Mainstream never accepted 16HP due to DEE's Christianity-based lyrics, and Contemporary Christian music never accepted him because they didn't like their music and/or profanity. I'm agnostic. I freaking love 16HP, have since I first heard them. I applaud DEE for sticking with his vision and his integrity, even if I don't agree with his religious beliefs. Always a fan!
I've been listening to them for 30 years, and I have been atheist all of my life (almost 54 years), because their music is complex and compelling. The fact that David Eugene Edwards is such a "fire and brimstone ' Christian is, to me, a fascinating amusement. He clearly says what he wants without appearing to judge those of us who don't agree with with him whatsoever.
I think most Church going Christian folk aren't aware that not all Christian musicians only play worship music. I like all kinds of music. But seem to really enjoy secular music made by Christians.
