Daniel, I'd like to personally thank you for your excellent reviews. Because of them, I've recently purchased the LG C1 48" OLED, and built a new system (for the first time in literal decades) based on the 7700X and the 6800 XT. The CPU was a particularly nice deal since Micro Center not only discounted them with AMD's lower MSRP announcement, but kept the deal where you received 32GB of DDR5 6000 RAM for free. Cannot be any happier with this setup, nor your great content.

It is insane what this card can do and I'm surprised you are the only one I could find that tests multiple levels of ray tracing and balancing settings for benchmarks. It shows that "ultra" everything is not the usual thing people should do. In contrary, some settings give marginal benefits for a lot of computing power cost (4k textures are a good example of hardly noticeable difference, even when pixel peeping)
Edit: it was only 500$ used, which is a damn steal for such a jewel. I'm super happy.

Some games, like Cyberpunk 2077 can benefit HEAPS by lowering effects like volumetric cloud / flog from ultra -> medium with no visual difference but large FPS gains. Benchmarks are obviously useful, but I would say most users should / do tweak their settings anyway. I agree, 6800 XT is a beast for 1440p, and you can gain 7 - 10 fps from a pretty safe OC too.

I must say keep your 2080 super for another generation. All of the deals of this generation are horrible. 4080 for $1200 that's ridiculous and that card isn't even a real 80 class card. Compare 3090 to 3080, there was not much difference but 4080 is a significantly cut down version of the 4090 so it kinda sucks. 4070 Ti for $800 now looks like a better deal so I'd keep that in mind. But we'll see with the reviews. And about AMD, they literally lied about the performance output of the 7000 series. I mean 30% uplift is nowhere near 70% they claimed. And that is bad. Unless the 7900XTX falls down to like 800 dollars and XT for 700, I'd skip both of them. 2080 super is a good card. With 7900xtx you can only get about 2x uplift in the real world and that card runs extremely hot, like 400 watts hot. So I don't think it's worth upgrading considering the extra bill overtime and heat that'll come out of the card.

I think the 4070 Ti is going to be notably slower than the 7900 XT, so $800 will be too high. I'm sure Nvidia will still put that MSRP on it though. That's just too much damn money for a high refresh 1440p/entry level 4k GPU. I think these insane GPU prices have the potential to kill desktop PC gaming. I've been doing it for 24 years, so I don't say that lightly.
I think the prices should be:

@@arenzricodexd4409 I think it will have the opposite effect. GPUs getting more expensive isn't making them last any longer before they can't keep up with new games. The people who are willing to spend $1000+ on the latest and greatest will keep doing that with each new generation. The people who can't afford that but still want good performance will still buy the midrange and lower tier GPUs, because that's what they can afford. The problem is that those GPUs will still become unable to keep up with new games after a couple years, so the upgrade cycle will remain about the same... Except the upgrades will get more expensive. That will push average gamers out of the desktop PC/discrete GPU market.

Having built PCs for the last 20 years, you start developing an inherent sense of when to buy, what generation to skip, what the real hidden value hardware is, etc. For 2022, it was the BF/CM weekend right after Thanksgiving when the prices for AMD dropped to historic lows. I don't care about Ray Tracing (now), but am pleasantly surprised the 6800XT can actually play certain games with RT enabled (at native 4K with no upscaling) at over 60fps. It depends entirely on the implementation of RT (shadows, global illumination, etc), but Nvidia likes to take the mindshare they are the only ones with decent RT performance when it's not entirely true.

When the first trustworthy Benchmarks came it was clear as day that none of the cards would beat the 6800XT price performance ratio. It was also getting clear quickly that the XTX sold out quickly and is hard to get at MSRP anyways. So with the 6800XT able to run everything I throw at it with ease it was really the most sensible way to go and I'm quite happy I could still catch one at that price.
Anyways, thanks for the video. I think the strongest message here is: just because the 7900s are new they aren't almighty and just because the RTX 4000s are priced so terribly doesn't mean the RX are "good" value. Hey Daniel; I’m in the market for a new GPU (i game on 1440 usually but also have a high performance 1080 monitor as well) with a $400-$600 budgets for the GPU and I already have my new CPU picked out pretty much and will cost about $189-$249 depending on which cpu variant I go with, I have a 5700xt right now. Been looking at 6800 and 6800xt, not really looking into the new gen. My PSU is a plat certified Corsair 750w. I know that is pushing it with the 6800xt but wouldn’t be with the 6800. So I rather get the 6800xt but I’d also rather not have to get a new PSU and have to rewire and cable manage everything in my rig lol. I run a 3900x with 3600mhz c16 g skillz ram. Going to upgrade cpu as well which won’t cause any additional power draw, maybe even less if I get a 5700x instead of the 5800x, I would actually drop wattage considering the 3900x already can draw up to 105w just like all the new Ryzen 7s (besides the 5700x 65w). Sooo what should I do? 6800 or 6800xt with an undervolt. I’d imagine I’d still only be using 50-60% of the PSU which is ideal. If I’ll be bottled necked by my PSU I’ll prob just go with the 6800 non xt and overclock it, just will be missing some compute units. I need an opinion here brother. For 1440p gaming 6800 or 6800xt reminder I am working with a 750w plat psu which is the lowest requirement for the 6800xt. So maybe 6800xt with a slight undervolt? I’m trying to avoid having to upgrade my psu but still get better performance. Lol

