But for the first season, it was required that everyone wait until the winner's album is released. Kelly put out "Thankful" in April, and Justin's came out in June.

Justin IMHO was the best and most unique one the show ever had. He suffered from being part of the 1st season when the big voice "Diva" thing was still big then. Kelly was great but very unoriginal. Plus, in season 1, they didn't push runner ups or even lower finalists, as they did in following seasons.
I think he peaked during that last acapella of get here, then all of the other performances, although good, couldnt touch that one. Best ending ever, had everyone captivated especially during this time (2:34) thru (2:46). gave paula chills, even brought out the ___ in simon. craziness!
