- The underarm bowling incident of 1981 took place on 1 February 1981, when Australia played New Zealand in a One Day International cricket match , on 17 February 2005, over 24 years after the original underarm delivery, Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath light-heartedly revisited the incident in the first ever Twenty20 international, played between Australia and New Zealand.

Why is it always New Zealand that gets crushed by "RULES"
Then watch Steve Waugh slow batting in 1999 worldcup which lead things difficult for newzealand
Nice guys finish last.
South africa gets crushed even worse by w

This is a bloody brilliant way to laugh at the past, to let bygones be bygones, Loved this video
Bowden kick is masterclass
McGrath bowling underarm was in good taste and humour as NZ required 45 runs off the last Bowl but the one bowled by Chappell was unsportsmanlike.
So was ball gouging and match fixing... 😊😊😊
Remember that the rule was corrected so McGrath's comedy ball was declared a dead ball and he still has to bowl a real ball to register as 19.6 and conclude the match.
That umpire is good comedian..
Making all in smile....great!!! classy Mcgrath
1981 incident as an aussie I didn't like the underarm rule in the first place but 2005 one was just funny 😂
"This is possibly a little bit disappointing" - probably not the best commentary quote ever.
That match they are showing clips of was the first ever T20 international game
Just Australia things
Umpire is very dramatic 😂
If the batter was Pollard !
Ricky Ponting would’ve eaten him all over
💀
Funnily enough it should have been a no ball due to one of the outfielders being in the wrong position (inside the inner ring when the bowl was balled) however the umpires didn’t see it and 3rd umpire wasn’t a thing then.
Also a fun fact is that overarm bowling began when a woman decided she’d bowl over arm in a exhibition match (there was no womens league or teams at that time) and the men thought it was a far better way to bowl and from then on overarm bowling became the norm
What is "Underarm bowling" ? I mean in which context was this allowed in cricket ? A kind of 'Super Over' like 'Bowled Out' or something ? Sorry I don't have knowledge of this.
It wasn’t in the rules that you could not underarm bowl. So then you could underarm bowl.
Once an Aussie bowler aginst NZ (Nz needed 6 runs in 1 ball ) bowled an underarm bowl it wasn't in the rules that time, aa very dissapointing end to a match
In early cricket (maybe around 17th century), underarm bowling was the norm. Overarm was a later style. The underarm was still technically legal at the time of the original incident.
@@AbhijithVMohan Well it was only allowed in the Australian rules. The UK had designed they're rules specifically so something like this wouldn't happen, but since the Australian regulations regarding the game were different, it didn't technically state that underarm bowling is prohibited. I'm pretty sure after the incident of the first clip it was added to the Australian rulebook
@@AbhijithVMohan it's still the norm in blind cricket.

When you play tenpin in cricket 😮
0:33 match over?? What?!
Yes its over
bowling underarm was legal then...Greg Chappell told his brother to bowl underarm when 6 was required from 1 ball
@@doctorjoy2688 it wasn't completely legal, it was just they did not put it in the tournament rules
@@topjii yes it was not in the rules so it was legal at that point of time....but Chapelle should not have done it...he took advantage of this loophole of rules and completely threw spirit of the game out of the window..
@@doctorjoy2688 Is it in the rules you can’t go around smashing players in the head with the bat?
I would have been not yet eleven and in my last year at junior school back then. Second time aged 34 (I am four months younger than Glenn McGrath!)
After worldcup 2023 😂😂
Earlier one was complete disgusting becoz 1 ball 6 runs can be hit on a valid delivery
But the needed 7 to Win?
My grandfather used to bowl underarm for me in our courtyard with a plastic ball 😊 that means its ok 😊
Yes the only thing that they are worried about is msnksfing

The bottom line is that N.Z. should’ve been given a chance.

Best cheating country in CRICKET ...Australia....
Actually the Trevor Chappell incident wasn't "cheating" as it was permitted in the rules. It was, however, poor sportsmanship.
As for "cheating", only Australia has ever imposed a year long ban for ball tampering, including a player who wasn't even involved. Match fixing is almost entirely a subcontinent thing, always "Indian bookmakers" are at the core of it.
And there you go. Starting fights between countries. Some of these cricket fans are really toxic. I don't know why these Australians and Indians want to celebrate a game that is played by a limited number of countries.

pretty pathetic from the ozzies in 1981, i was there. how nice for the ozzies to laugh at their own bad sportsmanship, and that is pathetic too.
What did the umpire shown to the bowler? anyone?
A red card. Indicates a send off in soccer.
@@rickydumas9994 What does it mean here? is this the proper way of showing gestures in this scenario? I have never seen something like this
@@aashiqsalam4683 Billy Bowden is a showman. He's making a joke by ostentatiously "sending McGrath off", as the bowler was referencing an infamous moment in NZ vs Australia cricket history when captain Greg Chappell ordered his younger brother Trevor to bowl the final ball underarm, rolling it along the ground to prevent New Zealand's Brian McKechnie from hitting it for 6 to tie the game. All in fun, of course. It's likely that McGrath and Bowden organised that prior to the game (as an umpire myself, I know that red cards are not something umpires generally carry).
Watch some soccer, referees do send players from the field for unduly rough play or repeated infringements/professional fouls.
@@rickydumas9994 I have seen it in soccer also I have read about the incident you are referring after watching this video .I meant that I never seen this in cricket,I mean his gestures
