down carry. With limited success. A better option is just to get the SureFire EDCL2-T instead. You get a brighter light with much better reach. It's not that hard to simply sweep it across in front of you if you need to. As far as the lanyard set-up on the tactician, realistically; when are you going to have the time to stop and wrap it around your hand when a threat immediately presents itself?
I'm torn between this light and the edcl2t. I have the older 500 lumen eb2 and carry it most times so I'm leaning towards it's 1200 lumen monster update, but I do like the tactician too
I own both this and the edc2l-t, ended up selling the tactician. While i really liked it, the extra throw and lumen output the edc provides helps overcome ambient light in an urban setting. The size is the only real benifit the tactician has imo, but even then edc2lt not that much bigger. If sure fire were to remake the tactician without the MV beam and a beam like the edc, THAT would imo be the ultimate handheld combat light.
Daniel Morgen how is the xc1b? Hardly any reviews on the B model unfortunately. I believe this might be in part due to surefire falling behind to streamlight and Inforce in that compact weapon light category. I still have a thing for the xc1, I just know the first model was a piece of crap and can't find hardly any reviews on the b
Great review of the Tactician I picked me one up, wish I could use it bezel down but not a deal breaker. I’ve been using a Keeppower 16650 in it, but I was curious and called Surefire and asked them could I use 2 RCR123’s in it, and the reply was ~yes~ you can without it harming the light. Is that a Garmin Fenix 3 HR watch that your wearing in this video? I have that watch is cool as all get out.
The first thing I thought when I saw this was I wish it had a different clip. With all the lights Surefire has though would you be able to steal a clip from a different light, or is the body design too different? Edit: and I got to that explanation point in the video, thanks
Looks like a good light but too bad James Yeager said it can *only* be bezel up when he helped design it. I believe this light is also only non-rechargeable battery capable.
Mrgunsngear Channel I love my Garmin Fenix 5....I wear it to work, gym, running, outdoor camping, ect. You should do a video on yours!!! Most of the reviews on the market are from either tech or running guys.
Just because it can be put on a weapon doesn't mean it should. Weapon lights are designed to withstand recoil and allow the battery/batteries to move freely without breaking the connection. Putting a light on a weapon when the light wasn't designed for it is risky and could break the light or weaken it causing problems down the road. Be careful.
I love the look and quality of Surefire lights but I just can’t justify buying one based on price and runtime. Having said that, I’m a bit of a Streamlight fanboy. High quality lights with great runtimes for EDC use and just the right amount of features.
Personally I think Surefire lights are way overpriced. I found a light that performs just as good for much less. You can purchase everything with the light, including rifle mount and the switch for about $ 120. The only difference is, light is made in Japan, but the quality of the light is outstanding. I’ll take Jetbeam over Surefire any day. If you ask why, I can buy 3 Jetbeam lights for a price of 1 Surefire light. However, great video.
You can buy flashlights with lower price tags, but when your life is on the line, do you want to take that chance? Surefire is built to last, and they're an American company that stands firm behind their products and their customers.
You see a threat, life on the line and you go for your flashlight? Then what? Drop it and go for your gun, to late your dead. Dont tell me you need to identify your threat.are you in the middle of the jungle?
Olight has a lot of lumens which is good for blinding people. Sure fire and streamlight have a lot of candela which is good for lighting things up far away. I can see things farther with my 800 lumen streamlight than I can with me 1,200 lumen olight because the streamlight has more candela
Meh. Yeager designed?... meh. 800 lumens for the price of TWO Fenix or Surefire or O-Light or Nitecore 1,000+ lumens lights?... meh. Purposely designed NOT to use rechargeable 18650 batteries?... stupid.
I understand. I've been taking tactical / low-light classes for years. But there's nothing magical about a 800 lumen light compared to other lights that have verified higher output at a lower cost. It's a light, not a lightsaber.
A James Yeager light?😂😂😂 Just give me a light with a goddamn on/off only tail switch. Only wannabe tactiturds like Yeager need a gazillion settings on their lights, ribbing for his pleasure, uncommon batteries and unnecessary bulk and doodads. I wish Streamlight had a stylus pro that took AA batteries.
You train someone to fight in the mostly likely situation they're going to be in. That was the whole point of his actions. Hes even stated this. He makes people with prosthetics, wheel chairs, cain ect. fight with out them. Because that's the most likely situation they're going to be in. If you didn't understand that, now you do. Its not being an asshole or a bad instructor. Its being a realistic one.
You act like they have total control over all his action. They're instructor not God. And why don't you take one of his classes before criticizing him. Costa, Vickers, SuperDave, John L, Travis Haley ect all respect his training and mindset so why don't you? Just hating is what it sounds like man.
Got into a nerf war with my nephews. Ran through the house and turned off all the lights then blinded the hell out of them with my tactician. Cant say it's the best self defense light but it's useful for distracting teenagers when you shoot foam at them.
Just practicing for a real life scenario!
Hello, I am finding the US reviewers for small flashlight, grow light for indoor plants and
handheld loupe. Tell me if you are interested.
I've had mine for a little while and really like it. The only thing I changed, or use differently from the factory, is the batteries. I used the 16650 rechargeable battery and simply love it. Great light, great review.
Hello, I am finding the US reviewers for small flashlight, grow light for indoor plants and

