What an absolutely arrogant and ignorant man, and so was Johnson . I am so happy to see Thomas Sowell, one of the great minds and be clear headed enough to appreciate him for being the leader he is. I believe he is who he says he is but the nasty, smarmy creep who worked with Johnson seems like a multi- layered deceiver - each layer more corrupt, and more of a lie than the first. Hard to watch for a patriot.

He is a scientist. He's been high and low, he is "black" in origin so he could sympathize with widest possible array of citizens, and HE SEEKS THE GOOD of people. Why don't you run him for president? @@MottiShneor he's discussed why he never ventured into public office numerous times. It's because government, by nature, is not data driven. It's about exacerbating problems further along to continual fund bureaucracy. Thomas Sowell, while earning his doctorate, was a devout communist. What finally changed his mind about communism is when he matriculated from theory to piratical applications while working at The Department of Labor. He did various research studies on labor dynamics, in Puerto Rico, that would have solved a plethora of problems and abated many of its complications. Ironically, when he published his research and presented to his colleagues, he was meet with opposition. Sowell's applications would have further diminished The Department of Labor importance in implementing social and economic policy. Ironically, it was government that taught him the insidious nature of government. Government doesn't want solutions... period.

@@MottiShneor People like Dr. Sowell and others who think like him, have realized one fact. You cannot have a clear conscience when you go into politics. If he was a politician, some people would accuse him of saying this stuff to gain power over people. So, if they remain outside of politics - there can be no accusation. Dr. Sowell doesn't say this stuff to gain power - his conscience is clear. In order to gain success in politics - you have to make promises, to gain the public favour over your oponents - it's very hard to gain popularity by saying "I won't do anything for you, but I also won't do anything against you" or "I will not give you benefits, but I also won't take anything from you" - with this way of thought, the public doesn't feel like there is a benefactor, who fights for their benefits - even though, not having your pockets robbed by taxes is a clear benefit. But if the other side says: I will take care of your kids for you, I will give you money if you fail, I will take care of your elderly for you - and I will take care of you when you are old or sick" - it's very hard to fight that with "I will let you make all the decisions and if you fail, you will suffer all the consequences of your actions" - imagine if you are a teenager and your dad says - don't worry, I got you covered, I'll pay for your college, your home, your expenses and after that you can come and live in my house, all you have to do is vote for me, and pay me some of your money - this sounds great. But what if your dad said, just after you finished high school - there is the door, go and work for your own success. Which dad would you pick?

The thing is, the interviewer touched on the problem in his question. It's the fact that we arbitrarily decided that everyone needed a degree for jobs that you absolutely teach people with HS diplomas to do.
Basically, the problem wasn't B. It was that you created A in the first place, which then gave birth to B.
It's kind of typical. With the Left, A is never the problem. In fact, they created A with the purest of intentions. And they'll certainly not take any blame for the fact that it caused B, C and D, which we also now have to deal with.

    • @chrisfleischman3371

Also consider; if you are giving out college degrees to people to learn to do things that people with High School diplomas can do, how bright can these individuals be? Aren’t you kinda taking advantage of these people by charging them to get a pretty valueless imprimaturs to get a job….

    • @AJHart-eg1ys
      @AJHart-eg1ys 10 месяцев назад

@@chrisfleischman3371 Intelligent or not, if the field they want to get into requires a college degree to apply, you're kind of stuck having to go to college. It's not so much the colleges' fault in this case.
I graduated from high school in 1988. I have a couple of aunts who are about a half generation older who just got jobs at utilities/co-ops out of high school, and were running them, making fairly "obscene" salaries for the area, by the time they hit 40. I figure I missed THAT kind of opportunity landscape by about 8 years.
But as for accountability, I think we sometimes also forget that a lot of us just grew up in the last few decades of the 20th century believing that college was the default next step, if you could swing it. None of my friends and I ever really thought of doing anything else after high school, save for joining the military. And most of those people did it so it would pay for college.

Lollll of course all the idiots got boners when he said that. Think a little deeper about what he’s really saying or better yet what he’s missing. It’s not about everyone getting ahead, it’s about everyone having an opportunity to get ahead. It’s about people not being left behind due to factors out of their control, like socioeconomics, race, etc. This is so fundamental, which is why Sowell is either pretending to be this ideologically opposed to economic justice or he is just dumb as a brick.

Sowell sold himself out to PASS in white conservative academia because they love tokens spouting their disproven economic and social theories.

The people who stand at least have a chance to see the game but those who remain seated have no chance of seeing anything. Following this analogy, the only way for everyone to see the game, standing or not, would be to spread the seating. How does this translate to real life? It means reducing the population. I'm not saying genocide or anything so extreme, but perhaps something like incentivizing a reduced birth rate. The higher the population, the lower the individual value. If, for example, I need landscaping done, if there's only one landscaper available, then I would be at their mercy. I would have to pay whatever they ask. However, if there's a hundred landscapers to choose from, then that leverage is gone and the job goes to the lowest bidder. The less people, the more value those people possess

God Bless Thomas Sowell. His wisdom, his insights, his endless pursuit of the fundamentals of the human condition, have never been more prescient and necessary. His works should be required reading in ALL schools. He does not indoctrinate; he does not teach what to think; he teaches each of us that we should think, how to do so, and why it’s essential to our own liberty that we do. This interview was conducted in 1995; who would have thought that it would take 25 years and a Chinese virus for people to see what their kids have been indoctrinated with during that time and likely longer……

I’m hesitant to immortalize anyone I admire, especially an intellectual economist, but Sowell comes across as one of the most undefeatable forces of facts that I’ve ever seen. He’s so incredibly armed with information, even when you think you’ve got him on something, he’s easily able to explain it away with the raw statistics as well as detailed statistics. He truly accounts for all the apples and all the oranges in his arguments. He should be mandatory viewing in education.

TS is right. We in Europe have tuition free universities. Now that almost everyone went / goes to university the employment line hasn’t changed. People with a university degree do the job that people used to do with a apprenticeship. Living standards haven’t gone up in about 25 years. Everyone knows but we like to live a societal lie. Thanks TS.

Couldn't agree more. We have done and are doing the same thing here in the US: local colleges and universities "make deals" with surrounding businesses for the most inane and unnecessary "certifications" costing students tens of thousands of dollars just to earn entry-level wages. And without the certifications, you are not employable. I know; I've taught at such places.

But the education levels in Europe, from young age to early adulthood, are much higher on average than in US. Literacy in US is shocking too. I think having a more educated society is a good thing. As Peterson says, the universities are our most cherished institutions, not because of the piece of paper you receive after, but the social and intellectual experiences they foster.
I'm not sure why you conflated living standards with university tuition. In the UK we have had conservative governance for 12+ years, including the raising of tuition fee. Our living standards began falling for the first time since victorian times around 3 years ago. Are the two related? I doubt it. But either way it's clear the outcome is more nuanced than your statement implies.

The great society programs that sounded so good at the beginning created a permanent underclass of professional recipients. what the interviewer does not comprehend is, we aren't listening to ( and loving) Thomas Sowell because he recommends we not listen to the elite, BUT we are listening to Thomas Sowell because he speaks what we already know and think. As he said 'We have been doing it for thousands of years, we do not need the academic elites to decide for us how to raise our own children or how to make decisions'. That's why TS is so enormously popular..