A good 750PSU is more then enough for an 6800XT. Even a good 650PSU should be able to manage an 6800XT without any problem assuming your not overclocking and using 10 HD's. If a PSU can handle the 6800XT depends if the PSU can handle the spikes. Older psu have problems handling the spikes because the spikes can triggers the OCP. Corsair is a good brand although they also have more budget models like the CS series. any RM or RMx model 650w or higher should be ok.

I upgraded to a 6800XT in august 2021, and can run almost everything in 1440P max settings in 144fps with no FSR on. I'm hoping to get at least 5.5 years out of this gpu as well. Unless the industry throws some weird curve balls out and games start running more demanding than I feel this is a easily approachable metric.

Seeing your benchmarks has got me leaning more towards the 7900 XT, I'm not a fan of AI generated frames being used to artificially inflate FPS, if it increases input latency, is it really an FPS increase?

Cyberpunk 2077 all on ultra with RT psycho 3440x1440 raw fps 30-40 (My CPU is a bit bottlneck 5 5600x) when I turn on FG i get boost to like 60-75fps, when I enable DLSS2 Quality I get like 80-110fps.

Just got my 7900 XT, right below MSRP. $879 XFX Speedster black model
The huge price-increase-to-low-performace gain was not worth it IMO for the XTX model.
This completes my gaming build, specifically for MSFS 2020 (flight sim). This is my first personal Windows-based machine in 20 years. Hence, I DO NOT have an AIB. For me, paying $879 was something I really did not have a choice on. Whether it is bad value or not, I required the graphics power for MSFS as the previous generation AIBs were having such a hard time running it at higher settings, this included Nvidia's 3090.
I will also disclose that I will not be using this for productivity, i.e. photo and video editing, I have been using, and will continue to use Mac for that.
If I didn't need the extra power for MSFS, I would actually buy a 6950 XT. A XFX Speedster version is $730.

Just a heads up to the viewers the numbers don't scale linearly. So if it's 100%(68XT), 130%(79XT), and 150%(79XTX) that's not to say the 79XTX is 20% better than the 79XT. Look at 1:15 for example. If you divide the bigger FPS by the smaller you get the percentage. So looking at the averages; 68/45 = 51.1% but 68/60 = 13.3%. So the 79XTX is actually only 13.3% better than the 79XT. Not 20% as you may initially think looking at the given percentages. Current prices show the 79XT at 900 and the 79XTX at 1200. 33% more cost for 13% more performance...
This is just me justifying my recent 79XT purchase. =)

If you’re ok with the perf you’re getting from the 6800 xt it’s much better value. The thing is that it’s not gonna push 60fps on 4k max settings in future games(most current games it can). If you’re looking for better perf than that then you’re out of luck because the 7000 series and rtx 4000 offer poor value. So if you want such a high perf card I’d rather wait a bit until their insane price goes down.

3060 ti would be excellent at 1080p or 1440p. Nvidia typically does well with just about everything and AMD can have troubles with some older titles.
However there are people that say they run 4k skyrim with tons of mods and 4k textures at a solid 60 fps with zero issues...so maybe it also has to do with how willing you are to tune your GPU and make sure your temperatures are as good as can be so-long as you set a good fan curve, undervolting and general air flow in the case.
If you see yourself not wanting to mess with settings at all...just get a 3060ti or 3070 and be done with it.
If you're willing to take a risk and possibly go through a little back and forth at worst...find a reputable seller of a 3080 on ebay and get it for 450-550 or so (make sure it's in working order)
If you're willing to tinker around a good bit until you finally find the sweet spot for your setup...get a 6800 xt new!