I agree with you about the clip, I prefer bezel down. So I got an EDCL1-T.
That's what I have and its damn near too bright as it is if using in the house. That's what kept me away from the tactician.
I do too, I have the Tactician. I wish it was more deep-carry too, but I’ve been carrying it bezel down with the lanyard hanging out of my pocket.
Thank you for this video! I really like the way you present gear. You always make it simple yet thorough. Thanks!
I like the Tactican over EDCL2T. Tactician's beam quality is excellent.

Surefires rule. I got issued one in 2012 and deployed with it and had no issues 👍

Need an edc2 in a tactician body.
I tend to gravitate towards more candela than the large amount of spill. I mean, I still want some residual spill but I prefer also having a solid hot spot
Been using it since January and it is my personal choice for a EDC light.
Rick Anderson same here. Love it.
Anything you would change ?
RandomGunGuy not a thing.
Only thing I'd change is rechargable
Just got a surefire stiletto pro and I'll never go back. It's an awesome light. Way better than my olight warrior mini 2 or older Streamlight 1L-1AA.

I like my P3X Fury with the Intellibeam technology. I carry it in a holster on my belt and it works great.
ooh i was waiting for this video since you hinted at it from the edc2l-t vid!

NSR just came out with a kydex sheath (bezel down) also amazon has this light now for $89 02/11/19
The NSR flashlight is also compatible with any light that is 1 inch in diameter
Got it. Yeager light. Perfect.
My Surefire stiletto isn’t as bright but I love the usb rechargeable feature and 3 light levels and it carries in the pocket super flat
All the people in the comments whining that they don’t like James Yeager, they don’t like the clip, they don’t like that it doesn’t take rechargeable batteries or have a clicky tail switch. Hi Mr gungear I was wondering how these relatively small light such as tactician and edclt2 manage the heat produced do they dim it after a preset amount of time or by a heath sensor
Thank you sir nice review
I like mine quite a bit. My only gripe is that the twisting of the front and rear makes it virtually impossible to switch between high beam and low, and between constant and intermittent with one hand. Other than that, outstanding tactical light
I'm ordering one! Great video as always!
In close range it may even have an advantage with blinding. A flashlight with a high candela has a very small hotspot at short range so you have to exactly hit the eyes with that small hotspot. With this light it would be such a problem.

I find the button takes some getting used to, but overall a pretty neat flashlight
I knew you'd come around on the Surefire lights. Thanks for this video. I love Surefire. 😃🇺🇸
If it's got yeager's name on it then you know it is going to be the most tactical, most badass light on the planet....
Awesome flashlight! Thanks for sharing.
I have a few Surefire flashlights. The Tactician is one I overpaid for and wish I had not. The other ones were a lot cheaper and don't eat batteries so fast. Maybe if you need to blind astronauts in outer space this one is for you.
I like just single output lights. Just keeping it more simple. Fore example the g2x tactical
That's a nice light!!! Good review.
Great Review. Appreciate it.
Now it's $208 USD. Damn inflation
Again great review 👍🏼.
What people don't understand is that surefire's 5lumens is a lot brighter than other companies that also do a 5 lumen output.
I’m debating between the same two now and not sure which one
Man I wish they would make a hybrid between the tactician and the edc2lt. Make it this size but have the clip, controls and reflector of the 2lt and change the 5 lumens to 20.
Great review. It seems Surefire does not supply carrying cases with any of its lights. True?
Great upload. Thanks again!
Honestly, the Tactician came about because Yeager is just too darn picky. That's what it boils down to. I've seen guys try to make the Tactician bezel-down carry. With limited success. A better option is just to get the SureFire EDCL2-T instead. You get a brighter light with much better reach. It's not that hard to simply sweep it across in front of you if you need to. thanks for the report

