DIY Rock Sliders for a WJ

- We introduce to you one of our crew members Killian who will be running the video today. So, today we tackle a different jeep than your used too. This is a Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ which will cover 1999-2004. Killian did some DIY rock sliders to cover the rocker panels from getting damage which are weak in all unibody jeeps. These could be made very similar for any XJ or other Grand Cherokee's. This will not be a complete DIY on how to make rock sliders but if you have any questions feel free to leave us a comment and we can help answer any questions. Thanks so much for watching and I hope you enjoy something a little different. Let us know if you would like to see more of the crew builds. See you out on the trail.

That came out really nice . My rockers are rusted away ( upstate ny) so I'm replacing them with sliders .
Much appreciated. This should definitely help your Jeep. We appreciate you watching.
I like your idea. It gives it more clearance as to just welding on a bolt on. Your idea looks to give WJ owners 2-3" in more clearance. I ight just do something similar to mine.
It definitely adds clearance and because I used a 2”x8” tubing it sticks out far enough to help keep boulders from hitting the doors but if you wanted a more subtle lip you could use a 2”x6”. But it does also give you something to stand on as well if you’re using the wider tube.
That design is awesome.
Thank you 😊 he did a great job on them.
I have mine cut out that way for the past 2 years and that was the idea and just have not done it but this hyped me up to get it done!!!
Sweet, get on it. We will have lots more WJ content coming up later this year. Big changes coming to his rig.
Very cool. Good video. I do have a plasma cutter if you guys need for next time.
Awesome design. I liked and subbed. If you never seen the paint " steel it" you should check it out. You can paint whatever you want and install it and also weld to the paint. You don't need to worry about the painting at the end like you did and the whole slider can be covered before installing. Great video 🤙
Thank you @ChicagoRc. It actually came out better than I expected. And it wasn’t too expensive. We really appreciate the like and sub. Let us know what else you would like to see on the channel! We’re always looking for fresh ideas and like to keep our viewers happy!
We appreciate the support and kind words. Steel it is a great product for sure. Great recommendation.
So what solution did y'all use for that taper? Thanks for this video. Didn't really want to pay someone $500+ for something i could do myself. I knew about the ZJ mid, and figured there HAD to be something similar i could do to the WJ.
It ended up being a nonissue. It you follow that line straight back with the tape and keep the gap two inches from top to bottom the 2”x8”x0.188” tubing closes the gap between the body. The 3/16” (.188”) wall tubing it is sturdy enough to keep from flexing. Even under direct contact and hard hits. As long as you don’t use anything below 3/16” wall you should be good. If you decide to use 1/8” wall tubing I would slide a piece of 1”x1”x0.095” wall tubing in above the slider and weld it to the body. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions. We’re happy to help.
That thing looks just like my WJ
That’s awesome. We just did a diy 4 link rear In it. More content coming to the channel
Nice
Much Appreciated. They work well.
Do you have any more details on how you tackled the curves in the body.
We will be doing an update video soon. Not necessarily a how too but what we did. We cut fenders and built diy rear arms to fit 37’s😉😂. Lots more coming soon
Sorry it took so long to respond 😬 Cutting along the body line that I chose actually worked out perfectly. It leaves the gap perfectly to slide the 2” x 8” tube in tight. The curves in the body are now just hollow space but is completely sealed after welding. I am going to add a few stiffeners behind the slider in another video coming soon. Be sure to check it out. Let me know if you have any other questions.
What’s your lift/tire size? Did you have to trim any sheet metal?
@Graystone 304 It’s a 4” Rough Country spring, 2” Rough Country spacers, Core4x4 control arms, Adams Driveshaft front shaft and ECCPP 2” Wheel Spacers. Fits a 32” Falken Wildpeak M/T without trimming. You will need to relocate the windshield washer fluid reservoir. (ZJ swap)
@@killianjoseph3742 how do we ask for this and where do we get it done 😂
@@dayblue_ Grab a cutoff wheel and find a buddy with a welder that you trust. Other than that, you just need to buy the tubing. It’s 2.000” x 8.000” 0.188”wall A500b tubing. It’s not super expensive. Whole thing cost me about $150. Go get em’!!!
By any chance you have info to place you got material from I’m from Phoenix and I’ll to do the same like you thank you.
Взял отрезал живые пороги,жируют янки,Приехал бы мои посмотрел
To be fair, this is not a new vehicle. The modifications were not difficult and the results were worth the work and came out looking great in my opinion. If the threshold on you vehicle is in poor condition this would be a great solution.
Jesus no wonder they rust out so bad!!!
Yeah, it’s kind of like they didn’t expect them to last this long ha ha.
@@AZWESTSIDEWHEELERS the 4.0 is like the cummins for a jeep they just keep on goin while the rest of the rig falls apart lol