You're Welcome. *:)*
Does surefire make a light like this size with high candela but still pocket friendly
Solid review sir.
The MV beam isnt for me and lacked there, the flood on the edc while not as great tactician is still pretty close to the same imo, but you get the added benifit of throw. The size is the only real benifit the tactician has imo, but even then edc2lt not that much bigger. If sure fire were to remake the tactician without the MV beam and a beam like the edc, THAT would imo be the ultimate handheld combat light.
I just got mine about a week ago... I really do not like the bulb up though. It makes a good pair with my XC1B too 😸
Daniel Morgen how is the xc1b? Hardly any reviews on the B model unfortunately. I believe this might be in part due to surefire falling behind to streamlight and Inforce in that compact weapon light category. I still have a thing for the xc1, I just know the first model was a piece of crap and can't find hardly any reviews on the b
+HURT 1 The first A model broke on me in less than 1000 rounds, sent it back and they gave me a B model... Time will tell.
Daniel Morgen what all did they change on the b model over the a?
+HURT 1 The buttons are more durable and it is 300 lumens rather than 200.
Daniel Morgen is the mounting system the same?
Great review of the Tactician I picked me one up, wish I could use it bezel down but not a deal breaker. I’ve been using a Keeppower 16650 in it, but I was curious and called Surefire and asked them could I use 2 RCR123’s in it, and the reply was ~yes~ you can without it harming the light. Is that a Garmin Fenix 3 HR watch that your wearing in this video? I have that watch is cool as all get out.
Is this light prone to failure if you over-lube it? ;-)
mdfg+ 😂😂😂 I see what you did there
It definitely wont last as long
Thanks for the review & info :)
👊🏾
I like the button to be recessed. Push momentarily on, click permanent on.
The first thing I thought when I saw this was I wish it had a different clip. With all the lights Surefire has though would you be able to steal a clip from a different light, or is the body design too different?
Edit: and I got to that explanation point in the video, thanks
You're welcome 👍🏽
Looks like a good light but too bad James Yeager said it can *only* be bezel up when he helped design it. I believe this light is also only non-rechargeable battery capable.
Which do you prefer backup 400 or tactician
Hi, is using an 16650 battery safe for this light long term?
Excelente herramienta gracias por compartir
Thoughts on the tactician for an Leo primary light?
good choice
I know this is random, but:
How many lumens does it take to overload a pair of night vision goggles?
Modern night vision auto shuts off
I think this flashlight pales in comparison to the olight M2T Tactical that I just received.
Nice light!
Ok. I want that shirt.
Why 5 lumens low and not the 15 lumens surefire used on the G2 maxvision? 15 is more usable...
not sure
How many yards have you been able to positively id things at with the tactician?
depends on conditions
Do I spot a Garmin Fenix 3 or 5 ? I love my F5....
5x
Mrgunsngear Channel I love my Garmin Fenix 5....I wear it to work, gym, running, outdoor camping, ect.
You should do a video on yours!!! Most of the reviews on the market are from either tech or running guys.
I can't buy it without the dogs' approval.
Indeed
What kind of watch is that?
hey mike what type of lube you recommend putting on threads?
Silicone grease
Just because it can be put on a weapon doesn't mean it should. Weapon lights are designed to withstand recoil and allow the battery/batteries to move freely without breaking the connection. Putting a light on a weapon when the light wasn't designed for it is risky and could break the light or weaken it causing problems down the road. Be careful.
your neighbors must hate you lol
Get a nebo torchy 1000 lumins on high 1/3 the size and only 31
I love the look and quality of Surefire lights but I just can’t justify buying one based on price and runtime. Having said that, I’m a bit of a Streamlight fanboy. High quality lights with great runtimes for EDC use and just the right amount of features.
How does this light compare to the elzetta bravo?
by the specs I suppose; I have a video on that light too
Which light would you rather have for EDC?
I bet the neighbors HATE your reviews…
Hahaha
That would be a good Leo light
James designed this so it gives enough light to run away from the fight.

I’ll take Jetbeam over Surefire any day. If you ask why, I can buy 3 Jetbeam lights for a price of 1 Surefire light. However, great video.
fair enough
The Olight H2R Pro Warrior is literally better in every way other than size. But this is still a nice light and I enjoyed the video.
.....but does it take Glock mags? Nice light.
Ha just the tip! Bezel up FTW!
whats with the "china export" nomenclature on the bezel? I thought these things were made in USA
?
Mrgunsngear Channel "CE" means china export
Mrgunsngear Channel i might be wrong siloscordoba.com/blog/corporate/china-export-is-not-ce-a-symbol-to-cause-confusion/
1k like! Whoo!
Hello, I am finding the US reviewers for small flashlight, grow light for indoor plants and
handheld loupe. Tell me if you are interested.
Never thought a flashlight review could sound so much like director commentary on a porn shoot

🔦☠💯💯💯💯
Takes two hands to go to constant on. That's a fail I think.
Terry Waters Not what it was designed for. This is strictly a fighting light. Not meant for admin purposes.
No 18650 No buy the light... it's really just that simple.
Sure fire rechargeable cr123
not for 155 lol
No 18650=fail
ok
you called the light a gun lol, but sweet light I want it.
I used to love James Yeager but he is the biggest sellout now. Streamlight protac 2lx all the way for edc
fair enough
You can buy flashlights with lower price tags, but when your life is on the line, do you want to take that chance? Surefire is built to last, and they're an American company that stands firm behind their products and their customers.
When my lifes on the line i think a gun with a light would be helpful. I dont think i am reaching for my flashlight
You CCW a pistol with a mounted light? Good on you brother, but a lot of us don't.
You see a threat, life on the line and you go for your flashlight? Then what? Drop it and go for your gun, to late your dead. Dont tell me you need to identify your threat.are you in the middle of the jungle?
Flashlight usually comes BEFORE seeing things in the dark.
still not getting it, why do you need the flashlight to save your life?
Olight or nothing
😂😂😂
Olight has a lot of lumens which is good for blinding people. Sure fire and streamlight have a lot of candela which is good for lighting things up far away. I can see things farther with my 800 lumen streamlight than I can with me 1,200 lumen olight because the streamlight has more candela
Olight is Chinese.
Meh. Yeager designed?... meh. 800 lumens for the price of TWO Fenix or Surefire or O-Light or Nitecore 1,000+ lumens lights?... meh. Purposely designed NOT to use rechargeable 18650 batteries?... stupid.
16650 works. i use the keeppower brand but the orbtronic 16650 works as well
You could also buy 15 Thorfire lights for the same price
Take a training class. It’s not always about the lumens when it comes to flashlights.
I understand. I've been taking tactical / low-light classes for years. But there's nothing magical about a 800 lumen light compared to other lights that have verified higher output at a lower cost. It's a light, not a lightsaber.
Why are rechargeables not suitable for SD? They run down, you put in fresh ones. CR123s run down, you put in fresh ones. What's the difference?
A James Yeager light?😂😂😂
Just give me a light with a goddamn on/off only tail switch. Only wannabe tactiturds like Yeager need a gazillion settings on their lights, ribbing for his pleasure, uncommon batteries and unnecessary bulk and doodads.
I wish Streamlight had a stylus pro that took AA batteries.
Mr_GiXxEr have you ever taken a class from tactical response?

You mean this?
ruclips.net/video/iss4xxLwqwc/видео.html
You train someone to fight in the mostly likely situation they're going to be in. That was the whole point of his actions. Hes even stated this. He makes people with prosthetics, wheel chairs, cain ect. fight with out them. Because that's the most likely situation they're going to be in. If you didn't understand that, now you do. Its not being an asshole or a bad instructor. Its being a realistic one.

So you totally missed the part where they let the guy wave the loaded gun around behind all the others and shoot with people downrange.
You act like they have total control over all his action. They're instructor not God. And why don't you take one of his classes before criticizing him. Costa, Vickers, SuperDave, John L, Travis Haley ect all respect his training and mindset so why don't you? Just hating is what it sounds like man.
